His swing is so upright, watch where the club is at the top of his swing and where it is at the end of the swing, amazing.

Fred is such a gifted player that I think you could put his hands or clubhead anywhere and still hit it right in the middle of the face.
@rodneyshelby43712 жыл бұрын
I saw Freddy play years ago on a Champions Tour event in Florida in person the ball went forever and it looked like he was only swinging 80% but the ball just jumped off the face being there in person seeing it with your own eyes him and Ernie Els has the most graceful swing effortless power

Jim Nance of CBS Sports played on the same University of Houston golf team with Couples. He was asked if Freddie was a deligent person when it came to practice. Nance said while the others were working on their game, Couples usually was sleepng in his car. When it was time to tee it up, Freddie would stripe it down the middle and out drive the others.

Fred Couples .... the coat hanger. Those wide primary levers (his shoulders) are the key to his swing speed. Tiger much the same .....
@RollYourRock2 жыл бұрын
Well heck, I've never considered that notion. - Would you mind explaining HOW broad shoulders are "the key" to Fred's/Tiger's higher swing speeds? Thanks! 🙂
@SearchBucket22 жыл бұрын
@@RollYourRock His "primary lever" being that which extends from his centre of rotation i.e. vaguely from his neck to his left shoulder. This lever enjoys the full force of his torso to get it moving and the longer it is the more easily energy from the torso can be transferred to the secondary lever. This is simple mechanics; the same reason longer shafts hit further. The "secondary lever" is the shoulder to hands. This lever is moved/set-in-motion by the primary lever. The shaft is the final lever of course, released by the accelerated mass of the club-head. It could be argued a spine tilt weight shift is really the primary lever but for the sake of simplicity we should imagine a three lever system like the "Iron Byron". Davis Love was an exception to this generalisation, but his secondary lever went into the stratosphere thanks to moving his primary lever a long way back (big shoulder turn); his hands going way above his head compared to most. That gives extra time to gather speed on the downswing and extra help from gravity. There are some subtle nuances in there (mass, gravity, torque) but this simplified model explains Fred's ease at producing acceleration. I think it's a common misconception that turning the trunk through the shot is correct but in reality once the angles are fully open the trunk merely responds to the release, providing part of the "hitting post" at impact. The trunk shouldn't "spin/twirl"😜

@@RollYourRock Thanks Rock. I've found Chuck Quinton is absolutely the best around at pushing what I believe are the optimum fundamentals . He has lots of free content up on KZbin. He also owns one of the most beautiful swings you will ever see 👍

Hit the ball as hard as I can? Dang, I knew I was trying something wrong all these years hahaha
@RollYourRock2 жыл бұрын
Who would have thought!? Right?
@ikigai472 жыл бұрын
I'll never understand how his easy going swing is actually him "trying to hit it as hard as I can." You can tell when someone is trying to murder something (or so I thought), and this isn't what that looks like.
@RollYourRock2 жыл бұрын
I know exactly what you're saying. It's all about sequencing and applying pressure at the right time. Unfortunately most of us will never fully understand or experience the feeling. Unless you're especially gifted like Fred, you'll need professional help...
@ikigai472 жыл бұрын
@@RollYourRock - Honestly I don't believe him. I mean I do believe he's trying to hit it as hard as he can _while staying within his smooth swing and rhythm._ But there's a reason NO competition long ball hitters (guys that TRULY try to hit it as hard as they physically can like Kyle Berkshire) ever swing smooth like Freddie. Even pro players like Bryson DeChambeau. Now he is hitting it as hard as he physically can most of the time and you can see that clearly. Freddie to me is simply maximizing his own power while staying within himself. He is my favorite swing in golf of all time. It's one you can grow with into old age while not sacrificing much distance, it's perfect.

I doubt his back issues have anything to do with his particular golf swing. Some of us are just genetically predisposed to spine issues.
