For me introverted intuition leads to solutions to my problems. The difficult thing is listening to your intuitive insights and lending them validity in a world that prefers the concrete and the rational to things you can't see or prove. But it's really good stuff if you get in the habit of listening to it, for instance dreams are a powerful way the benevolent energies of the world lend a hand to those of us sensitive and willing to accept that guidance. I like dreammoods dot com for possible interpretations, I ask myself if the dream symbol interpretation makes sense for what's happening in my life, and sometimes it does; it can give insight and show patterns.

Another thing I've been doing lately is before I go to bed, do some kind of prayer or at least just mentally list five things at the forefront of my mind...my worries or confusions usually, with a 'please help' undertone. Oftentimes the next day, articles will pop up in my feed on the very topics I was seeking insight into, it's kind of fun and hilarious actually when it happens like that. You have to be open to it and accept it as valid though for it to work, you can't be judging it as b.s.

Being an INFJ and in a relationship with an ISFJ is kinda fun because of some of the things you mentioned. I happily wander around with my head in a bubble, contemplating various things. My boyfriend keeps pulling me back to the physical world, and he keeps asking me what I want to do. It’s also a rare thing for him to dream himself away like that. I can ask him where he sees himself in ten years, but he’ll ask me what I’m going to do in an hour. It’s this kinda push-pull-thing that’s actually rather comfortable. I have to take part in the real, physical world, although I would much rather stay inside of my own head. He has to allow himself to get caught up in dreams and fantasies every now and then, although he would much rather stick to the facts and the here-and-now. Being with him have made me realise how many things I need to see in the real world, and this have somehow stimulated my imagination and thought-process, so that I can see ideas and weird concepts in new ways. (I’m sorry if my english is bad, I’m not a native speaker. This was also something I just wanted to share, because I’ve thought a lot about these things)

Ingemaja have you ever considered whether you’re an INFP? The reason I ask is Si for an INFJ is normally viewed as pointless and basic, it’s the opposite of inspiring to us. Whereas an INFP uses Si as a tertiary function so strengthening with a dominant user would help feed their Ne providing that boost of renewed creativity. Food for thought..
@heatherpence21455 жыл бұрын
I loved your comment. What concepts do you see in new ways?
@Ingemaja5 жыл бұрын
Sarah Dennis It’s an interesting thought, that I have entertained a few times. It would make sense, but at the same time not. I can’t quite explain it, but it doesn’t really fit. INFP would explain some things, but INFJ explains more. Could this be a sign of imbalance? Gathering and organising new things in order to feed my imagination have, for instance, helped me write some not-so-depressing poems. It seems (to me, who may or may not be wrong about myself) as though everything is set to serve my world of thoughts, but that doesn’t necessarily point towards one specific type. That’s more like... hi, I’m an I. The interesting question would be what kind of thoughts, right? Do I know my feelings, do I know what I value? Truth is: I’ve tossed around a lot of thoughts during the past six years, and my views regarding a lot of different things have changed. My self-worth is different, I’ve reconsidered some rather harmful views I had (I’ve also gone from 16 to 22 years old, so I’m quite young, and I have to keep in mind that I don’t know everything). If your thought is right, and I’m an INFP... then what would this change mean for the lead Fi? It seems like everybody can have tendencies that points towards functions that they don’t really like to use (that’s at least what I gather, from watching people trying to type others and so forth). My younger self lived 24/7 inside of this bubble of fantasies, and weren’t really willing to do anything else. The real world used to be boring, but my boyfriend showed me how it could sometimes be fun: like when you share a meal with someone you love, or when you go for a walk somewhere nice. I suppose the part about being in a bubble 24/7 also points towards an imbalance, but that’s where I feel the most at home: in a world that I’ve built for myself, where knowledge, ideas and loved ones take up most of the space. An INFJ have Se as their fourth function, whereas an INFP have Si as their third. You’re absolutely right in pointing that out, seeing as I’ve grown to like the world around me (although it’s draining to spend time outside of the bubble). F also deals with choices, and I’m terrible at making decisions (it can literally take days for me to find out whether I want to see a movie or not, and that should have been an easy decision). There’s also the question of the thought-process that goes into various choices. I do ask myself if something is good, but I also ask myself if the choices makes sense from a more logical point of view. I struggle a little to see how inferior Te would be able to be so present in this process, unless I’m some weirdo who’ve somehow managed to develop my inferior function more than my third (sorry, I’m not quite comfortable with saying tertiary and auxiliary) function. INFJ or INFP shouldn’t both be right, but I can seem like both. Living 24/7 inside of a bubble is in no way healthy, and I’ve had to practice being in the real world for the past years: having an ISFJ there have helped me a lot, but that also does suggest that I might be wrong. No, I’m not sure. INFJ fits the most, but I can definitely see the possibility of being wrong. Thank you for the suggestion, it definitely is some food for thought. I think I should go look more into it, and try to view these things without the glasses that reads “I’m this, not that. I’m like this and that, and that means I can’t be like that” (😅). Edit: fixed some typos

I'm an INFJ and my husband of 22 years is an ISFJ. I think we're a great combination. We have a lot of similarities that make it easy for us to get along. He definitely keeps me grounded - well, he keeps our whole family grounded (which can be a tough job!). Our daughter is an INFP and our son is an INFJ. My husband is definitely a caretaker in a practical way - where I am more of a caretaker in a spiritual/emotional way. He makes sure things in the real world get done while my head is in the clouds (trying to figure out how to save the world). He's a firefighter and I am a speech therapist. I recently left my job to dedicate more time to volunteering. While I loved my job, I felt constrained by the practical side of it and felt more drawn to helping people on a deeper level. I'm really drawn to ministry, counseling, psychology. I'm so thankful for my ISFJ husband!

They are great at being supportive (as you said) both emotionally and in a practical way (well, if you want to do this, here is what needs to happen). We INFJ's see the big picture and get the ideas, they see the details and the steps that need to be taken to get there. But the mutual empathy is amazing! And the wanting to care for the other mutually creates such an amazing bond!

So I am an ISFJ and I really enjoyed this video. And I realized something while watching it - you talk about ISFJs being afraid of new concepts, and that's a take I often hear and makes me doubt my type (but looking at the functions it's pretty obvious). And while you were talking I realized - I'm not afraid of new concepts, but on my own it would *never* occur to me to change a concept rather than to gather more information. And sometimes you need to conceptualize something differently. I'm married to an INTP and one of our earliest conversations involved his suggestion that I change my conceptual framework about something, and it was a super helpful suggestion. So yeah, I'm not really averse to new concepts, but they also do not occur to me as an option.
@dppool4563 жыл бұрын
Inferior functions (for you Ne) aren´t things that aren´t valued, their actually the direction of growth. INTPs (my type) want to take care of people but feel completely inadequate at it by nature. But as they grow, they get better and better at it. Approaching empathy is approaching self-actualization. For ISFJs, they value possibilities and new ideas, but they initially feel completely inadequate in the area. As they grow and get better and better at seeing the world through a more open lens, they approach self-actualization.

So as an INFJ married to an ISFJ there are 10 stark differences. 🐟🐠 We are honestly loving soul mates and the best pair: ying and yang ♾ 1. ISFJ will have various mechanical tools organized & drawn out on the shop wall; INFJ don’t have tools, they have paint brushes & one screwdriver. 2. ISFJ have impressive time management; INFJ are amazing at losing time after reading a multitude of articles about how Bonobo matriarch systems function. 🐵 3. ISFJ enjoy the same meals at the same restaurant with the same hot sauce; INFJ will try anything: especially if dared 😅 4. ISFJ enjoy viewing historical documentaries and men especially sports live so they can continually yell at the tv; INFJ enjoy viewing fantasies or disappear in a labyrinth of SCI-FI. 5. ISFJ barely ever cry and don’t want to waste valuable time on a nonsense emotion; INFJ will cry over watching a struggling caterpillar trying to climb over a street curb to lush freedom!! 🐛 6. ISFJ will only help others when it’s essential; INFJ will help and love helping until mental exhaustion then disappear for three days or possibly a week... 7. ISFJ thrive in monotony; INFJ’s kryptonite is monotony- despise monotony- will sing lyrical ditties of “I hate monotony...” 8. ISFJ start to panic when clutter accumulates; INFJ are strong starters but not finishers- so clutter of dead visions are everywhere!! 9. ISFJ dislike crowds of people, obnoxious noise, putrid smells anything they can’t control; INFJ also dislike crowds, obnoxious noise, putrid smells anything they can’t control but are too curious not to investigate. 🔎 10. ISFJ have a tendency to not be ‘artistic’ or ‘creative’ in a sense; INFJ are super creative BUT no one will ever know because they procrastinate and question their gifts. 🤣 Hope you enjoyed; it’s truly a blessed partnership, he’s very supportive and my best friend 💕

INFJ with the ISFJ beat (figuratively speaking, in most cases) into me by my mother and grandma. So I get burnt out super quickly and am constantly at war with myself. It only made my INFJ perfectionism spill out into the tangible world. So now you have an INFJ who can’t be at peace in either space (abstract or concrete) basically. Who can’t handle mess and disorganization but will burn herself out to the point of letting it all crash and burn for a few days until she gets her next burst of energy. Sometimes I am great with details to the point of remembering someone’s name that was randomly thrown in a conversation a few months back. Other times, it takes me years to take into account the presence of something that’s been standing in the same place for years. The only reason I’ve been able to finally settle on being an INFJ is because I can handle tangible details very well. But it stresses me out immensely. The whole time I’m moody and freaking out. But things do get done.

But I also like to go out of the norm and explore various meals from various cultures, I have a very refined pallet. 5. I do not like to cry, I avoid movies and music that makes me cry. and yet every time I see/here one I ball like a baby. I do both of 6. I will help others both physically and emotionally even past my own breaking point with no regard to my own personal health. I am typically an outgoing person, even still I have very strong feelings about keeping my privacy and enjoy being alone with myself. I need that time absorb and reflect. The rest I am 100% on point with INFJ's

He's very organized and intuitive with remembering the little details of who's in the hospital, who's aunt has cancer, and when it's the anniversary of a widow losing her husband and she needs a phone call. He's also really good at listening and taking in new information and challenging what he knows with that new information. I don't know if that would put him more in the INFJ category.

So much on point! I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos Frank. This is one of my new favorites. I’m an INFP with an ISFJ husband and a good friend who is INFJ. I love them both very much and based on my experience with them, you have nailed some of their major qualities. My husband keeps me grounded with his focus on facts and figures. My friend, who used to be a missionary, feeds my interest in spiritual/personal growth. If you have more to share about similarities or differences between them, I’d love to hear. Thanks!

@Susan Wojcicki is a sad, lonely hag Great question! I offer my INFJ friend calm, grounded, nonjudgmental energy and emotional support, plus a distraction from her worries. I offer my husband daydreams about our future and add spontaneity to his planning nature. We’ve since found out he’s a closer fit with ISTJ.

Do you think you could make a video where you explain the four main functions and how to determine them for the types? Like extroverted feeling etc. I cant seem to find an explanation for those online and you got it all figured out 😩👌
@june233 жыл бұрын
I'm a bit late, first letter is direction of the first function, second and third letters are the preferred perceiving and judging functions in the top 2, and last letter determines which of the preferred perceiving and judging functions are extroverted: For INFJs, I says their dominant is introverted, NF says they have Nx and Fx in their top two, J says that F is extroverted, so it's Fe, which makes their N into Ni, and since their dominant is introverted, Ni goes first. The third and fourth functions mirror the natures of the top two, so if top two is Ni then Fe (perceiving then judging) then bottom two is Ti then Se (judging then perceiving, oh and don't forget about the functions alternating directions (Xi Xe Xi Xe or Xe Xi Xe Xi) Last one: ESFP, E says the dominant is extroverted and makes the alternation Xe Xi Xe Xi, SF says S and F are top two, P says S is Se and F is Fi, fill in the alternation and boom u get Se Fi Te Ni

What an amazing video!! I'm an ISFJ nearly always mistyped as an INFJ, and I just wrote an accidental essay on how much I loved this and how much it made me think. Somehow, though I accidentally typed a command to exit the browser, and I'm frankly devastated, so I'll try to sum up. In short-thank you for another wonderful vid! You've summed up the main similarities and differences with eloquence and ease-and with minimal intuitive bias! That's always really nice to see. I do think a lot of INFJ stereotypes apply to ISFJs, too, which leads a lot of people to lean towards INFJ (in addition to the bias). I'm always lost in my head; however, although I don't shy away from intriguing concepts or my imagination, the way my brain functions without any prompting is to connect what I'm processing now with an infinite network of specific memories, leading me to something completely different. And ISFJs often struggle to be in the moment, but because of an inferior-Ne crisis creator ("What if this goes wrong? What if that goes wrong? What if I mess this up?") rather than inferior Se. I can't even be mad about the traditional stereotype, as so many ISFJs follow convention, but my philosophy (one that I've seen in quite a few fellow ISFJs!) is to analyze our current systems, understand how we arrived here, and then change what we know doesn't work-i.e. what causes harm and hurt to others. As a member of a couple marginalized communities and an ally to others, it's very important to me to say, "We've seen this cause pain; we know it doesn't work. We need to make a change." I'm guided by the past, for sure, but that past guides me to make a better future, and a better present as well. I guess I just wrote a slightly shorter essay, but really-awesome job! These videos are truly fantastic. Love your content!

I have one more day before I take Mark to have radioactive beads put in his body. I have been preparing for the last 5 days all in my head. You couldn't tell by looking at me that I was in a very hard workout. I wasn't doing sit ups or running around a lot. On average it takes me 5 to 7 days to build up my mind and my spirit in order to be able to take care of anyting. I am ready to be in rooms for surgeons and anesthesiologist and I am ready to sit by myself for 6 hours waiting and I'm prepared to become a nurse even though that type of personality is what my daughter is. Thanks for describing all this in such an easy-to-understand way. Easy to look at too. I told you you were going to get to 35 thousand subscribers by my birthday. Hi FJ! Thanks for making this video. I find myself grappling with whether I am INFJ, INFP, or ISFJ. I've been trying to get into inferior and shadow functions as I'm learning to work through my dx social anxiety and dx ocd and become cognitively healthier. The problem is, I see that I can catastrophize things when stressed (inf Ne), refrain from engaging in the physical world (i.e. have a hard time eating when stressed, inf Se), and also I will kick into high gear with organizing and turning toward science videos/factual videos when having panic attacks (inf Te). Please forgive me if I have distorted these functions, but I'm just torn between various functions. I would say I make decisions based on my values because I want to help people (Fi), yet I can feel what others are feeling instantaneously such as when someone is crying or someone is happy (Fe), then that's how I will feel. If you'd be able to help out with this, that would be awesome, if not no worries, I understand ^__^ '

They should teach kids in high school what their personality type is we believe that knowing ‘who and why you are the way you are’ would alleviate a lot of anxiety and angst in your teenage years and beyond. Sadly we are surrounded by people who are not like us, we are constantly thinking of others but sadly never get this back. We both thought that everyone’s first thought was “how can I help” we have only just come to the realisation that most people are inherently selfish, they don’t listen and don’t hesitate in exaggerating or telling untruths. How do we stop ourselves from caring so much about others ? Thank god my daughter and I have each other.
