Ricky, there is faster way to select the whole sample. In the audio editor's edit mode, switch to trim mode and then press trim mode again. When you return to edit mode the whole sample is selected. Great video as always :)

So I finally picked up an OT and was following along with this video to learn the process and it seems that the clipping occurs when you add the spring reverb. It doesn't have an input gain so lowering the amp volume helped .

21:33 Hey Ricky love the video. One thing you may be hearing is the Compressor clipping internally. I’ve found that many of the OT FX are not true bypass and also the Compressor is especially guilty of internal clipping if you use nearly any amount of makeup gain. It seems to have VERY low headroom. The MAIN LVL on the other hand is great. You can be very liberal with it, even using normalized oneshots, and be OK. I always opt to raise the MAIN LVL rather than using a Master Track & Compressor Makeup Gain when I just need extra signal.

Awesome timing for me on this vid, I have been sampling on my Octa for the past few days. One thing I do once I get something going on it is just track in right away to Ableton while playing the scenes.. I typically do 64 bar takes and just jam out on the crossfade. Some ideas don't work once I am all done, so I just delete those but what I then do is scan through my takes with the Ableton looper set to 1 bar or maybe 4 and chop out the best parts and then re-sequence. Some OT takes I just keep as is..Whatever works. Anyway, awesome video, I love the Octatrack!

You can turn quantize on in settings, so when you bang in yer trigs you’ll be on grid. You don’t need to do the copy paste biz you were doing to get back on grid. Unless you’d rather have a little slop, leave quantize off. Nice beat 👍🏿 ….ya this is a sick groove

offtopic question: today i wanted to use my less than 1 year old Digitakt and noticed some of the buttons feeling sticky. no dirt or gunk on them - just feeling sticky and leaving a slight residue on my fingers when i touch them i googled and it seems to be a known issue with Elektron gear but i haven't found a solution for it has anybody had the same issue before?
@scarletfragment992 жыл бұрын
Less then a year? Something is wrong, if you said 7 years ok, are you using some sort of cleaner on it that is harsh, or sitting it in direct sunlight? That rubberized coating can get sticky, but it should take alot longer then that, dont use harsh cleaners on it, i seen certain chemicals melt the rubberized stuff on contact... If its coming off on your finger that means its getting bad, and it should last a good bit longer, the only thing i know to do though when it does start, is to litteraly either replace them with new ones, or simply totally remove it with a desolving chemical, and put them back on after, there is no way to like harden it back up..... I think it should be in warranty though if its less then a year, contact Elektron and see, they will probably help you somehow... That does suck man, i mean it is expected after a long time that you will have to do something, but thats the fastest i ever heard it happening, besides like i said, spilling chemicals that dissolve it on the unit...

RE the gain staging thing - you recorded super low and then normalized it - maybe it was the normalization process that just brought it up too high and any kind of boost just pushes it over the edge? I didn't think you clipped the input.

Dope video as usual!!!! I was just watching a recent video from messy desk and he highly advises NOT to normalize on the OT, but now you are normalizing a sample in this video... Im kinda confused 🤔 Anyway, thanks for the knowledge 💕
@RickyTinez2 жыл бұрын
hmmm i wonder why, did he mention reasoning?
@gabrieldelamora37012 жыл бұрын
@@RickyTinez he mentioned that the OT, when normalizing in the audio editor, it just boosts the signal by 12+db automatically, and that can lead to unwanted results. He mentions that the OT has up to 3 different ways to boost the volume (amp vol., Filter distortion etc) I've just started normalizing just recently before watching messy's video and I didn't have any issues🤔 Idk, just wanted to share, I'm sure there's no wrong way to eat a Reese's
@chateaudisco14362 жыл бұрын
Werd, if you got your levels sweet at 127 on the in, you’ll have it with the right headroom, OT normalize is, in my experience a false economy. ESPECIALLY if you are using track 8 as a master with even a hint of compression (edit / conte t: this^when live sampling and needing to gain stage inputs balanced with what the onboard dfx is doing.)

Is it still art to sample when you can use services like Tracklib or VSTs to break down the original songs into their component parts and you can have each isolated track (e.g. drums) at your disposal? I do not think so. It is art to spend hours looking for free sounds, drums, vocals, to re-pitch, time-stretch, arrange, to morph unrecognizable etc. Greetings from Germany
@KitKalvert2 жыл бұрын
In a world were artists are getting payed 0.0000x pence per stream and living in poverty i see a rising culture of artsits just "stealing" the samples and using without permission. Say what you like. Full labels are doing and welcoming this and by the time and IF the greedy key holders catch up its too late, the track has had its time and made its penny's for the struggling artists... what no FBI
