1985 was a great year musically and frankie goes to hollywood were no exception. I think what a lot of people forget is that fgth were as much trevor horns production and a raft of session musicians he brought in, as much as it was the band themselves. They shot to fame in 1984 after being featured as an unsigned liverpool band on the tube, a uk music programme on the relatively new channel 4. Trevor horn then signed them up to ztt records and the rest is history. As a 14 year old i didnt care, none of it mattered to me, the album was brilliant. The marketing for their merchandise and records was everywhere and i bought all the different versions of two tribes and relax and welcome to the pleasuredome etc and didnt care...they were a great band during a fantastic time growing up in the 80s..."frankie say relax"...

Interesting factoid: John Peel (RIP) played their first commercial single 'Relax' (when I first heard it) in 1983, more than a year before it went mainstream in 1984 (concurrent with a daytime ban on R1).
@lornapowell23623 жыл бұрын
I might be off on the year as i originally put 1985, but i think relax was in 1984...either way....when i was at padgate college in the mid 80s a lad who used to get on the bus to college used to flog bootleg tapes of concerts and i remember buying a tape of an early unsigned frankie goes to hollywood gig. There songs sounded very different and much more raw...if you watch the tube clip where they feature frankie before they are signed to ztt, you can hear the early version of relax...and also the bondage gear that they used to wear...

Four of the original members also wrote all those big no 1 hits. Were they session musician level? Here here! Amid all the synth-pop of the 80s, this band was truly unique. Real artists!

WW84 brought me here but I have been listening to this song on repeat because even though it came out before my time... I totally understand the theme of this song.. Frankie Goes to Hollywood is a BDSM/Taboo dream come true! And I can't wait to theme my next party "Welcome to the Pleasuredome"...

Kristen Wiig was unrealistically hot in this WW84. Especially the party scene when this song comes on.

Absolutely epic. I was much younger back in "the day", and always had visions of myself in some sort of theme park somewhere in the night sky (surrounded by shooting stars and supernovae of course) whenever I listened to this. Today it came on the radio.....and at the age of 'half a century' I had visions of myself in a theme park up in the night sky. If that doesn't demonstrate to me the power of this track, nothing does. FGTH, thank you for creating such a forceful, evocative, never-die piece of music back in that fabulous decade we know as the 80s.....thank you.

Good days. Back when Southall was a human wall, Sharpy was a goal machine and Reidy was the world's greatest enforcer :D

A great band with a great song. This always reminds me of a film called The Business starring Danny Dyer and Tamar Hassan. I always think the drummer looks like Everton goalkeeper Neville Southall with a perm.

This Song really turns the Cold War from a Dark and Grim world of 2 Superpowers fighting for Dominance and ready to end the world with the press of a button to a World where everyone is on a Wild Ride of Technological Progress beyond their wildest dreams

I played hooky from school the day FGTH came to Washington, DC to do a record-signing... somewhere in Georgetown. OMG, it was like the Beatles had arrived with all of the hoopla. There was such chaos that I grabbed the first thing I could find in the store for them to sign - the 12" single for "Two Tribes." I was pushed through the line so fast... I think I only got Paul and Nash to sign. And then I was pushed right out the door without even being able to pay for the single. I still have it!
