Good Mechanics need heat. Tools don't rust and bones don't creak. I stay very warm in my 3200 sq. ft. shop with my good old used 1986 vintage $1600. "Craigslist find" AH 86 140k btu Clean burn Waste Oil burner furnace. It's been very reliable. It takes a little tinkering to keep the performance up. Every now and then it quits I have to figure out why. I've recently had the burner serviced, but now the local dealer says it's too old to support anymore. They want to sell me a new Clean Burn unit for $ 7500. owch!. No thanks ! This one is very old, but burns real clean and works great. It is very basic, no computers, and barely any electronics at all. Outlet temps are 350-400 'f average depending on fuel type. It will raise the temp inside the shop 10'f an hour. I usually set it 58-60'f, or I get too hot. On a really cold day, say an unusually cold 20'f winters day it runs a lot and uses about 1 gallon per hour of oil. If it's 50'f outside I don't use it at all. But if it's 42'f and raining outside, it is SO nice to have some heat ! It's not realIy FREE heat like the ad's say, but close, I love it.

I had those at my old shop, they put off some heat, We had 6 of them. Once in awhile one would clog up and stop working (They would start to bang) We used to get real bad loads of used oil because at Toyota alot of people did not change their oil much, alot of engines were changed due to lack of oil changes and sludge. Sure that is a topic if debate, Toyota and sludge, Lack of Oil changes, or engine design! I say lack of oil changes did it.

Add 1 quart acetone to that 55 gal tank- drastically lengthen necessary cleaning intervals and severity thereof. No "mixing" required.

+HUBBABUBBA DOOPYDOOP good idea. I do add gasoline on a regular basis, seems to keep it clean. Although, it does not like to burn straight gas. I hope it flushes carbon build up from the oil heating block.

2stroketurbo *ACETONE* is an *_organic_* solvent. In a vehicle, year around- add 1 oz. per gallon of gasoline to keep combustion chamber, plugs, and valves clean. The burning characteristics of *acetone* will also help the O2 sensor stay clean longer. Kleen-Strip is the best brand- *DO NOT* use "nail polish remover" that contains gelatin, lemon extract, and other stuff. Acetone is usually ~$8 USD per qt.

The place I get my annual inspections done at uses a waste oil burner. He also does the absolute cheapest oil changes in the area. He keeps the waste oil to heat his shop, so all he charges for is the new oil and filter. No labor.

Great job but my question is do i need to put an air solonoid valve to cut the air supply to run with the thermostate temp i mean once its shutdown when reaching the thermostate temp regulator then when the temp drop down and start again , regards ..
@2stroketurbo
@2stroketurbo 9 жыл бұрын
Nope, thermostat shuts off the oil supply, air is constant but only injected when oil pump runs

That's an excellent unit you have, old but serving the purpose. Saves having to store then dispose of waste oil. I always wondered what happened to fuel that has been accidentally mixed (diesel into gasoline and vice-versa) have you any idea what they do with it ?
@2stroketurbo
@2stroketurbo 10 жыл бұрын
Yes, when you add gas or diesel to waste oil it burns very nice, the ratio has to be more oil vs. fuel or boom-boom

It is clean in the sense that there is complete combustion of the oil and there is no soot or carbon monoxide (A gas that kills you) Instead its oxidized into water and carbon dioxide (A greenhouse gas) Ultimately your still puting carbon in the air, and thats "bad for the environment" Not instantly but that shit adds up. But at least your doing something useful with burning that oil and not idling in a parking lot texting someone or something.

I'm curious as to how much oil it goes through a season?
@2stroketurbo
@2stroketurbo 4 жыл бұрын
It Burns about a gallon an hour when it's really cold. If it's a really cold long Winter let's say 4 months I can go through 300 gallons. Most the time on warm winters I go through about a 100 gallons

It's not as clean as you think proof of that is being show at the exhaust stack.THAT BLACK Matter is called P.M. Particulate matter. It is unburnt oil This is the reason for DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTERS.Just a FYI

@apacheone3643
@apacheone3643 6 жыл бұрын
Les Berdine Efficient I know burning OIL IS EFFICIENT TO A POINT. Also Any oil burner without a DPF FILTER You are pumping CARBON MONOXIDE (CO) AND PARTICULATE MATTER (UN BURNT OIL) into the ENVIRONMENT! I am willing to bet if I check to see how much you are pumping out with my CO METER you will not be saying clean burn just on that reading.
