I haven't gotten to specific philosophers yet but I shall. And yes Schopenhauer, Sartre, and Nietzsche really shaped my thinking.

Yes I'd also be interested in hearing about the philosophers that influence you.

Hellz to the yeah Frankie... I love trying to wrap my mind around your way of thinking. So many people are stuck in the same mind set for life and never care to look at the world through a different light, so to speak. Too many people are content and lack a thirst for knowledge. Way too boring for me... Curiosity is a beautiful thing.

Spelling is not my strong suit, and I actually am going to make a video about how a lot of non-linear and visual thinkers can't spell at all. Not to put myself in the category of Einstein and Da Vinci but their notebooks were full of misspells.

agreed. Language is a sort of an alien force that we are "thrown" into...a matrix that dictates order through grammar/spelling. It's like we are looked down upon in society and placed in the lower orders if we can't spell or use the correct grammar. Nietzsche even said that language makes us herds, and that to full express oneself authentically one should use other mediums.

Most still are. It's why I didn't immediately latch onto psychology. That was compounded by my realization that conditioning/behaviorism was something my entire childhood flies in the face of.
@frankyang11 жыл бұрын
yes 100 percent. i got interested in philosophy because of the Greek and Roman stuff. Intro to Greek philosophy was the first (and one of only) philosophy class I took - we covered Republic and Symposium and Seneca. It's good foundation...kind of like needing to build up the squat before you can translate that strength to the vertical jump/

I have never came across someone so much like myself, frank thinks he isn't good at explaining things and I think I'm good at understanding him because I myself am not good at explaining things, like it all makes sense in the head but hard to explain to other people, he puts everything in a simple concept, I never knew I would come across a bodybuilder who has so much knowledge for stuff outside of bodybuilding and isn't another stupid jeff seid, frank is so intelligent. keep up the good work.

Hey Frank! Great video, I'll definitely check out a couple of those books. Have you heard of the book Influence, by Robert Cialdini? I'm sure you already know the concepts of the book, but it is about the power of persuasion and its 7 principles, and the psychology behind it. It also talks about Jim Jones (Jonestown incident) and how he had the "power" to gather so many followers and have them do what he wanted.

Wow, frank this video is finally out :) I've read quite some philosophies. I really think that your way of thinking is really unique. I believe that you are going to create some timeless works. I am waiting for that day, I am excited about it. It may take 30, 40, or maybe 50 years. I am going to wait for the time that Frank Yang change the world. I am going to subscribe and follow all the video, essays, your works, always even 50 years later.

Andy Warhol was the master at making boring things interesting. He even said, "I like boring things". He liked to make art (or just look at) really boring things and could be entertained by anything. His imagination was so big that he could make the most mundane things interesting not just to himself, but others as well.
@frankyang11 жыл бұрын
yes I read them. Zizek is hard but the intro to Lacan was ok. And I enjoyed the documentary.

Tezz? Randomly saw your comment. The point is, he reads all these books to gain a better knowledge of the processes and inner workings of the brain. If you enjoy doing this, how is it any different from 'living life'. While I'm on that subject, what is 'living life'? Are you trying to say that 'living life' is not reading all these things, but instead what, doing something else with your time? This is no different from those things. Would you rather your brain a maze or a boring open field?
@frankyang11 жыл бұрын
elaborate. There's only so much one can explain about the mind through genetics. Evolutionary psychology is great but not without limits and been overly reductive. I try to understand the mind in 2 ways - from top to bottom and from bottom to top.

From what you like on the video you may also like 'Daniel Kahneman - Thinking, Fast and Slow' ... Steven Pinker is a big fan of his. This is what he had to say about him and his work. "Daniel Kahneman is among the most influential psychologists in history and certainly the most important psychologist alive today"

yap there's a thought inside a thought inside a thought. And everytime you validate your thought you go deeper into that particular thought itself because you are using that thought to confirm itself through itself with itself.

Hey Frank, thanks for the recommendations. You should check out Carlos Castaneda, my favorite of his books is Journey to Ixtlan, though they are all good. The teachings of Don Juan is the first, so maybe start there. Also, Siddhartha by Herman Hesse. Both of these shaped the way I see the world, and I would recommend to anyone

Well i guess they would be more relevant to lawyers and left brain thinkers.I tried to be pretty logical and rational at one point of my life when I was reading a lot about the Enlightenment philosophy too but the nature of my brain just won't completely accept these models.I guess it's why I've always been more interested in the arts.Actually new neuroscience studies threw a lot of those old schooled rationality out of the window.The brain just isn't as linear as previously thought.

I am also artistically inclined and have dealt with irrational thoughts due to mental illness, but I also see great value in our ability to alter our thoughts and values based on rational realizations. I think this conflict may be especially prevalent in me because I have passions for both the scientific/practical and the artistic/philosophical. Thanks for your response, by the way. Can you direct me to the neuroscience studies you're referring to? I'd love to read them.

any body intereseted in psychology should be intimately aware of freud. The man never proposed to be the father of modern psychology (even though he is touted as such), but rather was interested in specific sexual neuroses which he was dealing with as a part of his profession. His case studies are extraordinarily invaluable to anyone of any era.

The problem with the whole argument thing that you are talking about is that we only have acces to the empirical world and only because something can not be verified by science doesn't mean it's false.Science studies patterns ( which can not be verified in most of the cases ) and define the world in terms that can't be defined. That's why Schopenhauer and Kant are so great. Science is all about senses.
@BluEN11119 жыл бұрын
***** to turn your back to ideeas just because they are not logically formulated you have to be pretty weak minded. After all, we are trying to understand reality.

***** Schopenhauer logical all the time ? Stay away from philosophy buddy, your statements are absolute shit.
@BluEN11119 жыл бұрын
***** Do you really need to insult me just so you can prove your point? Expand your consciousness buddy, every ideea is valuable as long as it helps you to undestand reality. Schopenhauer has alot of metaphyzical ideeas that can not be verified empirically but they are good. Cognitive dissonance is strong with this one.
@BluEN11119 жыл бұрын
***** I was trying to say that his statements are not logical from a scientific point of view.You are hating someone while you completly forget his good parts, and in this case it's your fault. Take the good ones and leave the statements you don't like, no need to judge him only for the bad ones, who's lacking logic here buddy?
