I believe Paul Rogers was quoted as saying bands like Free and Raspberries were the rockin’ American response to all the Progressive Rock that was coming from the UK. I remember all the rich kids who used to smoke pot and listen to Prog all day. Loved this band and later Bad Company.

In 1970 my friend and I where walking on the beach. it was a fabulous sunny summers day. All Right Now was playing on a radio. We where young confident and on the prowl and we soon spotted two gorgeous girls. One blonde the other had long dark hair. I said to my friend "I'll take the one with the dark hair." How smug where we when we where young eh?😀 We clicked right away and eventually I married her. I'm 75 now and every time I hear that song it takes me right back to that day.😀

I agree Paul Rogers has a superb blues/rock voice. However James Dewar (Robin Trower Band) was a beautiful blue eyed soul/blues/rock singer. Understated with a drop dead gorgeous tone. Look him up singing “about to begin”. Superb lyrics to boot!!

@danabuch324 8 ай бұрын
@@gawnmcilwaine2896 Yes, but he didn't have the range Paul has. Listen to "Laying Down The Law" when he was with the group The Law. Try singing it. I was in a band. I could sing James Dewar/Robin Trower stuff easily. I had to start so low trying to sing Laying Down The Law because he goes up about four octaves and I almost couldn't talk after singing the high parts. A great album almost no one knows about.

Gregg Allman is the greatest white male blues singer. Love both Rodgers. However, I can’t even compare Free to the ABB
@danabuch324
@danabuch324 7 ай бұрын
@@cindyinnew You are correct about not comparing the two bands. Free was blues and rock at its base/core. As raw as it gets. The opium of those types of music. Four guys, most times only three playing an instrument. I love Gregg Allman and preferred his solo version of Midnight Rider. But he didn't have the vocal range of Paul Rogers and the Allman Brothers band was six guys, sometimes more, all playing instruments.

Best single ever. Any band, any era. Wore out my first copy - looked around for months to replace it!!! Eventually found an ex-JukeBox copy with the middle punched out. Prized possession ✊🏼

I taped this off TOTP back then, and played it constantly. I could weep for those years, no one except our generation will ever know what 70-75 was like, and it was all thanks to guys like this.

My, how we've all changed. My hair was near my waist in those days. Now I'm near 70 years old and almost bald. I can still appreciate the music, though.That will never change.
