Montserrat remembered to that night this way: "While he was singing, I noticed that his eyes were shiny with tears. I gave him my hand. He clasped it and kissed it. It was clear he was suddenly aware of his own fate. They were tears of farewell. It was his goodbye, at least to the stage." ♥

Hello Doe, from Seville, Spain. I have been seeing your reaction to this song and you are not the only one who is moved and tears fall. If a human being has a heart, it is normal to express feelings before such a wonderful interpretation and song perfect and after no longer having Freddie with us who died so young with so much talent and Monserrat a soprano with a voice that touches heaven. This song is sublime and Golden Boy is another masterpiece. Freddie with Queen demonstrated his great talent, but here with Montsi they go up a step together and take music to touch the sky together. You are a beautiful Englishwoman inside and out. Greetings from Spain, beautiful! I'm subscribing to your channel because you seem like a woman with a big heart and you're perfect for reacting to songs.

@marciebulsaraorcutt2 жыл бұрын
ohhhhhh boyyyyy.... As soon as Montsie started singing, my waterworks started. These lyrics are so significant: IDK how many people know that - at this time - Montsie was one of very FEW who knew of Freddie's terminal AIDS diagnosis. (He didn't tell his bandmates until 1989!) Mary Austin knew, I assume Jim Hutton and maybe Peter Freestone. (I’m sure someone else will know if this is right/correct me!) Montsie had been excited for the prospect of Fred & her singing "Barcelona" at the Barcelona 1992 Olympics… Fred confided in her that he wouldn't be able to perform with her, then... "because he would be no more" (as Montsie put it in an interview later). …And, they truly adored/respected each other! After Freddie was gone, Montsie was asked by other non-opera singers to do collaborations like she had with Fred... She turned them all down, because she said that "it would never be the same". When Freddie's statue was placed on the waterfront of Lake Geneva in Montreux, Switzerland, Montsie was there right next to Fred’s parents for the dedication ceremony. (My “mushy” emotional state today also has to do with it being my Mom’s birthday. We were BFs, I took care of her when she became unwell/she passed away back in 1995… Still feels like it was yesterday.)🫶

I was fifteen years old that day. I perfectly remember the excitement over the concert and the fact that the city was chosen for the next Olympic Games in 1992. That concert was celebrated for it. From the base of the Venetian towers I could see this masterpiece. Today, when I walk by the fountains I can feel the same magic as that day. I cried when Freddy died, for the end of Queen and for never seeing that duo again at the Olympic opening show with our Montserrat and our city in the background.
