Simon @alwaysanotheradventure has done some great vids for us ‘older’ riders!

Yes I've seen 👍 Age is just a number and it feels very inaccurate when I'm on a good day! Thanks for reminding me about @alwaysanotheradventure 👍

I used the Zwift active offseason training plan followed by the Gran Fondo plan last year for the Fred. I am doing the same again this year. Seemed to work for me.

Bravo 👍 I need to stick to a plan that fits in with the rigours of life leaving enough left in the tank for the daily unknown.... not beast myself until the wheels inevitably fall off! See you at the Fred 👍 #FW2024

In the past I have methodically or even religiously stuck to training plans aiming for The Fred only for the wheels to fall off anyway. I have also just ridden The Fred as part of training for other events. This time, I am not sticking to a formal plan. That is not to say I don't know where I am going or what to do. More a case of the product of many years past training, and listening to my body combined with tracking training load and fatigue on TrainingPeaks/WKO. For instance, tonight I was going to do a VO2 interval session on Zwift, but I have a cold. So I am sacking that off, and I may doing some strength training or I may just do nothing and rest. We are all different. It's a case of finding what works for you. It is so so easy to overtrain, and then suffer the consequences. Better to slightly under train I think.

Wise words 👍👍 I couldn't agree more One of my Fred's was a warm up for something else and I was flying one week after. The videos are more what I do and not what to do as you know we are all different and have life's struggles to add to the mix! It's life training not just Fred training Chapeau 👍 #FW2024

The correct amount of rest can't be over emphasised, the older you get the more it matters, good-look with the plan.

Thank you... there's always a danger of me over doing it and riding every day and also doing my daily morning workout and boom 💥 the wheels fell off! With the danger of sounding blasé it's an exercise addiction that I have to keep in check but the Fred should hopefully refocus me and keep me on it Thanks for messaging 👍

@@simonthomas-lakedistrictveloI will be 68 yrs old this year so I think my chances of completing the "Fred" would be in doubt, I cycle now just to keep fit and healthy with weight training and walking but still do like to push a bit harder sometimes.
@simonthomas-lakedistrictvelo10 ай бұрын
Wow well done for keeping at it ..... I don't see an age limit on the Fred, maybe just maybe you could start building up to a 2025 entry!?

@@simonthomas-lakedistrictvelo I have thought about it but I live in London and trying to train correctly for the Lakes district hills would be difficult I think, I have tried simulating on the turbo but the real thing is so much harder.

good luck Simon, I'm doing 100 miles a week and some zone 2 training minimum of 30 mins per day! as too much high intensity training knocks your Vo2 Max for 6!! I also teach Judo twice a week so get the sit-ups and press-ups in warm up along with the Judo training. (I'm 61 btw!) using my Free Ranger mainly for the outside rides and my Specialized Allez on the Turbo trainer Zwifting.
@simonthomas-lakedistrictvelo10 ай бұрын
Thanks... that's sounds like a great plan. I'm not a fan of zone 2 because I get abit bored but I know the benefits. My Trainer Road plan has some and I struggle to hold back but it's great for your engine and reducing the fatigue. Sounds like your will be flying in May as your doing judo too! Chapeau 👏

@@simonthomas-lakedistrictvelo Yes I agree the urge to sprint especially in Zwift can be very tempting !

Overdid on the turbo and tweaked knee - so less can be more :-)

Oh nasty... I'm a stubborn (slow) learner with an internal battle always going on - Do More & No Days Off!! I haven't suffered any significant injuries from Turboing but do get a bad back after big efforts. I hope the knee sorts itself out with some rest , Bravo 👍 Thanks for messaging 🙏

Ive just completed my first week training for the Fred, all went well with it. No body workout stuff though. What app do you use for your workouts at home ? does it have the kettle bell exercises on there ?
@simonthomas-lakedistrictvelo10 ай бұрын
Well done 💪 I will share it either here if i can copy the detail's or maybe put a link in this week's video. I'm ticking down the days on Strava and it really doesn't seem that far away! Keep going and let me know how you get on 👍

@@simonthomas-lakedistrictvelo I’m hoping to do a training video this weekend. Got some new wheels coming as well for the event. Getting excited but also nervous.
