My big issue with Frank is that he CLEARLY doesn’t want to perform, so he needs to stop booking shows! Especially HUGE festivals like Coachella. He has a history of cancelling shows. If you don’t want to perform, don’t! He was also the only headliner without merch at the festival. Like he literally is like “here fans, here is NOTHING!” That is what makes him an asshole to me.

Idk the thing about that is that it’s always up to the fans, the fans love his music so much that festivals will still give him Superstar Status & idk what his solo tour (if) will look like but I wouldn’t be surprised if he can pack out arenas still. The relationship between frank and his fans is one sided. There is nothing wrong with that. We are his fans for a reason. As an artist he is in charge and sets his own pace because he is his own person. The relationship with his music is the most intimate thing and we have access to musical form of his experience. When we listen to it, we may feel we know him as a person yet he doesn’t know you or me intimately. We are just strangers who enjoy his work. He doesn’t owe us his labor. We don’t owe him attention and praise, it’s all freely given. He doesn’t do it for the fame, he does it for the art. He’s simple and I personally submit to the pace he sets and enjoy anything he can give us.

The fact is, hip hop and r&b concert going of today has encouraged a culture where artist don't give much by way of performances. Bunch of people on stage shouting into a mic over the full record.... Stopping every 30 seconds.... Literally making the crowd perform ... Then walk off stage and take the money..... I can't remember the last time I've seen Drake actually DO a show... It’s an amazing experimental album, sounds like nothing else you’ve ever heard, has some of the best songs of the last decade in Nights, White Ferrari, and Self Control, has some songs delving into really deep existential questions like Siegfried, has great Summer hits like Pink + White, great writing throughout, is a reflection of a failed relationship Frank had without a messy breakup with him still loving the partner he separated from with a great beginning and ending with Ivy where he wishes he was still in the relationship and Godspeed where he finally let’s go with parts of the album where he moves back to times when he was younger at the start of that romance on Self Control for example. The only critiques I’d have of it is the voice notes don’t add much tbh
