I've seen some of the audition footage from 1956, about a year before Perry Mason debuted on CBS. Raymond Burr auditioned for Hamilton Burger, but then auditioned for the title role and nailed it.

Decades later the artist Alex Ross painted photorealistic comics featuring Captain Marvel and used Fred McMurray as the model. The resemblance is more noticeable.

I remember that back in 1973 there was a short lived series titled "The New Perry Mason," which starred Monte Markham as Perry Mason.

I heard the story about Captain Marvel. Some of us are more familiar with the 70s comics. One story is that Fred MacMurray balked at the workload required to play Perry Mason. We've heard about the special schedule he later got for My Three Sons. Raymond Burr lived in a bungalow on the Perry Mason set. The producers of his next series Ironside built one. But he said no. TV Guide once did an article about things supposedly set behind the scenes. One was that Burr spent so much time standing before juries. What if his next series allowed him to sit down? Yes, that line's not PC. Another asked if Kojak could do something like eat bon bons.

Fred McMurray would have been a great Perry Mason. But no one will replace Raymond Burr. VIDEO IDEA: Look into how My 3 Sons was shot. With Fred doing all his scenes first. So he could still shoot his movies or go play golf ⛳️ Quite interesting. Thanks Bob 😊

@ @johnmartin3200 Yup! The show went for 12 seasons. And no one caught on to how they did it. Until Steve remarried and gained a little daughter. They didn't give her fake teeth. She'd leave the kitchen with missing front teeth and walk into the living room and they'd be back. 😆 🤣 So, they finally had to say that's how they had done the show all along. 😁
