Great stuff Matt! Rickey Henderson used to hang way over the plate and he was a great hitter IMO. I've heard it explained that was to shrink the strike zone. Does that actually effect the umpires strike zone? Can you do a Rickey Henderson swing analysis?

Freddie Freeman has the most beautiful swing I’ve ever seen.

Very beautiful and productive swing but they have a few that’s more beautiful. I’m not saying not 1 thing bad about Freddy’s swing either bec he can Rake now and I mean rake… He’s one of my favorite players and what I love about him is that he doesn’t strike out much at all and he’s just a genuinely great guy and I think if the world had a lot more guy’s like Freddy, the world would be a hell of a lot better place, that’s for damn sure…

Matt what do you think about varying spine angle according to the pitch? Kinda makes sense to be upright for the fast ball up and over the plate low and away. Maybe kinda tough during the pitch but easier if you’re sitting on a specific pitch/count/situation.

exactly, the last thing you want to do is get in the same angle all the time, you cant adjust up after being in an early or constant posture but you can down. stay hips under shoulders until you set your angle to the ball based on pitch height. similar to a devers, bogarts or verdugo… if you are going to preset butt sticking out you better be setting for the highest pitch you are prepared to swing at… just my humble opinion

@@dfboiler yes I think that u need to be able to adjust spine angle according to the pitch

I would love to see an analysis of Salvador Perez and why he is able to hit balls, a lot of them home runs, that are way out of the strike zone both inside and outside. He kills the Tigers every time we play the Royals and neither I nor any of my friends can understand what how he expands the strike zone the way he does.

Very interesting - love Freddie. I really enjoyed this video on him too and now rewatching I noticed this part (kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHOqm3-Zg7mVgtk) where he actually gets after himself for bending, obviously relevant to the above. I suspect maybe that the bend you discussed above, or at least a portion of it, is part of his normal swing package (what he would actually call vertical) and he can sometimes push beyond that, which is what he was referring to (and you actually touched on, as well). Interested in any follow up thoughts if you want to share. Enjoy your baseball teaching - thanks for all the content.

Prettiest swing in the game along with Castellanos. You literally never see average height or short guys with his kind of almost uppercut swing.

Man, being a Braves fan from So Cal, its so difficult to watch Freeman in Dodger blue. I feel karma coming to my Braves if they have to go head to head.
