Allen Collins (RIP) was highly underrated as a guitarist.

Love that I see someone recognize them. My favorite band..ed king and Steve Gaines were the strat guys and Allen Collins had the Eric Clapton vibe and soulful Gary. Legendary triple guitar line up

Seen Allen play the lead lick for Free Bird when they played as the underdogs early 70's.nearly 45 minutes / hour ! Last song played during this show ... Awesome show

All good guitarist as is Gary Rossington. Ed king played the S.H.Alabama lead in a video of the band here on you tube. Fabulous. I believe it was titled Interview with Lynyrd Skynyrd. Worth watching.

Nice, relaxed, easy listening commentary and explanation. Extremely accessible and very very interesting. I'm coming from blues - suddenly I'm playing rock lead, totally different feel and phrasing, not at all what I'd been playing (half baked) to this old classic. I'm subscribed, thanks Mike for giving your time and benefit of hours of background stuff. And like the guy said, next time (if/when we start gigging again) they yell "Freebird" . . . !

I appreciate the Freebird lessons so many guitarists provide. One thing that bothers me is that for people trying to learn the lead note for note, why are so many riffs NOT played on the same strings/frets that Allen and Rickey actually play them? Thanks. And looking forward to more great tutorials!!

That one unison bend lick at fret 22, is a good example of why I like having 22 frets instead of 21. Hard to get some of these up to speed! Fun song to freestyle jam to. Helps to use Skynyrd style licks however. The slide part is in std tuning and is not hard to play. Yell "Freebird" and I'll be more than happy to play it. lol

I need your help senpai. Everytime I bend the three thinnest strings I tangle my fingers under the next upper one making me fk up the bend and it's just terrible in general idk what to do anymore bends are killing me.. Is it cause I have pretty thin fingers or am I just bad
@JosephWheeler146 жыл бұрын
Chaotic Neutral just arch your fingers more so that your nail is perpendicular to the string above it, instead of parallel.

UmbraFractus Kirk has always extensively made unique use of pentatonic playing. He’s always gave it a very 80s shred flair though. Ride The Lightning through to And Justice while still have plenty of pentatonic leads, also branches out to more complex stuff.

Just learn one of the licks and play it over and over for four minutes and it'll sound just like Free Bird.
@Butts6666 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Not sure why that solo is so popular, it's extremely repetitive, not very original and literally the only thing it has going for it is its substantial length, which, given the repetitiveness, is not necessarily a good thing.
@taylortripp85986 жыл бұрын
