With all due respect, I have no problem with people discussing why they do not appreciate an artist. I thought it should be said that a lot of your commentary is just incorrect. Your speculations seem like they are coming from two people that don’t really know much about this artist at all but just are talking to create content. I understand why some people do not like Zappa but he made an unarguable impact on music and the arts. Example of something you got really wrong, Someone who is able to create that body of work has many more fans than you seem to believe he has and that is just the tip of the iceberg of things you just got completely wrong. As someone who has listened to Zappa since 1973 to now (52 years), all I can say is that it's always been this way..."You either love it or you hate it! There's no grey area." You guys obviously hate it and that's okay. It's not for everyone and I completely understand that. I do think history will show that Zappa had talent, whether it was composing, producing or playing different instruments, and you can't deny that he knew how to do these things. Finally, I'll say this...Personally, I love the music, but never liked the guy (if that makes sense). I didn't like his politics, his narcissism, his obvious feelings towards women, homosexuals, religion and a host of other topics. But when I first heard Overnite Sensation, I was hooked! It just happened that way!

I think I'm in the gray area. I feel lucky to have seen him live a couple times when I was a teenager, I like parts of the albums up to Zoot Allures, and Shut Up and Play Your Guitar, but I had a roommate who listened to Joe's Garage a lot and that was what put me off. His humor is misogynist cringe and a lot of his music is just dull. I own a bunch of his albums on vinyl but none of them have made it to my mp3 collection, meaning I haven't listened to them in probably 20 years.

Same here, i listen to music for music. I can laugh at joke too though. Nobody else was making music that was inspired by Stravinsky, Boulez, Varese as well as Blues like Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Johnny Guitar Watson. DooWop like The Medallions, The El Dorados, Hank Ballard and the Midnighters. Why is it so hard for some people to figure out? Because they think rock started with the Beatles. I don't care about anything else that goes on but the music. I don't read the books, don't care about the drama. Don't care if he could be an A hole. Its all about the music for me.

this is sort of a succinct overview of what people think about the surface level of Frank Zappa is. Its like saying lou reed is basically singing three chords badly with a heroin needle hanging from his arm , and basically don't you leave that behind when you leave art school

Caffeine is so common people forget it's a drug and some people define drug as illegal drugs. I talked to someone from Australia who said his local pub was drug free and when I said alcohol was a drug he said he meant illegal drugs.

40 minutes in!! LOL. What makes this shit so funny is these two guys are SO CERTAIN of their own clueless opinions on Frank Zappa's music. It's kind of creepy Omar Rodriguez Lopez? Yeah, sure his stuff is "interesting", i.e better than 90% of the crap out there, but it doesn't offer a whole lot for musicians that actually understand Frank Zappa's stuff.
@johnakniАй бұрын
Don't forget that these two guys thinks the greatest music ever made was Puddle of Mudd. Thats the perspective they are coming from. Had Frank Zappa lived, I imagine he would have recorded hundreds of albums making fun of Puddle of Mudd.

You would have listened to hundreds of albums that were recorded for the purpose of mocking Puddle of Mudd? Embarrassing.

Lol, I love Frank but most of his music that isn’t blues-rock based is just him writing out extremely complicated musical figures, and then forcing musicians to play them. An old bass teacher of mine was in his band for a very brief period of time and said that he was pissed off all the time. I read his daughter’s book and oh boy did growing up in that household totally fuck up a person. Still, I love most of Frank’s music.
@robeh250526 күн бұрын

(deleted insult). He obviously didn't write this music for most people. He created more for himself if anyone like it, more for the better. I think learning to play music changes the way you listen and appreciate Music.

You have to be a musician to appreciate jazz, Any drummer that disses jazz, my opinion of them goes way down. One guy dissed Buddy Rich while saying how great Alex Van Halen was. The ironic thing is, AVH said he loved Buddy Rich and was his main inspiration to play the drums in the first place.

I'm surprised y'all didn't mention how Gale Zappa sued her son Dweezil, for using his own last name for his "Zappa plays Zappa" tour. Crazy family.
@BCThunderthudАй бұрын
I feel like they went easy on Dweezil out of solidarity. I never heard Tyler play but I have to assume he's not nearly as good as Dweezil but he got to play with his dad a lot more, and has been more successful at finding his own thing. He'd be easy to make fun of but they have too much in common to be an actual dick about him.
