I saw Frank Marino way back in 79 and he gets the "Hendrix clone" tag simply because they both play "psychedelic" guitar/music. But that's the end of the comparison, Frank's his own player and has his own sound.

This is my favorite of Frank's later works. Mahogany Rush IV being my fav of his very early works. The tune " He's calling" on Eye of the storm is just a mind numbing and mesmerizing tune that will put you in another place. Frank is just simply one of the very greatest guitarists that has ever walked this earth and also one of the most humble. Humble, now that is something you very seldom see in the rock world. Cheers.

After Hendrix passed, there were a lot of people looking for the 'next' Hendrix. Robin Trower and Arthur Lee also got the 'Hendrix' tags, as well. Also, Frank Marino played 'Voodoo Child' and put Strat pickups on his SG, including a bridge pickup that was mounted in an opposite hand configuration, just like the pickup on Hendrix' righty played lefty. SRV also got a bit of the Hendrix tag, as well, for the E flat tuning, as well as having played 'Voodoo Child'. Basically, it's just a generalization for the ignorant.
@robsylvia65466 жыл бұрын
Frank covered Jimi back in the day, even some of his vocal nuances were Hendrixy. That said, everyone was inspired by Jimi to some degree back. EC switched from SG to a Strat because of Jimi. But Frank is Frank. I bought Eye of The Storm the day it was released and it’s in my top 50 favorite albums, still in rotation at home. Great album.

At the very least, the Hendrix influences were STRONGLY there... whether Frank meant them to be or not. If you cannot hear that, you should go back and listen to Jimi a little more... or Frank a little more... or both! :-P Frank reminded me of a combination of the Electric Ladyland Hendrix and all of his other heavier, more technical and produced albums/material. Oh Jimi is there, no doubt about that. And I'm sure Frank wouldn't even try to deny Jimi's influence on his playing. And why should he... nothing at all wrong with that.

"He's calling" sounds so amazing, God I love Frank ! I'm actually writing some music that reminds me a lot of that song and it's kinda a tribute to Frank, he's such a mind blowing guitarist and probably because he's so genuine and true to himself on top of being such a great human being, a combination like that just has to produce something wonderful and Frank has alway been nothing but that, the passion and fury of his playing will be an inspiration to me as long as I am able to play a guitar, hear music and appreciate someone as real and passionate and true to what they love as Frank Marino!!! Rock on my friend, "don't ever stop"✌🏼️

Will someone please explain how Frank manages to keep his SG's in tune with a wammy bar fitted, especially with the amount of abuse he gives it. Been a lifelong lover and user of SG's but never figured out how to keep one remotely in tune with a whammy bar. First saw Frank in 77 or 78 in leeds England, blown away by his sound almost as much as his technique. Awesome! Frank is a massively underrated as a guitar player, could stand shoulder to shoulder with any of the greats !!

Frank is an enigma in the history of rock and roll. Once the internet came out guitarists had 10 times the weapons to learn and execute. But the greatest stuff is applied thru trial and error. Back then in order to be great you had to plug into something. And Frank way out in Montreal? C'mon, he was in his own world. There will never be another like him. Glad to have seen him 6 times.

I feel lucky to have grown up in San Antonio Texas where Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush were HUGE and were played early on with KISS/KMAC radio and dj's Joe Anthony and Lou Roney. Those dj's really played the hell out of Frank back in the late 70's. I would bet that Frank had more fans here in San Antonio than any other city in America at that time. We were the rock n roll capital of the world and we can thank the old KISS fm of the late 70s and "the godfather Joe Anthony" for promoting great unknown bands(Frank Marino, AC/DC, Judas Priest, Rush, Riot, and, Moxy, just to name a few). I look forward to seeing Frank here in San Antonio once again on May 2, 2020 at The Sunken Gardens Amphitheater! Welcome home Frank!

The classic (black) "Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush Live" album from the 70's... just pure heart and soul... just pure INTENSE! His tone... yes, the heavily effected tone was other worldly... and his blues tone on that classic Live album on pieces like the "King Bee" medley, etc. used to give me chills as a guitarist. His tone had that perfect amount of OD/Distortion, yet with a second layer of bluesy clean that was blues yet balls at the same time. God I loved Marino's blues tone on those songs. Rich, vibrant, warm... yet clear, cutting, sustained and soulful. Lol... I was a young kid then with "stars" in my eyes and heart, and I played in a pseudo garage band with another guitarist. We used to argue over whether Frank used the middle position toggle or his neck pickup for the King Bee medley... it was hilarious thinking back. Man the arguments he and I used to have about how Frank got his tone... all in good fun, of course. The almost haunting "Live" album version of "Dragonfly" (my all-time favorite), and the knock-you-out intense Talkin' Bout a Feelin' always took me right off of this earth. Frank Marino... you were and apparently still are a master in your own right, who never received near the proper credit or recognition for your talent and your innovation. But you were one b@d@$$ rock and blues guitarist, my friend... and you taught me more about heart, soul and feel as a rock/blues guitarist than I can even begin to explain or thank you for. You gave me a great music education... and I will always be indebted to you for that. I will always treasure and get chills over those years... for everything, but especially that butt-kickin' classic Live album. Frank Marino... thank you from the bottom of my heart! Intense, buddy... just PURE INTENSE!!!

Interesting!!!!!lovely guy...only the other day someone mentioned Frank Marino. This nudged my dodgy memory...I saw Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush in 1977 somewhere in the UK and had the World Anthem album. The blurb on the program talks of a period of recovery for a then young Frank and that album to me, he seemed to be exploring the electric guitar and its sound possibilities as a seriously new creative instrument, although, I have not heard anything else by the band until now. It strikes me that the guitar is being played at a virtuoso level now days as a priority because of recording being so simple and real guitars not so popular in songwriting from a "making a living point of view, huh I dont know anyways good to see again.

Am I the only one that sees the connection between that song and that particular day and what happened ... I have a lot of more insight stories of my experience with this band's music music
