I lived in Ilfracombe for 25 years and that particular car park is notorious for this kind of thing. Those kids are dicing with death. The year we arrived in the town, the sea took 5 cars clean out of that place down into the rocks 30 feet below!! One of them was never found. There must be some kind of damage to the wall after taking such a beating. I would like to see what is on the other side of the wall down to the sea. How far down to the submerged beach. Big Shout Out to the Cameraperson for showing us a part of your world on this high tide event. Gerry from Florida.

Well if they’d built the wall like Dymchurch in Kent (it has a large concave ‘face’ to direct water away from the land), the water wouldn’t flow over the wall, but instead would be deflected back out to sea.
@Bob78 Жыл бұрын
The submerged beach is called Cheyne Beach, from the pictures I could find, the seawall looks to be 5 - 8m tall (15 - 25 ft) in different places. The sea wall in Dawlish (town on the other side of Devon) broke in a storm in 2014 and the railway line, and the nearby road collapsed, and it destroyed someone's house. There's quite a famous picture of a train running along the tracks, being absolutely soaked by waves. A few years later a bridge collapsed in Dawlish after being hit by too many waves. I don't know whether Ilfracombe is very lucky, or if Dawlish is very unlucky.

@O.O.O.K999 Жыл бұрын
Aren't most of those accidents to do with tombstoning or being drunk? There's a wall there, the kids are having fun - like I would have done at that age, able to assess that the wall protects them from being swept away.
@RichNoons Жыл бұрын
It doesn't protect them from being sent crashing into the rear wall. If a car which is a lot stronger and heavier than a human body can be moved and damaged it's not going to do a kid much cop. Did you not see the transit bumper side as well the Corsa.

Poor cars 😢 I feel really sorry for their owners coming back to find all that damage. 😔 That green car was chucked about all over the place. The beautiful E46 3 Series BMW and that Audi that had a blue badge too 😭. I was in Boscastle the day of the floods in 2004 when all the cars were washed out to sea. We were in the carpark where in happened and for some reason I said let's turn around and go to St Nectans Glen first (just up the hill a mile or so). We then couldn't get there because the river had burst its banks and the footbridge was underwater so we turned back and that's when we discovered all the cars from the carpark we had just been in being washed out to sea. We parked on the headland and watched as helicopters winched people out. I filmed a lot of it on an old camera and have never shared it. I must get it converted to digital as it's the 20th Anniversary next year. x
