thank you for being a different reactor Rory. Not doing only mainstream stuff. That's the only way you stumble upon Frank Marino and Mahogany rush. He's criminally underrated, but the man knows how to play. He's worth looking in to, I've been fortunate to see him and listened to him for decades now. Peace brother!!!

Dude. Your reaction made me laugh and smile. Frank is a fantastic musician. This was his last show due to shoulder and medical problems. This dvd is 6 hours long. And it’s a fantastic fanfare to his incredible career.

Congrats on watching Frank Marino. Too few people (their loss) know about this supremely gifted guitarist. The whole of the Agora DVD (6 hours) is mind blowing in its musicianship. I just feel lucky and priveliged to have seen him live twice in the UK.

So glad you reacted to Frank Marino! Check out Ain't Dead Yet. Also, you must check out the 14 minute version of American Woman live from Winnipeg 2004. It is a banger!! Another song by Randy Bachman from The Guess Who and later BTO where Neil Young joins him is called Prairie Town. There is a line in the song that goes Portage and Main, 50 below you stay inside and rock and roll. Yep. LOL Also, I think you would love Dinner with Rush. It is a "business" meeting the guys had where the jokes and the wine is flowing. I totally love your reactions. Cheers 🇨🇦 ❄️🌨

I seriously can die a happy viewer of your channel now. As you are a guitar enthusiast like me and how you have put me onto the likes of Rory Gallagher and made me really listen to his playing I have in turn been trying to do the same for you. Frank Marino is one of the few guitarists I feel is even more underrated than Alex Lifeson. I appreciate you diving into AIC, and all the Soundgarden/Cornell content along with Rush and CCR, all of which I have aggressively pushed for in your comments. I know how much you have on your plate so I loathe to pile onto your considerable viewing schedule even more than I have been doing. So when I find you reacting to Frank finally I really am beyond ecstatic. Funny that you mention Zappa as Frank Marino was rocking that look back in the day which you’ll see when/if you continue down this rabbit hole. As for SRV style guitarists check out Jeff Healey, another Canadian and you can’t help but make the comparison. Ahh, sorry couldn’t help but try to add to your busy schedule again.😅

Frank marino, the most underatted guitarist on the planet. Brilliant Psychedelic/Jazz/Blues guitar Icon. He also is a great vocalist, which does not get mentioned. Largely unknown by the masses, but highly rated by the guitar greats. Also, builds his own amps and pedals. One of the greatest for sure.

Back in 1975 Frank and other bands were playing at Sherwood forest in Davison Michigan. There was a hall there and it was just a hangout for bands and parties. It was private property so cops never bothered us. It was a well known place that bands played at back then. Frank was just hanging around and we went outside and smoked a fat one. I think there were six of us hitting that and I had no idea who he was. Then he went on stage and smoked the whole place! Ted Nugent was playing as well as Bob Seger. None of them were famous at the time just bands jamming out at a small hall. I had so much fun back then. I was just 19 at the time. I met them all and thought nothing of it. Looking back I was lucky to be there because they all went on to be successful on the music scene. Michigan had the goods as far as music was concerned. At the hall they had whisky soaked watermelon on every table as well as three joints. We got wasted and had the time of our lives. I was just a novice on guitar then but now I can rip some serious ass! I look back and think, If I had only known they would be rock stars I would have gotten autographs!

From what I gather, he's got a couple of radio hits (from back in the late 70's and 80's) otherwise you would have had to see him play to know of him,.. was still touring until a couple of years ago.

Frank is the only person on Earth who sings his guitar notes as he plays them. That is very hard to do. It comes easy for him for some reason. He even sings the bends in notes as he plays. That is even harder to do! It is weird. He was linked mind to guitar like nobody in history. He literally was the guitar and the person at the same time. Nobody now or then was like that. He synced his brain with what he was playing. That is not normal! Even Hendrix didn`t do that. Frank is a legend and deserves to be remembered as such! A great vocalist and guitar player like no other!

I rank Zappa as the most underrated ever. Frank's brand of music is excellent, as is his sound. IMO, he's right next to SRV. Dude was like 60 when he did this.

Saw Frank and MR multiple times back in the day. If you want to delve a little deeper, I’m a King Bee, Johnny B. Goode and maybe Electric Reflections of War (Hendrix cover). He does so many great tunes on the Agora Theatre DVD.

Frank was the guitar. The guitar was Frank. That is the secret to his style. He felt what he played like an orgasm expressed in notes. A high that was translated to music. It is like a link. An impossible link between person and instrument. Far more than most great guitar players. He literally was what he was playing. The only one of his kind.

when frank marino started he was influenced by the doors, the allman brothers band, johnny winter, quicksilver messanger service, the beatles and of course jimi hendrix. along the way he obviously heard everyone of the big guitar names in rock, fusion and metal and he is a big tony bennet fan. he is from canada, but his roots are from sicily, from his father and lebanon, from his mother. if you really want to dig deeper into his music, try hearing music from the south mediterranean, like italian, greek and arabic music and you will see that the mahogany rush recipe is a mix of psychedelic blues, hard rock and modal jazz, played over rhythms from these countries. this is the reason you find his music somewhat strange. he is secretly a swing drummer and he loves buddy rich. he also is a fan of stevie wonder and billy joel. his melodies are also eastern influenced. he plays linearly over pedal tones. his favorite scales are blues pentatonics and dorian but he uses some jazz phrases and some arpeggios frequently. he is really THE FIRST real shredder in rock but this ended decades ago. he is more of a melodic player in recent years with only glimpses of his wild youth shredding solos. his sound is different from all others. he plays with ultra light strings with an unwound 4th string!(8p 9p 12p 15p 26w 38w) and laquered fretboards on his vintage gibson sg guitars and his fx and amps are a thing to study. he doesnt use a noise gate and he seems to have plenty of gain without hiss because he is very knowledgeable about electronics. but the thing that distinguishes him is that he is sincere. you wont find anyone in the music business like him, because he doesnt belong to this business. he is a musician. not a professional. this is the secret of his music. he doesnt give a damn about music business and it shows in everything he does and this is the real reason that people love him and the music business people hate him. now go and give a listen to all of his albums, you wont be dissapointed.

wow i was suprised that you said he is nearest to Zappa, i think you're spot on, i listened to so many stuff from Frank Marino and also came to that conclusion, when you listen to the very early work he is very inspired by Hendrix and in a later stage there is also some Ted Nugent similarities or Ted is a Frank rip off
