We use it for about three people everyday in the morning. The taste and quick brew is one of the reasons we like it so much. I would definitely recommend trying different brands of coffee to find the ones you like the most because there are brands that quite frankly taste horrible.

Something people who don't drink a lot of coffee won't realize is that when you do the sneak a cup thing is that the second cup will be much weaker and sometimes watery. It's because most the dissolved solids and almost all the oils will be in the first cup. Either toss a bit more grinds in when you sneak a cup or have patience!

For the heating plate, I would argue that a higher temperature is worse as it will “burn” the coffee more and you don’t need coffee to be that hot. You won’t be able to drink it until it has cooled to less than about 145F anyway, so I’d say the 12-cup Mr Coffee won the heating plate test.

I've had the Cuisinart one for many years and I love it. I love this machine, and think it makes the best coffee when compared to previous brands I had tried. The 1-4 cup brewing option is good when you don't want to make a full pot because it adjusts the brew strength so you are getting just as good a cup as when you brew a full pot. I also like the variable shut off. The bells and whistles on this model are actually things I use, unlike most appliances, where I usually don't go for the extras. You are right about it maybe being a little more difficult to fill, like many coffee makers. The solution I have found is that I have those OXO Good Grip measuring cups that are silicone. I fill the large one with water, then you can kind of squeeze them when pouring, to make the spout as small as you need it to fill almost anything without spilling. I have never spilled when filling my coffeemaker this way. Plus I can pre-measure the water, that way when I fill, so I don't need to see how much I am filling.
@ebels32 жыл бұрын
I usually just use the measurements on the carafe, possibly adding a half cup to account for evaporation. It depend on the machine how you will need to fill it, but the carafes are usually accurate enough to make a good cup of coffee.

Taste is opinion. There’s chemical differences in what we’re talking about, very similar to cooking a cut of meat or a piece of broccoli. One could have a steak that’s cooked either with great attention to detail and take great value from that, or they could nuke it in the microwave until the color is gone and take great value from that. The difference might be that the nuke’d steak isn’t palatable to most people. Same here.
@locustsun2 жыл бұрын
But, temperature IS important to a good cup of coffee. It's not a one-equals-one problem though. There are variables like coffee quality, age since roast, temperature, water quality, etc that will cause a change in flavor. About half the flavor happens before it gets to your door, but then the other half is how you brew the stuff. But, it's a collective and it's also an individual issue. It's each element that can cause a "bad cup", but it could be a combination. Granted, as you said, it might not be valuable to you. But, if you don't like the kind of coffee you're getting from your brewer, it might be that you're buying a machine that overcooks your coffee. Some people swear off coffee either because it isn't good to them, or it isn't good enough and they might be one to look at this and make a purchase only to discover that they still don't like it. It may be that the machine is giving them a sub-par cup for what they might enjoy.

The one major flaw with all these pots is that the grounds basket is NOT separate from the water reservoir. Which means there will be splashback of coffee and grounds into the water reservoir. My husband and I couldn't help noticing the number of scoops of coffee you used. No matter the coffee maker, we have never used that much coffee. You must like some serious strong brew! Whew!

A timer and heating plate are features I used all the time. So I would set the timer and fill the machine the night before so I had hot coffee waiting for me in the morning. My partner loves coffee so if she was living with me I'd have to buy a coffee machine!
@Hathur2 жыл бұрын
Just a note to anyone using drip coffee makers.. never use the heating plate or let the coffee sit on an active heating plate when its done - coffee burns - those plates DO burn the coffee, making your coffee vastly inferior. Do yourself a favor and either turn off the plate / machine when the coffee is done or remove the caraf from it. If you need to reheat the coffee later, use a microwave, it is much harder to burn coffee that way and will taste a LOT better.

I like that the Cuisinart has a temperature setting. Maybe if they had that on the single serve version I wouldn't have switched it for a Keurig. I need it to stay hot after I add the creamer or it feels like I left it sitting too long.

I've owned several versions of the Mr Coffee, including both of the ones you reviewed and the programmable 12cup model. The 12 cup ones make a better cup than the smaller 5 cup every time. However, the size and price make it a huge value model for a secondary machine at the office etc.

My all time coffee maker is the B & D Thermal pot. If something went wrong with it there was an outlet very close to me and would replace an item for free. Best ever IMO!! Thanks for the reviews and your time. Anyone that is on YT knows about the scams. ☺☺

My coffee make is a bit old... When the coffee ground is still in the filter basket, it is good and not dropping coffee/water out when I take the pot out to poor coffee. If I remove the grinds, there is a tiny bit of water/coffee that will drop out when I first pull the pot out to poor. I have a kleenex or cloth by the maker, ready to wipe that off right-away. I don't want the hot plate area to rust or wear too soon because of the liquid sitting on it, burning into it. I have seen how that can go because of someone else's maker, they leave it every time.

Hi James, My grandfather has one arm from a accident he had in his 20, I recently got one of the jar openers from one of your videos that he loves using now because he is able to use it, I was wondering if you could do a video of one arm/hand items that are new or from past videos. I realize it’s a limited group that could use them but believe it is a group that would really appreciate it since you have so many to test from .

A "pro" in the Cuisinart column I can add is that the one I have was passed down to me from my mother who passed-away in 2009, so it's been in full swing for 13 years under my ownership, and still going strongly. Unfortunately I can't give an accurate assessment as to when she had purchased it, but it definitely has stood the test of time for that $100 purchase.

I have the first model of mr coffee from 1972 model MC-1. It has separate switches for the brew cycle and hot plate! And it still works perfectly!😊
@MrMega2002 жыл бұрын
The modern one shown here is made cheaper because the hotplate and the brewing part share the same heating element, so no need for individual switches.

I had the Cuisinart for something like 8 years before it started leaking somewhere inside and had to replace it with a similar model. I'm a fan of its features and the adjustable temp. I've used a mr coffee basic model while staying at an airbnb which gets the job done but I still like my cuisinart

Had a Cuisinart a similar length of time that began to leak. Replaced it with another by same brand for those same reasons. If it lasts longer than 5 years, got my money’s worth.

Just some recommendations. Could you do a cooling blanket and foot rests made for use with desk/ desk chair
@danc2014 Жыл бұрын
The use of Pause brew was banned at work. the 1st cups are extra strong while the last cup are weak. You should have noted a flavor change while testing. As for time to brew, that determine the flavor extract from the grounds. That along with temperature determine the quality of the brew. Coffee need to be brewed at a correct temperature ~ 195. a colder brew becomes flat tasteless and too hot will be bitter. As for water level? who uses that, just fill the craft with how much your making and pour all of it in.
@Bullweenkle2 жыл бұрын
These all use bubble pump technology. The water is boiled and moved up to the dispenser where it's probably closer to 195. Keeping coffee warm at lower temps is better. Won't give a burned taste over time.

I've had three coffee machines in the last two years. I bought a Hamilton Beach Flex Brew...slowest machine ever! Then got a Keurig...downfall with that one is the filter clogs and you have to buy new ones every couple months and the one cup at a time is a deal breaker. Current coffee maker is a Mr. Coffee 12 cup. This one is faster than the other two and is way easier to clean.
@mommashawna7072 жыл бұрын
A Bunn coffee maker will make 10 cups in 4 mins. It’s the only one that has a reservoir that holds water at 200° at all times so when you pour cold water in the hot water immediately comes out. My current one is 12 years old and going strong!

As far as temp goes, I'd rather be able to down my first morning coffee as opposed to having to wait a longer time for it to cool to a suitable temperature. Just my opinion though. To each their own.

We have a Cuisinart Grind and Brew with stainless steel carafe. I don't think there is a warming plate. For me, the carafe keeps the coffee warm enough for a couple hours (without burning). Not so for my wife, but we lovingly refer to her as "Dragon Lady" because she requires her beverages to be scalding. It's a great coffee maker EXCEPT that the carafe dribbles when pouring. Our previous model (very similar) didn't have this issue. I'd like to see reviews and taste comparisons on coffee makers with built-in grinders.

I think, taking price into consideration, if you need all the features and larger quantity, Black & Decker wins. Therwise the 5 cup Mr. Coffee! I feel like the Cusinart isn’t worth the price for the minor performance difference.

a water level indicator is not necessary. the coffee machine will use all water in the reservoir each time you brew, so you are starting from empty each time you brew. it's not hard to see the surface of the water when it gets near the top of the reservoir.

I've been using my Cuisinart 12-cup coffee maker that has a built-in bean grinder, for over 4 years now and I still love it. I can just load the machine with beans the night before, set the timer and by the time I'm heading into the shower the next morning, the grinder kicks on & starts brewing. Exit the shower & I get fresh ground brewed coffee ready to go. I also like that the lid of the carafe comes off entirely so it's actually easier to clean the pot properly though some people may feel otherwise. Taste-wise, I find setting the brew strength to High and using a really dark, black blend of roasted beans that comes from Indonesia or Singapore, gives me the kind of caramel, buttery taste that I really enjoy. Plus it gives me a buzz that lasts me through the entire morning, second only to an espresso. If I drank an entire 12-cup pot of it, I'd probably be able to fly to work.

The Cuisinart has several other adjustments, like temp control of the water and how fast the water is sent through the grounds. These are fairly hidden, even secret, button combinations.
