'Zoot Allures'...My Absolute favourite album from Frank.

The lyrics reflect a true chaos in a prision, everything is surreal. Great Zappa . As a subscriber of this channel I want to thank all the people that wrote me in the comments in a previous video of support and emphaty for the death of my siamese cat Gregory, thanks for your solidarity and hugs for everybody from Rosa. Greetings from Asturias (Spain) 👏🏻🤗👍👻👾🎃

"A tiny light, from a window hole, a 100 yds away, is all they ever gets to know of the regular light in the Day" Great Halloween traditon, now you need to do the Transylvania Polka by the Count from Sesame Street.

Frank Zappa was an experimental musical genius. I don't use that description lightly. He surrounded himself with some amazing talent. RIP FZ.
@Grithron2 Жыл бұрын
The first couple of performances in 1975 had Frank introducing it as a "twisted" version of "Captain Beefheart's life in the Mojave Desert" - perhaps referring to the torture Don inflicted on the musicians he lived with. But people have interpreted it as being about political prisoners, as a premonition of Guantanamo Bay, or just as a metaphor for Frank at work in his home-studio (Don made a remark to that effect, at a time when Frank didn't even have a proper home studio). That last verse which complicates everything - it certainly makes the dungeon seem more like a composerly metaphor. In any case, we know Frank takes some imagery (the weeping wall, the diminutive assistant) from Duke Bluebeard's Castle (a fable famously set to music by FZ old-fave Bela Bartok). Many people swear by the Belew-era 1977-78 versions of the song, with Bozzio on drums and an inevitable "crescendo" during the solos. But my favorite versions are from the late 1980 tour, where Frank shared solo duties with either Arthur or (more often) Tommy - and, crucially, Vinnie was on drums, throwing mathematical obstacles in every direction. That said, the funniest versions of course are the '88 ones with all the musical quotations worked in, plus (as often as not) secret-word adlibbing (see Barcelona, Stockholm etc etc).

I've got to say something about this, because I was at this show and there was tremendous excitement happening, my problem with this show is the sound, zappas guitar was screaming and ripping in his solos and I have heard every recording of it, whether it be a video or an audio recording, and believe me, none of them even come close to reproducing the sound that you heard of actually being there, I don't know why they couldn't get it right, but listening to zappas guitar in the palladium that night was nothing short of amazing, just wanted to let everyone know

Frank's total ensemble,style,etc was better when Bozzio was his drummer.

@@Artificialintelligentle Granted, Globey, but Eddie is just saying that the sound of the guitar on any video or recording released doesn't do justice to what was heard there in the Palladium. Everybody knows that the 75-mid '78 Bozzio/O'Hearn/Belew era was the only era worth listening to, and that if Frank started and ended his career there, he would've been the greatest short-lived band in the history of music. We get it. Happy Halloween, Globey.

Hi Eddie, for some reason when Zappa mixed these shows for dvd release he changed the sound of the guitar, adding loads of flange that wasn’t there on the night. I don’t know if you’ve listened to the Halloween 81 box set? It’s the full shows and it’s been newly remixed from scratch giving the guitar the actual sound of the show, would be interesting to hear what you think of it, have a listen to that (it’s available on streaming etc)

@@HakanTunaMuzik Right you are, Hakan. Lagzatzappateers made a video of Illinois Enema Bandit from the DVD of this show and synced it up with the audio from the CD boxed set that restores the guitar sound. Too bad the Lag couldn't give the entire DVD the treatement. Zappy Halloween, everybody! Arf arf, Frank Zappa, wherever you are...

ok...here's how it went...at least in my opinion...John Lennon discovered backwards music by accident when he reeled up a tape on his home reel to reel backwards by mistake. HOWEVER... one month BEFORE the Beatles recorded Rain... Frank Zappa was recording Return of the Son of Monster Magnet.. which has backwards vocals on it (and not by mistake) ...so... technically... Zappa was first, although the album Freak Out came out AFTER Rain. So... by public standards... The Beatles beat Zappa to the punch. But it was coincedental. Lennon COULDN'T have heard Freak Out when he accidentally discovered backwards recording. And after Rain.. they used it a bunch of times. Zappa, on the other hand used it only a few times, but in very strange ways... like COMPLETE SONGS backwards. I'm guessing that Zappa saw it as a cheap trick, and also he didn't like what did to the Bass Frequenzy Response. If you listen, the two songs where he did the main tracks backwards... he added Bass and Drums that were being played forwards.

From wiki, and you can listen to the song itself to verify it: *In 1959, a vocal group called The Eligibles released a record called "Car Trouble", which contains two nonsense passages. When reversed, they reveal the phrases "And you can get my daughter back by **10:30**, you bum!" and (perhaps inevitably) "Now, lookit here, cats, stop running these records backwards!".* *Peaking at **#107** on the Billboard magazine charts that summer, "Car Trouble" is believed to be the first hit record to contain backmasking.*

Did Zappa get in trouble for "sinister midget?"...lol...no. Frank got in trouble for worse. He made fun of...Jewish women...lol.
@Royale_with_Cheeze Жыл бұрын
Heck, Randy Newman would've gotten into trouble for Short People if that were the case. I think that Frank, being hardly ever on the radio, flew under the radar. Jewish Princess definitely struck a nerve though. When asked to apologize, he basically told them to pound sand.

Too bad you chose a live version. Live is the show while studio is the art. Major difference, IMHO.
