The Last Leg | England to Sicily Road Trip Part Three
We left our overnight accommodation in Rome and headed off south to the town of Cosenza. On the way down we took the Bonneville of the trailer and rode into Naples for pizza.
And then onto the final stretch; the ferry from Villa San Giovanni to Sicily.

As a Neapolitan living in the UK I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay in Napoli! You've summarized it's unique qualities and quirks perfectly. You're basically surrounded by history and wonder almost everywhere, but everything is drowned in the utter chaos of the Neapolitans just being themselves and following their own rules

I, to this day, 10 years later, still feel my greatest achievement in life is returning a hire car to Naples airport after a week on the Amalfi coast and a few days in Naples, unscathed. Absolute bedlam. Wacky Races. Worst experience was 4 lanes of traffic on cobble stones with a tram line in the middle filter into 1 lane after traffic lights. Was just a race to get there first when they went green. Absolutely unreal.

I feel your pain Chris because we’re staying directly above a tram line here, and it is incredible watching the desperate attempts of gridlocked cars to clear the tramline before a tram arrives!

Pizza in Italy is a single serving. It's far, far healthier and lower calorie than the American style pizza you commonly get around the world. A fully loaded Italian pizza rarely goes towards of 1200-1300 calories, while a large pepperoni from dominoes is around 2700, for reference

Respect for joining downtown Naples traffic! It took me a bit to convince myself to rent a Vespa when I was down there. But it‘s the best way to explore that wild hilly city. For anyone reading this about to ride a motorbike in Napoli: be sure to ride in the direction of Posilippo as well. Wonderful curvy roads traversing the city with amazing views of the bay , islands, volcano … Insider Tip: grab some finger food/drink and take it along to Belvedere di Sant'Antonio a Posilippo for an evening snack or dinner. Wonderful view and an adventurous switchback road down the hill when you leave. (no tables)

Great film. I must be getting old because travelling through Italy looked like hard work. I think Lake Como would have been far enough for me, but it'll be getting cold there soon so I can see why you pushed on south. The British view of Sicily is coloured by watching Inspector Montalbano every week: it's based in small-towns and the countryside and looks gorgeous. Palermo, by contrast, looks like my idea of urban hell (but nice apartment!). Montalbano's house is in a small coastal village called Punta Secca and is now a bed & breakfast. If you have time, see if you can spend a night there, it would make a great episode. Buona fortuna!

Yeah crazy road manners including (in Sorrento) a family of 4 on a scooter dad driving with a boy in front of him a mama clutching a small child on the pillion. Followed by a guy transporting a long wardrobe door (maybe 8'?) positioned sideways (the door, not him), plus the usual melee of scooters and mopeds undertaking and overtaking, no helmets, no protective gear. Endless fun. Main danger to cars is people shunting yours back and forwards to get into 'their' space. Park judiciously! Great flat in Palermo - superb.

Wow Palermo. I was last there 15 years ago visiting my in-laws. I stayed for a month in a small town called Santo Stefano De Camastra in Messina. I also stayed at the Grand Hotel. Miss lounging out at the cafe's with family and friends. I remember the food ( Pasta ) and Sword fish was amazing no matter where you ate at. The Sicilian hospitality is unlike any other. I think the only thing I was disappointed in was their breakfast offerings. I'm a big breakfast NY kind of guy and a pastry with espresso drove me crazy after just one week. I missed my full size cup of coffee and big hot breakfast platter. lol Your video has me thinking, It's time to go back.

So jeaulous when I see these videos. The interior is probably all Sicilian ceramics, make sure to visit some of the towns where they sell them. They are Burgio, Caltagirone, Patti, Santo Stefano di Camastra and Sciacca. Driving in Italy is crazy indeed, the more south you go the less the lines on the road have meaning and listen for the horn music as you stop to let a pedestrian cross. It's simply not done there 🤣 Keep making these videos and living the life mate. Hope you have a glorious a stay as I did several years back. Can't wait to buy my own Triumph and do some road trips myself.

Hi , great riding through the traffic , to a pizza the size of a bed size table . Bon journo , usually means a payment for parking please , look out for Pinocchio , he will want a large coffee for security parking so nothing gets stolen . We only did that route once in in a 49 TON VOVO once , then changed to the east side of Italy , far less traffic ,although a little longer , down to catch the ferry to Malta , across into Sicily , load 50 tons of fruit , back in to Malta , back to Toranto , to load grapes for the UK . It is a magic place down the south , have fun and enjoy . Thanks for your video .😃

What an incredible trip that must’ve been! We’re deciding what route to take back on the return trip, so very good to know the east is quieter🙂 I was a bit nervous of what may happen if I didn’t pay the security money… I didn’t pay in the end and luckily all good! Although everyone who turned up to park seemed to have a one minute negotiation with the man patrolling

Palermo is the most decadent and scary city I've ever been to. Including places way outside Europe. I was held up at gunpoint and robbed, at midday, walking by the sea. I told the police. They shrugged and asked what did I want them to do. There's a sense of restraint in the north of Italy that reduces the further south you go. I lov the south of Italy; the people I met there were great. Just don't drive there or expect anything other than chaos.

Great channel, great journey! I've driven from the UK to Malta, thankfully taking the ferry from Genoa to Sicily. Are you planning on popping over to Malta, lovely architecture, a mix of Italian, British and Arabic influences. Perhaps not as chaotic as driving in Italy though road signs tend to be treated as mere suggestions and you will likely come across cars and motorbikes from the 1970s in immaculate condition. Driving with familiarity on the left, I think both you and Monica would enjoy it. Definitely worth a visit having come so far!

Another great video, with some lovely sites, great editing too Monika. I honestly don't know how to drive or ride the bike in Italy. I drove there once and never again, thanks for sharing your experiences.

So nice following you along on this trip😀 I was actually in Naples a few months back and would not have wanted to ride my motorbike there 😅. Amazing country, enjoy your time in Sicily!
