Not paying for your own lands makes sense. Anything else, no I wouldn't fall into the trap of giving up freedoms to get something. That also makes no sense. Stick together and say no to paying anything except normal national park entrance fees.

good for you on looking to nutrition to help with physical ailments. I was diagnosed with MS 18yrs ago and took a hard right turn on how I ate. I am now med-free (thanks goodness as they were thousands each month), neurologist says If she didnt' know better she'd say I don't have it. Lowered my stress level and removed processed food, increased my activity. Life is good and Im grateful every day for finding what works for me.

I love finding old places of the past. Love to imagine the goings on there when it was in it's prime. About the people who held those old broken bottles. Drinking from that bottle and being refreshed from its contents. I found an old broken arrowhead while digging in my garden one day. It literally sat me down and I was blown away at the thought of it. The hand that made it. Was it used to kill an animal that fed a family. What they were like. The fact that my hands were holding it now so long after. And that my ass was sitting on actual ground that those who made all that possible lived. You can really take a deep dive into things. And it really throws reality into your face. In a good way. It makes me wonder the future finders of things of us. Thanks for a great video Carolyn! Boops for Sadie! 😎✌️🐾

heck yeah!! I think the piles of rubble were the sewer pits, if you notice in the picture all the buildings were up on stilts I'm wondering if the sewer system they put in was just pipes sitting on the ground running over to the deep holes, and where you thought was someone digging might just be a small cave in where the ground wasn't compacted well enough, pretty cool history.

Sadie has such a regal head and profile. She always reminds me of those ancient Egyptian sculptures and drawings of the dogs with Nefertiti or Cleopatra and such. In an unrelated subject...I was just wondering if you ever worried about possibly being on grounds that might have once been used for nuclear blast testing, etc.? Are areas like that clearly marked, or are some and not others? I've always wondered about that, especially after learning that so many movie folks who filmed in areas like this out west died of cancer. Susan Hayward and John Wayne were two, but there were many other actors and crew members later associated with specific atomic blasts and movies bring shot who died. Susan Hayward's biography tells how they'd all go out to watch the day's blast after their day's filming. They called the wind that blasted out in the afternath of the mushroom cloud 'Dirty Harry'. I also wonder if the current cases of Valley Fever in people and pets are some aftereffects of those atomic testing days. I know they warn you not to disturb the soil too much in certain places or let pets dig there. I figured you might know all about the areas of concern out there.

Found your channel a couple months back and have been enjoying catching up. I grew up In Michigan (and Canada), and moved to California for 25 years. San Francisco for ten years lived north for a while but then lived with my brother on and off in Morongo Valley near Joshua Tree for years, lots of time in Palm Springs with my parents, now I’m in upstate New York. Guess I’m a nomad of sorts just not on wheels. So anyway have been enjoying your stories and your videos of Joshua Tree and Michigan. Thanks 🙏

I lived in the Desert for 20 years. Palm Springs, Desert Hot Springs, Yucca Valley, we would visit Joshua tree often. The trees are Palo Verde trees. They can grow into beautiful large trees if they are watered regularly but out in the desert they can look like big bushes. For the meet eaters at Joshua tree Saloon they have the best grass fed Burgers it’s a fun bar to visit. The town of Joshua tree is a fun little funky town.

Hey there. As a mom of a neurodivergent child and someone who is neurodivergent themselves I just wanted to say that it has been disproven than changes in diet, specifically removing gluten and dairy among other things, has an effect on autism or adhd. Autism is a neurodevopmental disorder and it is not known what causes it but is suspected to be genetic. Adding more nutritionally dense food to your diet is good for everyone 😊 Just wanted to throw that out there. I love your videos and following along with your adventures!

Hi Carolyn, thank you for a great video and tour of the desert. Also, I love how you filmed yourself working in your campervan, with the music and overhearing your videos which I assume you were editing at that point. I am supposed to be gluten free and gave up with all the 'fancy' gluten free 'flours' that were expensive. However, my favourite is GRAM FLOUR also known as Chick Pea flour. Just add water to the flour in a clean jam jar, give it a good shake, pop into the fridge for an hour or so (important to create a good batter) then fry in coconut oil. Just before frying you can add savoury things like salt, tumeric, ground coriander and my favourite, cumin seeds. Alternatively you can add sugar and pinch of cinnamon. These are called GRAM CAKES but they are like pancakes. I usually serve them with a home made curry but try them with a little sugar if you like and see if you like them. Gram (Chick Pea) flour is relatively cheap compared to all the other gluten free flours, at least in the UK they are. I have problems with most seeds in foods and was told it's likely to be the pesticides (and processing) which inflames my already delicate digestive tract. It's good to go to rivers after heavy rain, and when the excess water has dispersed as it churns up the river bed and reveals some treasures in the way of old pottery. I expect the original dwellers of the desert left no trace. Peace be with you. It's always a pleasure listening to you on your videos Carolyn xxx. My very best wishes to you. Louise in Lancashire, England xxx

Most laws recognize degrees of impact. Driving 50 over the speed limit has very different consequences than driving 5 over the limit. What is really ridiculous about this over-encompassing law (and the irony) is that a big production company can afford all these hoops while causing the most devastation to the park. Whereas a single person recording with a hand-held cell phone makes no impact and has to pay a disproportionate fee. Sometimes logic leaves the building.

Maybe, they don't 'want' more people coming to the parks. More people = more trash, noise, conflict, wear-n-tear, vandalism, etc. If nobody comes, then the rangers and staff can keep the wilderness and solitude for themselves! Just a thought. 🤔

Those were the days when Coke really tasted good. When I was a kid you could get a bottled Coke in a cooler that looked like a chest freezer. It was filled with cold water and lots of bottles of Coke. All bottles were returnable for a refund. We used to go around the neighborhood with our wagons and collect bottles. That’t how we got money for our penny candy. Good memories.

FYI There's no "cure' for autism. I'm on the spectrum and have two children who are too. Being neuro diverse is our biggest strength and just how our brains work. There's challenges interacting with a world that's set up for neuro typical's, for sure. We don't need a healthy diet anymore than anyone else does. Our bodies behave in the way. You put the right stuff in and it works properly, you don't and the body struggles, simple. Really caught me off guard too hear you say that Carolynn. Thankfully people are generally better informed these days.
