I recently travelled in Trenitalia from Paris to Lyon and return, and it was by faaar the best train I've ever been on. Comfortable, spacious, clean, fast, cheap and reliable. It was great after a terrible experience with Cross Country in the UK. I wish the UK had similar trains.
@Desi365 Жыл бұрын
You have to admit this journey has a certain class and poetry. The contrast between the ultimate speed on most of the route and the slower but majestic ride through the Alps make it very remarkable. It's almost like you don't want the new tunnel to be built as it will probably kill the simple pleasure of watching the mountains.

Great video! I've travelled on the TGV in the reverse direction and it definitely looks like the red arrow is a good step up. Frecciarossa is probably one of the best operators in Europe, as you're suggesting. Will be interesting to see when/if they establish further services branching out of Italy. Cheers from Norway (generally great train service, though not in 300km/h)

The tgv is not able to operate on the Italian high speed railway because in Italy we have a different types of current on the railways and the tgv train isn’t able to use the Italian high speed version while the freccia rossa is design to be able to operate on most of the EU countries while the tgv only on French soil
@sagichnicht6748 Жыл бұрын
Italy used to try with tooth and nail to prevent any foreign operater crossing into Italy, using regulatory tools to shoot anything and everything down. This got so bad that for some years there were barely any eurocity cross border services by train from Austria to Italy. Pretty outrageous in our day and age. I take it that things have gotten a lot better in recent years. Probably because ongoing obstructionism increasingly was liable to legal procedures against Italy due to violation of EU laws. It took the ÖBB a ridiculous long time to get permission to run Railjet sets on Italian tracks even though they have been perfectly capable of doing so from a technical perspective for a long time. I am not saying that France is any better, indeed it is probably worse. But as this video shows even they are on retreat in their obstructionism as this Italian service in France shows. There really is no other way long term if they don't wont to be sued into oblivion.

I done Milan - Paris in June in standard class when I decided to travel back from Italy to London by train after my flight was cancelled and decent alternatives were available. Was a nice journey with great views and I much preferred it over flying. Only paid €39 and got about €10 back due to our hour delay arriving in Paris as we had to wait in Modane for just over an hour due to a fire further along the route. I could think of much worse places to be stuck. Just more time to admire the fantastic views.

Paris to Lyon and Turin to Milan you will find that most of this route is actually 300kph. It only the Lyon to Turin stretch that is slower, due to well, mountains. There is a new base tunnel under construction with a new high speed line that will mean much higher speeds between Lyon and Turin.
@zyoninkiro Жыл бұрын
In Italy, once the Frecciarossa and Italo train sets enter the high speed line between Turin and Milan, they rarely dip below 250kph, It's when they are on the classic lines where they are restricted to 150kph and slower depending on the section. The high speed line parallels the A4 autostrada for most of the route and only changes to the classic lines just east of Settimo Torinese (Turin suburb on the west end) and Rho (Milan suburb on the east end).

What's the point of the second check after the entrance gate ? Just to make sure ?? That's ridiculous. If your QR code was good enough to enter the platform, it has to be the right train for you. I don't get where a quid pro quo could possibly even happen. I mean, those e-gates are already bad enough, they make train stations go down the route of airports, you know....
@francescoaiazzone Жыл бұрын
Because the gates are there to stop "undesirable" people, not to check your ticket. You could enter with a ticket for Milan suburban services or, better still, sometimes just wave a ticket-shaped object at the staff.
