Freddy Fender was a Mexican-American Country & Western singer/guitarist who had massive success in the mid-70's. In his later years he was a member of the Tex Mex super group the Texas Tornados.

Freddy Fender, with someone I always thought was overlooked for the range of his talent. I think you both would enjoy his work as part the Texas Tornados, in particular “Who Were You Thinking” is amazing.

Freddy was from Texas, which has its own sub-genre called Tejano music. It’s influenced by traditional Mexican Folklore, Country-Western, and German Polka (due to early German settlers in Texas). Much of the lyrics were performed in mostly Spanish, though the artists were bilingual native Texans. The most famous Tejano artist is Selena Quintanilla; but Freddy was quite embraced by Tejano fans, in his time.

Freddy sounds a bit like Roy Orbuson to me. My high school spanish language teacher would play thus one along with Vicki Carr "Eres Tu" (there is you ). Thanks .
