Finally after a couple years I get to review one of the most mysterious, powerful, and notoriously expensive OUD perfumes in my collection, Frederic Malle The Night by Dominique Ropion! On this No Hype review I’ll break it down for the curious as well as answer the most common inquiries regarding this fragrance. Enjoy!

Great review! I haven't tried this but I have The Moon (which I love) and Portrait of a Lady (love it but is a tad austere). René (MrZayas81) said it was like POAL with Indian out, but he also raves about the Xerjoff attar Warda Al Oud, which I have. It is all subjective, but Warda al Oud is a real bruiser. One drop and you're enveloped in room filling Cambodian Oud, rose and musk for an eternity. Can smell it for days on my clothes even when I just put a few drops behind my ears and on my neck. Another Oud banger is Fragrance du Bois Borneo Oud, which is pure Borneo Oud in alcohol. Amazing! It is a kind of fizzy gingerly and whiskey Oud with dark chocolate and floral undertones. Probably my most amazing frag out of 65 niche fragrances.

This is really amazing oud banryard for sure, longevity is huge but not beast fragrance, here in Germany doesn’t matter how you explain the people about oud they just don’t like it, and for 100ml 1340$ is really so pricey but I love it, i enjoy it and have some backups 😊, and nothing smells like the night.

I own 250ml flacon of this juice and have a bit of experience with real oud (Areej le dore, Bortnikoff). Few things I would like to say. Compared to Bortnikoff or Areej le dore I think lower quality oud was used in The night. That being said, Ropion is higher tier perfumer than both Russian Adam or Dimitri. So it kinda almost evens out. Even so, for my personal taste with the same amount of money I would rather take 2-3 Bortnikoffs over one bottle of The Night if oud is your main focus. Over all I think Bortnikoff brings more to the table for less money. Still it's magnificent fragrance, and was one of the kings of oud/rose combo for many years and still worth a try. The only thing that has changed is better competition in the indy/artisanal part of fragcom.

I like both Areej and Bort… in my opinion once u go down that route, rose ouds will be the thing of the past… just because the artisanal perfumes are in a world of their own and because these guys Areej Bort and even Ensar run their own show, they are more flexible with taking risks and trying everything. I don’t think I’m there yet because I try so many perfumes but yeah that’s my 2 cents.

Hey Troy! Thank you for your awesome review! Been following ya since i first caught on your reviews on Roja's line of Aoud parfums. How would you compare between the oud here in The Night and Roja's OG Aoud? Cos I love Roja Aoud, so I'm wondering if The Night's oud is up my alley, or a totally different beast altogether? Honestly that’s the one thing I haven’t tried… and on that last order I punched in the Harrods Aoud instead of Aoud :) theoretically though this should be a different beast.

❤Thanks dor this great review. I own 100ml, yes 100ml💯😎😍my first epiphany as you described. I have only sprayed it a few times, as it is way to strong for normal day to day usage . Will take some getting used to. The opening is loud and off putting to someone not used to this type of fume, but it mellows over time and the beautiful turkish rose comes through and lasts for ever on clothes.

I just tried a decant of this - it’s the best perfume I’ve ever smelt, BUT, it’s light on me and zero barnyard. I believe I received the newest version. I would like the untamed older version much more I suspect. Stunning though.

I've got a dupe and my experience is similar. The dry down was better but the opening lasted for an hour. Made my Partner gag lol
