Freddie left most all of his fortune to Mary, and 75% of his royalties and his Mansion too. She was by his side from 1970 till he died in 1991. Freddie told Mary he was Bisexual, so they ended their engagement, but as I said they remained in love with each other and very very close till he died. He considered her his wife in every way.

Freddie wrote this song for Mary Austin, a woman he lived with for several years and was his best friend for the rest of his life. He is quoted as saying he considered her his common law wife. “All my lovers asked me why they couldn’t replace Mary, but it’s simply impossible,” Mercury once said of Austin. “The only friend I’ve got is Mary, and I don’t want anybody else. To me, she was my common-law wife. To me, it was a marriage.”

In his final days Freddie had one last request for Mary - and one she has followed to the letter. He asked that she alone must be the one to collect his ashes after his body was cremated.Freddie, then asked Mary to dispose of them in a private place and make sure no one ever found out where. For more than 20 years, Mary has never revealed Freddie Mercury's final resting place out of respect for the man she loved so deeply. He didn't want anyone trying to dig him up as has happened with some famous people."Fans can be deeply obsessive - he wanted it to remain a secret and it will remain so."Six years ago, when a plinth was built in Kensal Green cemetery, his fans believed this was where he was buried. The only clue Mary will give as to the location of Freddie's ashes is that he is not there. Not even his parents know where he is buried.

BTW… In current-day live Queen shows (since 2015, when Brian May & Roger Taylor tour w singer Adam Lambert as frontman)… This song is always performed by Brian May as a tribute to Freddie. Brian plays/sings the first part himself with the help of the audience… THEN, a larger-than-life Freddie (on a giant video screen) “walks out onstage” and leads the audience thru the last chorus. There’s never a dry eye in the house! It’s a wonderful tribute to Friendship (Brian still refers to Freddie as his “brother”).🫶

No piano just the acoustic guitar and Freddie’s vocals, the Acoustic guitar is a 12 stringed guitar which is unique as most Acoustic guitars have less strings , so this is also a testament to Brian May talent as a musician! Great reaction thanks 🙏

I went to see Queen in London this past June and I just had to visit Freddie's house. Mary still lives there. I walked down to the end of the tall brick wall and on the other side, a bird was singing in Freddie's garden. I decided that was Freddie welcoming me to his home and nobody can change my mind about that. 🙂

The video of this from Rock in Rio is my fave version of this. The Brazilian crowd of about 800k people know every word of this song and since it whole heartedly. As others have said, you must watch Queen at Live Aid. One of the best performances in music history. Another one to watch if you are looking for their influence on music to this day is from Green Day. They played Bohemian Rhapsody over the loud speakers while the roadies were setting up their gig and that young crowd sings every word and note. It's epic.

Far from what you thought, Mary and Fred were together from around 1970 and remained friends until he passed away, he left Mary most of his Estate including Garden Lodge where she still lives, they never stopped loving one another, and it was Mary who told him she thought he was gay, but they were a couple for at least 6 years, and Peter Fred PA has said and made a good point that this song appears more from her prospective, and the songs you've heard so far have been written by each member of the group, as all four wrote the songs, sometimes together, separately or pairs John Deacon on Bass invented an Amp which he and Dr Brian May (astrophysicist) would use Brian made his own Red Special Guitar back in 1963 with his dad from items around the family home, Fred was studying Graphic Design, and Roger Taylor Dentistry but swapped courses at university, where Roger and Brian were part of a group which Fred joined they became Queen in 1970 and then the four as we know it in 1971 as they tried a few Bassist before John came along

Deacon was only 19 when he joined. He was thinking of taking a break from bass to concentrate on his studies. He got A level in electrical engineering and joined the band as he was the peacemaker of the group so it worked. He had anxiety about performing as the audiences got so large but Freddie helped him through that as he was quite shy off stage as well. They were all great friends and musical geniuses. All 4 composed a Queen hit and all were inducted in the rock ‘n roll hall of fame for songwriting as well as performing. Freddie wrote 10 of their hits. They had 17.

That is a 12 string acoustic guitar. Most common guitars, as in folk-style music, have 6, 7 or 8 strings. 12 string is usually used in classical arrangements. "Love of My Life" live in Rio is a transcendent expression of love for Freddie by a crowd whose first language is NOT English.
@danjoda755 Жыл бұрын
Interesting observations Bonnie, but puzzling. I played acoustic and electric guitars for over 60 years, and never encountered a 7 or 8 string guitar. One variation I'm well aware of is that Keith Richards from the Rolling Stones sometimes had the low E string removed from his guitars, he liked playing on 5 strings. I've seen double and triple neck guitars, which are essentially novelty instruments. Also, I've never seen a traditional classical guitarist perform on a 12 string, I've only seen them used in the American Blues, Folk or Rock and Roll styles. In fact, you might not be aware of an American musician named Hudie "Leadbelly" Ledbetter (I might have to correct that spelling later, but Leadbelly is his commonly used stage name), considered to be the father of 12 string blues. If you have any videos you suggest I watch, please pass your suggestions along, I'd greatly appreciate it. Happy Healthy and Prosperous New Year to you and your loved ones. 😇🕊️🥂🍾

I really APPRECIATE a reactor who does research! “Officially”, Fred NEVER said what his songs meant, because he wanted listeners to ascribe their own meanings. But, yes… “Love Of My Life” was written for Mary Austin. The lyrics are from “MARY’S perspective”. …A song that Fred wrote for David Mann, the first fellow that Fred fell for (which brought about the end of Fred/Mary’s engagement): “YOU TAKE MY BREATH AWAY” The LIVE performance at HYDE PARK in 1976 is AMAZING. (David was in the audience. Fred was trying to “woo” him, thus a surprise performance.) Later on, Fred wrote: “I WAS BORN TO LOVE YOU” …which seems to have been for Mary. (The actress in the MV is basically MARY’S TWIN.😄) (NOTE: If you react to this song…. PLEASE react to Fred’s 1985 ORIGINAL from his Mr. Bad Guy solo album!! There’s a later (after 1991) posthumous Queen remix - the “altered” video for which is AWFUL. Fred’s original 1985 MV is MUCH BETTER.) …And yes, Fred/Mary were lifelong best friends. Fred left her most of his estate, inc his Garden Lodge home in London where she still lives. She’s also the ONLY person who knows where Freddie’s ashes are secretly interred. RE. THE BO RHAP FILM: It’s entertaining, but please note that it’s FULL of “artistic license” (ie factual INACCURACIES 😳😄). There are some really GREAT (free) documentaries on YT about Freddie’s life & Queen that are VERY well-done/totally worth watching… (Well worth reacting to, as well.)

Love the reaction!! 😊 Freddie wrote this song for Mary Austin as you mentioned, but it’s written from her point of view. They were a couple from 1970-1976 and were engaged, however Freddie started to come to grips with his sexuality and I believe it was mutual that they ended their romantic relationship, but he always loved her. When Freddie died, he left his estate to Mary and she is the only person who knows where his ashes are. They were lifelong friends even though she went on to have a family of her own. There are videos on KZbin of him playing with her baby. He may have been their godfather, but I could be wrong.

Loved your reaction. This is the best live band ever! You should check out Under Pressure Live at Wembley 1986 Saturday night performance. Btw, you've heard more Queen songs than the ones you mentioned. You just don't realize it. Their songs are played in a lot of commercials and films. I've seen people recommending their 20 min Live Aid performance, which is still today considered the greatest live rock performance ever. They played to a television viewing audience of 1.5 to 1.9 billion. It's something everyone should see at least once in their life. However, I think you will enjoy Live Aid even more if you listen to more live Queen performances first. Queen has so many great performances and hit songs. The more familiar you are with the band, the greater the experience will be for you watching Live Aid... and whatever you do, don't split up the performance. Watch their 20 min set as a whole so you can really feel what it was like to be there and experience the roller coaster of emotion with the crowd and the band. Also, if you watch the movie Bohemian Rhapsody, understand that the timeline and Freddie's character in the movie is a bit skewed for dramatic purposes. He was not diagnosed until two years after Live Aid and the band never broke up. An excellent factual documentary if you want accuracy is the Days Of Our Lives documentary but the BoRhap movie is entertaining, particularly if you don't know much about Queen. Welcome to the Queen rabbit hole! Queen does not disappoint!

Mary (his life partner), Jim Hutton (Fred's husband), and Peter Freestone (assistant & Freddie's close friend) were with him when he died. Freddie left almost everything to Mary because he said if he had been straight, he'd have married her and it would all be hers anyway. She still lives in his mansion (Garden Lodge) in London, and she still receives his royalties. Go watch the movie, but remember, a TON of things aren't true as they made the movie to make money. His overall true story would have been awesome but nowhere near as entertaining. He is a rock legend, but he always claimed he was extremely boring and quiet in real life. The rock star was his work persona and not actually 'him.' He claimed that Mary was the only person he ever let see the real Freddie Mercury.

Yes, it is commonly believed that Freddie wrote this for Mary Austin but the truth of who Freddie wrote this song for may never be known. He never said that he wrote it for Mary and Mary would tell anyone who asked that it was not written for her. Queen's manager John Reid said it was actually secretly written for someone else. John Reid revealed who the song was really about: 'Freddie actually wrote the song for David Minns. Freddie told me that, 'Love of My Life was for Minns.'" In 1975 when he wrote "Love Of My Life", Freddie had started dating his first proper boyfriend, David Minns, an American music executive with Elektra Records, the same year. Although they had to hide their relationship from the public, the Queen frontman bought them a flat to live in together. BTW - I loved the movie "Bohemian Rhapsody" but it is not a biography. The timelines in the movie are all mixed up, many incidents appear out of sequence, and some of the things shown in the movie never actually occurred (i.e. - Queen never broke up). The movie was written for entertainment, not to factually tell the history of Freddie and Queen.

You certainly enjoyed this version, BUT you really need to experience the studio version also, where Brian learned how to play the harp for Freddie (he is SO super-talented) and the harmonies that Queen are so endeared for are truly amazing... A NIGHT AT THE OPERA is so packed full of delicious little gems, like "The Prophet's Song" and "Seaside Rendezvous", well. actually ALL of them are... not to mention "Death on Two Legs" was one of Freddie's revenge songs to their previous manager who stiffed them and told them they would never amount to anything, thus the "butt bump" at the end of the song is Freddie's way of telling his ex-manager to kiss his behind... there are numerous videos (like at Live-Aid and all their concerts) where he will 'moon' the crowd... Thanks for a great reaction... blessings.

You should hear the album version - it was quite different... Freddie played the piano, and there was much more harmony... Brian May played not only guitar, but cello and HARP... worth a listen...

You should watch his Rock in Rio concert where over half a million people who didn't speak English sang it to him. in two days at that concert there were more than 1.5 million people. People as far as the eye can see.

when you watch the film, its mainly true but some of the time has been swapped around to make it fit. Brian and Roger were involved in the project and wouldnt pass it till it was up to standard. Its very raw.

This song done live in Rio is more amazing, the crowd didn't speak English but knew every word.

I'm an old woman, married to the same man for 30+ years, but my best friend is my other soul mate, but in a platonic way. This song always reminds me of her...and my hub, because he was/is also one of my BFFs. (Edited for clarity?)

No piano on this performance of Love Of My Life. Just Brian on a semi-12-string acoustic guitar, Freddie and a few thousand fans on vocals.
