@@johnconnor210 You can take any young fit boy and give them game time... They will have the same stats as Adu. Surround them with pro players and they will generally fit in a team.. till they are exposed as being clearly not cut out for the sport. What has Pele got to do with anything? He was a Brazillian born in Brazil playing for Brazil. Not a Ghanaian that somehow miraculously got a visa 'lottery' and a multi million pound football contract even when it turns out he was not any good.. Too suspicious.. but they won in the end. Look at the Premier League.. look at what football has become.

@@Argooh any fit teen can become a pro. Then how come u never played pro sports if that all it takes. Look I'm not a big adu fan I just thought it was impressive that he was able make a pro league at a young age. I mean u know how hard it is to become a pro athlete. I've seen really good athletes never make it. Wither ur a fan of him or not to say that what he was able to do at 15 wasn't impressive is ignorance. Yes I know his talent never manifested but that's besides the point. My point about pele to combat your statement about him making it strictly to have a black star in soccer when their has been pleanty of black stars in the game just not black Americans. Let's face facts if you were to play this man in a game of one on one he would destroy you. When it comes to pro sports theirs no such thing as a bad player their just different levels of talent.

If he’d gone to Europe earlier and left the US circus, he would have developed the tactical knowledge and understanding that he was lacking at 19. Playing men’s football at 14 lost him years of specialist coaching.

He bares the heavy burden of saving a bad MLS team in the Philadelphia Union. There's a cap salary cap on "domestic players". So Adu wasn't getting paid much but he was taking up that cap space. So he got cut for not taking a pay decrease. That was the last time he was in form but the stats to come with won't show on a bad team. He's always been a playmaker not a scorer. Sub-par players blew a lot of chances he created. Maybe the burden of that got to him.

Project Soccer You say to-may-to I say to-mah-toe, is it the chicken or the egg. He's had coaches fired on him and to the best of my knowledge Rui Costa was one of few if not his only mentor. I believe he got discouraged because he got bounced around so much.

All the right physical attributes (ok, minus the height, but he could have made it without it), great technique and finishing!
