If trumpet players were gangsters,and trumpets were machine guns, Freddie would be Al Capone and Woody would be Elliot Ness .This is the stuff I live for .These are the last two heavyweight gangsters of all time.

Funny comparison....Freddie proves he cant invent what Woody came up with in concepts...but when motivated(Star studded line up) he can Sure Play Woody shit mixed in w Crazy Freddie stuff...maybe the Best solo Ive heard on Trumpet...It would make Clifford check it out!

I think Woody's chops betrayed him at times, listen to him here on KZbin on a track titled Vin and Vigor, that's him in top form

Good news bad news. Incredible!!!! Bad? Makes current stuff after Roy passed kinda hard to enjoy. Guess all art forms have golden ages that come and come to pass. Ty. Great clip.

Um...if u ve never heard Freddie Hubbard before...this would set Wynton back 20 years to the woodshed...I love all the guys in this ...its Mt Rushmore for that period..but on this particular date...Freddie knew who he was on stage with...went first and said F this and almost literally blew hs head off...maybe one of the most impressive Jazz trumpet solos Ive heard...whatever he was on that nite...I need a shipment of that directly to my door!

Why bring Wynton into any of this? Wynton freely admits that when he got to NY he got kicked in the ass. He tells the story of going into a session with Tom Brown thinking this Funking for Jamaica is going to be a joke. Someone called Stella and WM freely admits that TB handed him his ass in a plate. If Wynton spent half as much time as any of these cats he could play like this. He’s too busy composing and cultivating part of the next generation of world class cats.

I should add that Louis Hayes the drummer is one of the greatest around , and had no problem with bass players who doesn't rush like this one.
@flyingvguy6833 Жыл бұрын
yeah I'm sorry but he is rushing, and it affected Woody's solo.

It's not the drums that are rushy but the bass player , he was pretty inexperienced at that time.
