Yes, but this is such a great solo it deserves it's own name :)

This is definitely one of my fav Zappa solos. Its so visceral. Also love St Etienne for its remarkably interesting phrasing.

Another fine example of Frank's great editing skills, done at the time in 1978 with razor blade and tape. The entire solo from The Torture Never Stops lasts a full minute longer. Important to note that a minute chunk isn't removed from it. Just a bar here and there to tighten it up throughout the number. Frank was a master with the razor blade. Arf!!

Glad to see you getting into this. So many amazing things in Frank's back catalogue.

It's possible that this is the very solo that Frank was playing when Bowie was backstage and beckoned Belew over, starting the ball rolling that got Belew to leave Zappa and join him. Bowie asked Belew if he wanted to join his band. Belew said, "I have a job, with that guy playing guitar right there." Zappa took one of his usual lengthy solos while the band left the stage. This may well be the exact moment that Capt. Tom made his approach.

@@lepetitoiseau Hi petit oiseau. Funny seeing you here. You're usually relegated to a birdcage somewhere in Laura's home.

never considered this, but it is indeed from the performance when Bowie was backstage. Belew spoke about the Berlin show a day after one in Cologne. This is the solo taken from that show. Belew also mentioned being backstage when Zappa was soloing. As if Zappa knew what was going on and put all his anger in this amazing solo!

Dan, I'm pretty sure I hear a bass and maybe a keyboard really low in the mix but there if you concentrate on listening for it.

For me it's strange, you are listening to a solo from one of the best guitarists the world has known and Sifa would like to hear his solo played by another person (Vai). Yes, very strange....
