Adrian Belew has one of the deepest resumes. Not only did he play in King Crimson for many years, and for a short time with Zappa, he also played with David Bowie. And...the Talking Heads. I got to see Belew live twice. Once with King Crimson and once with Frank. But of course, Frank is the star of this show. Got to see him five times in concert, including once with a 37 piece orchestra performing his compositions. That show was released by Zappa as "Orchestral Favorites". Might be a fun listen for you two. Do "Strictly Genteel" live at Royce Hall UCLA, 1975. Originally played by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in Zappa's film "200 Motels" back in '71. For all his ability to play guitar like he did in this video, he was a composer at heart. Blessings.

@Zolar Czakl Same could be said for Alice Cooper. Frank saw him play and made comment to the effect that anyone who could clear a room that fast had to be given a shot. Then signed him.

Frank’s guitar solos are often melodic theme and variation and his improvisations sometimes spawn new songs. He was aware some of his fans cared about his playing so much he even released a series of albums Shut Up N Play Your Guitar, Shut Up N Play Your Guitar Some More, and The Return of the Son of Shut Up N Play Your Guitar. Later all three were released together under the first title.

Very good idea to form such a reacting tandem, you make me smile, and so does this music. :) Absolutely fabulous performance. Otherwise it's from the Bongo Fury album, live in Austin, TX... And does not Frank credit John Smothers at the end ;) He is Frank's bodyguard. Thank you father and daugther, it was fun.

Frank stopped using the name Mothers of Invention in early 1976. The original Mothers of Invention lasted from 1965-1969. He created a new band that was named The Mothers that lasted 1970-1971. From then on he was essentially promoting himself by his name and no longer by the name of a band. However, between 1973 till very early 1976, he would off and on call the band he's working with as The Mothers of Invention.

I've seen a few of your reactions and enjoyed them. The young one looks like a good natured soul with open ears. I know this is old by now but maybe you'll read it. Though he could be a strict taskmaster, Frank also liked to to have impromptu fun. His bodyguard obviously didn't know the lyrics. He realized he needed a bodyguard after he was thrown off the stage in London by someone from the audience; Almost ended his career. Also, Frank didn't play solos like many guitar players; he played them like he was composing. So his style isn't to everyone's liking.

@@DashyAndDadReacts You two keep up the great work. Frank was playing in England when a guy from the audience got on stage and pushed Frank off the stage. He broke some bones. Made one leg a bit shorter than the other and lowered Franks voice a bit. If you ever look at Just Another Band From LA. (JABFLA) you see Frank laying flat with a cast on his leg. (cartoon style)

Think Zappa did this with Captain Beefheart as well. He of "Trout Mask Replica" album fame, although I preferred "Safe As Milk". My favourite tracks were "Big Eyed Being From Venus" and "Electricity. Very odd group, was said that Capt Beefheart (Don Glen Vliet) threatened the group with a revolver when practising for the Trout mask album and their guitarist Ry Cooder decided to leave after that, can't think why. LOL

No, Cooder left long before Trout Mask Replica. By his own account the last straw was when the band had a chance at the big time, playing an outdoor festival that should have been preparation for a spot at Monterey Pop. Apparently, early on in the set Beefheart freaked out, walked off the back of the stage and fell 10 feet onto their manager, leaving the rest of the band to carry on just instrumentally. To be fair, I think other freaky things had happened as well and Cooder was getting tired of that shit. Cooder, like Zappa, was a professional and Beefheart, for all his virtues, really wasn't.

@@DashyAndDadReacts Listen to the album version of the Muffin Man to really see what the song started as. Its on the album Bongo Fury which also happens to be live. In later years of Franks's touring the song really became just a guitar solo spot live and omits the whole vocal (Spoken) section.

Obviously the version on Bongo Fury is much better, but AFAIK there is no video available from that performance. That said, you gotta admit that it's fun to watch him engaging with and entertain the crowd. Most of his concerts were about having fun with a little musical magic thrown in here and there.
