the unknown thing in the glove compartment is a soda bottle resealer stopper. you can save some of that rc for later. my neighbor had one of these when I was growing up. got rides to school on bad days. however, it was very cold natured and would not stay running. she would race up the engine and pop it into gear with the push button shift, only to have it jump and die again. they were very proud of this car and it was pretty nice. in the summer, we could not roll down the windows because we wanted people to think we had a/c. times were tough in Alabama back then.
@Sleeperdude2 жыл бұрын
Ok thank you. That’s funny you kept the windows up
@tdtvkc12 жыл бұрын
Back when I was a kid you usually had to split a soda or pop or whatever, so those resealer stoppers would go on an old glass bottle and keep the fizz in while it waited in the icebox for somone to come and drink it. Getting to enjoy a whole soda by yourself was a treat and rarity. Oh and with our RC's we had moon pies.

I absolutely think the world of you and your family and the way that you pull together and do these projects. I come from old fashioned ways in the mountains of West Virginia. I go to an old fashioned Pentecostal Church and where I live is a way up in a holler in the mountains with my beautiful wife and two beautiful kids and I also take care of an elderly mother who is bed fast. Those "fins" on the wiper arm were intended to apply more pressure to enhance the wiping of the glass using the wind while driving. They didn't really work very well, in the horizontal position as they tended to lift the blade off during the traversing of the arm to the vertical position. They were more for an athletically pleasing look than functional. Love the car!

@@macmanjimmy69 The wiper fins are on backwards. Everyone used to fit them the way they are on, but as the wiper goes up, the fins need to be facing withthe flats to teh front so the wind pinned the wipers to the screen. Not many people fitted them correctly. They did work well when put on right. lol
@smartestpersonontheplanet74672 жыл бұрын
Well don’t explain another thing. An equity true version was the one I heard. Growing up at the time my dad came back from spring inspection with these things attached to the wiper. Looked different from the ones you had. Different company? But in the “My car has more chrome than your cat” era the shiny chrome windshield wipers would reflect directly into an on coming vehicle temporarily blinding the driver. So now all wiper arms are black.

Well, you can't do better than free and it was the right thing to do to give them something for it. And yes that is a 1964 Plymouth Fury it has that distinctive body style. When I bought my first car when I was 19 the dealer had one of those on his lot but wanted too much for it so I ended up buying a 1966 Dodge Dart Gt for $1050. Also check the transmission, the Volare/Aspen cars that this engine likely came out of used a 3 speed OD standard transmission that was floor shift. Yep. Been a long time since I've seen those fins on the wiper arms. Like a person said below, they were designed to hold pressure on the arms as the wipers operated. On older vehicles manufactured from the 1970's to the mid 1980's, speed limits on highways were only 55mph. Once the interstate highway speed limits were raised back to 65, the wiper blades would tend to bounce across the windshield at those higher speeds because of the wind resistance interacting with the arms and the factory springs didn't seem strong enough to hold the blades down. We never used them but I remember for awhile our old Chevy trucks and Suburbans had that issue of the blades bouncing across the windshield at higher speeds or high winds.

It's a '64 Plymouth Savoy. They just say "Plymouth" on the sides instead of Belvedere or Fury. It's the base model of that body so it doesn't have the fancier trim of the Belvedere or the Furys. They're really good cars. My uncle had a '64 Belvedere with the poly 318 and my dad had a '63 Belvedere with the same engine. Well worth fixing up for a driver. The blue valve cover makes me wonder if the engine has been replaced with a later one from the 70's. Some Slant Sixes had what they call either a HyperPak or a Super Six. If I have another slant six car, that's how I'd want to set it up.

The Plymouth's look very much like Australian Valliant's. My mom use to have 1963 Plymouth Sport Fury Convertible when I was a kid. The shifting was done by buttons on the dash. Those buttons were crap, and they would break off sometimes getting stuck inside the dash. Be glad you didn't get one of those, as you'd probably have a hard time getting replacement parts.

That’s a cool car, my dart wagon is push button
@storbokki3712 жыл бұрын
@@Sleeperdude I hope you never have the same problems we did. The buttons would sometimes push beyond the dash panel and drop down behind it. You couldn't get out of that gear until you fished the button back up and pressed another to get it to pop out. Don't get me wrong, I loved that car. It's probably the one car our whole family most enjoyed. Make sure you wear a mask when dealing with rat droppings. It's really a bad idea to breath the dust from it. Very unhealthy. from the CDC: "People get Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS) when they breath in hantaviruses. This can happen when rodent urine and droppings that contain a hantavirus are stirred up into the air. People can also become infected when they touch mouse or rat urine, droppings, or nesting materials that contain the virus and then touch their eyes, nose, or mouth"

Another great car grab, the dashboard on the Plymouth is very cool. Excited to see this one get cleaned up and running. As always loved seeing the Family in church and you on the drums. Beautiful family, fun to watch the car adventures. Thank you for sharing.

The round thing with the little metal thing attached is a cap for a soda bottle. If you didn't want to drink the entire bottle put that cap on and it will keep the fizz in to rest of the bottle.

The little metal bracket attached to the white ceramic with the red rubber ring where used to clip on and seal up glass bottles. We had them for glass soda bottles.

Here in Kentucky. Our saying is the RC Cola and a Moon Pie., A couple of counties east of me in Winchester KY is Ale8One country. I was kind of curious if the Ale8One drinks had expanded into Tennessee. Speaking of Vienna Sausages,, I remember that around here a few years ago, That there used to be a larger sized can of Vienna Sausages that had around twice as many sausages as the regular sized cans. It seemed like that the fuel stops used to sell them in their grocery store section inside. I’m looking forward to seeing the Slant 6 running in your upcoming video. The state highway department repair facility where I retired from used to have a good number of the Dodge pickup trucks that had basically the same engines that visited our facility for maintenance. We used to have a stack of brand new exhaust manifolds due to the manifolds being prone to cracking. Those engines were not very powerful, But they were very reliable and very economical to operate.

hehe, yep... saw it coming...(I have a '67 New Yorker) I think that's a Savoy, Belvedere had some chrome, and they really piled bling on the Fury (like in the brochure). Family car when I was a kid was a 4 door Belvedere sedan, same colour scheme as that one (white on blue), 318 with a push button transmission. Enjoy your channel, and looking forward to seeing that unit run...cheers!

I had the same car...If you find an early 70's full size mopar take the whole front clip engine steering column, etc...it will all bolt in...instant v8, disc brakes, power steering and such. Get the rear axle and drive shaft...it all bolts right in. Bolt on hot rod!

that leaning tower of power will run again, no doubt, the car looks solid, I had a 1979 aspen wagon with a 10 bolt factory posi, complete with woodgrain on the sides. and a 1976 aspen 4 door. They run forever

1964 Savoy 4-Door Sedan (production of 51,024 units)...last model year that Plymouth did not have a smaller "mid-size" car like the 1964 Chevelle and 1964 Fairlane. And it was a heavily restyled version of the 1962 Plymouth which was a sales disaster. In 1965, Plymouth finally had a full-size car (119 inch wheelbase) called the Fury I, II, III, and Sport Fury to compete with Chevrolet and Ford...and this body style on the shorter 116 inch wheelbase became Plymouth's new mid-size car called the Belvedere with a slightly different front end.

Back in High School we had a guy that had a '64 Fury with the 383 and duel 4's .... so the story goes, he would race around with his bud who had a Chevy nova II that had a 283 with 3 two barrels... it was very light car and very fast. 40+ years ago now....God bless.

Some people put those things on the wipers as bling, but their real purpose was to push the wipers down onto the windshield as you were driving. Some cars had a problem with them lifting in the 80's.
