This is one of the most important songs in my life. 2013, I was getting myself together recovering from 10 years of depression and drug use. I found a purpose, a new path and started a new life. Now, ten years later, it's all fallen apart. I listened to this again today and remembered that "broken people can get better if they really want to". God, I want to.

Izzy Beth your breaking my heart. I was a lead singer for decades, been on top of the world, so many people patting me on the back to lowest of lows. As someone who's suffered brutal addictions for decades but never gave up even in the lowest depressing times I somehow made it out by the grace of God and a lot of praying for help from above. ( listen to Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd) and getting help. Life's not easy it's brutal but it can also be beautiful and amazing and peaceful once you're out of that s*** hole state. Your not alone. Your life is of 'exceptional' value and worth! So don't give up. Please. Never met you but I love you. JHVH God loves you. I feel your pain I'm pretty sure I know your pain cuz I've been close to ending it all and if I didn't end it personally,, the drugs mixed with alcohol, or the drug addicts, physcos/ dealers nearly nearly did. Not sure what you're on or what you're doing but get yourself some help and talk to a mature person who you trust. If you're a female which I think you are then talk to a mature trustworthy female. If drugs like opiods the kill thousands every day get immediate DETOX OR YOU WILL DIE. FACT. Not all but some men can take advantage of a girl in a vulnerable position and make things a million times worse by their selfish disgusting abhorrent greedy actions. Please be safe Izzy B. Please also go to jw org for spiritual, mental healing and guidance. Type in ANY topic in the search bar for wisdom. It's also in over 1,000 languages more than any other on the planet to get the good news though that there's a beautiful hope for the future for those that put their faith in God and what he soon about to do for faithful loyal humans living morally clean lives

I got home from work tonight and popped on the radio in this song came on and it caught my attention because I'm a singer-songwriter musician for over 30 years in Canada and I was like wow this is a great catchy tune so I looked him up on KZbin and net,,,of course this is what I do when you hear something really like and wow I was truly Blown Away by The Poetry and Genius of this songs lyrics, melody, so true to life. Especially myself who suffered with brutal addictions for decades being lead singer of band, it's still daily battle and I know so many who have suffered and who have died as I'm sure you do,,, so Props to Frank! for putting it into words and also you know losing my love as well,,,that's part of the song too! like he puts it all in there there's just so much I'm just scratching the surface here cuz I don't have time but it's really an amazing catchy tune. One you just want to crank up on your headphones and jump and dance around and get it all out GET IT ALL OUT with tears if need be. There is nothing wrong with a man crying in fact it's healthy the ones that don't hold it all in and extremely bitter and messed up it got to let it out once in awhile it's completely normal and healthy and good to do there's a lot of Science and experts that back this up. This isn't the 1950s anymore where men held it all in and just beat their wives. They ended up having miserable lives. Give er' a good ol' cry every now and again. It's healthy. You'll be healthier and happier! Well proven. So after a little man balling😭leting out the pain,,,cool tune like this then just relax and have a nice nap , SIESTA for my Spanish folks out there😅 ,,,,,,,in total and complete peace. ✌️ out.

I’m 21. I was getting my hair cut maybe 5 months ago, and my barber mentioned the song “Get better” and told me I should listen to it. I added that song on Spotify and listened to it, but it was t until last week I visited the creator of that song’s page, Frank Turner. I clicked on Recovery and about 20 seconds into the song I Remembered it. From the back of my memory was sitting this song, for maybe about 10 years. I remember this song so vividly, to the point I don’t understand how I forgot about. I used to love this song, when I was 12, and I’m 21 now. This song means more to me than it did back then, at least now I can understand the lyrics and lap them over my own problems. Banger song, shout out to my barber for putting me back onto this fuckin heat

As usual, a Brit writes incredibly literate lyrics and a GREAT song. Speaking from the US, thank god for an almost thousand year history of great British songwriting from madrigals to the present day. From Thomas Morley on, the world is a better place because of a great tradition of English composers and songs.

I heard this on the local AAA radio station earlier. My finger hovered on the button for the first few seconds...but when the chorus hit my jaw dropped. Brilliant! What a crisp, refreshing energy Frank Turner has. With all the junk on the radio today and my advancing age (almost 31), it's hard to get that same rush from new rock that I used to get, but the bounce of this tune is unavoidable. Why have I never heard of this guy before?

"Broken people can get better if they really want to..." I see this song in the context of my struggles with bipolar and anxiety disorder. I've lost some "friends" over it, but luckily kept many who help me when things are tough. Not just a "break-up song," I think. The lyrics really focus on the fact that his ("his"?) addiction caused the break-up and the loss of his relationships. It's him recognizing this aspect of himself & asking for help.

Not technically true, a similar technique was used in the video for 'The Good Life' by weezer

Lyrics Blacking in and out in a strange flat in east London Somebody I don't really know just gave me something to help Set me down and stop me always thinking about you And you know your life is heading in a questionable Direction when you're off in days with strangers And you can't remember anything except way you sound When you told me you didn't know what I should do It's a long road out to recovery from here, A long way back to the light A long road out to recovery from here, A long way to make it right And so I wake up in the morning just like every other day And just like every boring blues song I get swallowed by the pain, And so I fumble for your figure in the darkness just to make it go away But you're not lying there any longer and I know That it's my fault so I been pounding on the floor And I've been crawling up the walls and I've been divvying my darkness And Serotonin boosters, cider and some kind of smelling salts It's a long road out to recovery from here, A long way back to the light A long road out to recovery from here, A long way to make it right So on the first night we met you said well darling let's make a deal, If anybody ever asks us well let's say that we met in jail And that's the story that I'm sticking to like A southern face that comforts but today I need to hear Some truth if I'm ever getting through this Yea you once sent me a letter that said if I was lost at sea Close my eyes and catch a time idea and only think of me Well darling now I'm sinking I'm as lost as Lost can be and I'm hoping you can drag me Off and down and out to my recovery If you could just give me a sign and just a subtle little glimmer, A suggestion that you'd have me if I could only make me better Then I'd stand a little stronger as I walk a little taller all the time 'Cause I know that you are cynical but I think I can convince you yea 'cause broken people Can get better if they really want to Or at least that's what I have to tell myself if I'm hoping to survive It's a long road out to recovery from here, A long way back to the light A long road out to recovery from here, A long way back to whats right Darling, sweet lover, won't you help me to recover, Darling, sweet lover, won't you help me to recover, Darling, sweet lover, won't you help me to recover, Darling, sweet lover, one day this will all be over

Were your neighbours playing this and you listened through the wall with a glass and wrote down what you thought you could hear?

Stunning tbh. Its annoys me people say he's sold out because he charges more these days than he used to for gigs. He's playing bigger venues now so ofc he has to charge more, and secondly he does now have a label behind him that decide the final cost of everything. If you really are a fan, you'll be happy for Frank and the success he's had. I played a show with him about 6 years ago at a tiny pub in east london, i couldnt be happier to see him doing so well.

Dear iKirsty The road to recovery has a map. The map can only be seen and found when you look inside and be truly honest with you, yourself and the universe. Peace out and bless up xx
