It's an appropriately karmic fate that deprives them of the ability to play the victim. I'm reminded of a furry who draws angry little comics that depict various specific popufurs in the fandom cruelly cancelling people and ruling the fandom with an iron fist. The comics usually get only five reactions at most, and I would bet money that none of the popufurs depicted even know who the guy is, which makes his perennial fuming seem just plain pathetic. Also "Art" means creativity, zero creativity or self expression is involved when the picture is made by a glorified algorythm. Its not even "real" AI to begin with. So by definition its not real art, its a copy of someones homework with some sentences changed so the teacher hopefully doesnt notice.

I went to my very first furry convention this year (Anthrocon '23) and it was one of the best weekends of my life. Since then I spent less time doomscrolling and more time finding people I like to talk to. Maybe I'm just basing this off of my experience, but good company and a good convention can remind you how little internet bullshit matters. FFA themed a convention off of mocking people they hate online, which I think undermines the best part of a convention, or even a meetup; you go there to hang out with people offline, not to hate on people online. If I wanted to hate on people online, I would just stay at home and do that instead of buying a ticket to Oklahoma.

This might well be the first one to do the opposite and go from a convention to an annual meet. The numbers they drew this year were about the same as the biggest local meet we had where I live.

No wonder they went with minimum-effort AI generated images for their advertisement, hired no DJ to actually play a setlist, and all of their "interactive" panels were banal guessing games about sugary drinks and poorly pantomimed performances set to pre-recorded rants. With how poor the turnout was, I'd be incredibly shocked if it wasn't operated at a loss to venue hiring costs. In fact, let's crunch some numbers as the Glenpool Conference Center lists their venue costs: Free Fur All is (or was, whichever is funnier) a 3-day event that went for 13 hours for 2 days, and then 10 hours for the last day - but only hired the rooms within the allotted days and time limits allowed by the facility. The venue rooms they hired include Exhibit Halls A and B (Game and Main Event rooms like the "DJ"), the Foyer (used for the surprisingly unpeed ball pit and literal animal abuse by an unlicensed animal sanctuary), the facility's left wing including the Board Room (Fursuit Lounge) and South 2B & 2A (combined for Dealers Den), and the facility's right wing including North 3A & 3B (combined for Panel Room 1) and North 4A & 4B (split into two rooms via a divider for Con Ops and Panel Room 2). This also doesn't take into account transport/gas costs, table fees, and additional expenses (printing for advertisement flyers, banners, office supplies, catering - even if it's literally just the con staff paying for their own food, that's money that was spent running the con - unplanned purchases due to forgotten equipment, etc). At best, they made a few hundred dollars in profit/revenue (which went straight back into the NFP account and not to any of the staff) and definitely not a thousand or more as the couple of dozen who paid for registration just barely covered the venue costs. At worse, they're barely operating above insolvency because the staff keep pumping the NFP account with their own funds, bleeding themselves to spite the naysayers because it's harder for them to accept defeat than it is to go broke. If none of this sounds difficult or pricey to you, then only managing an expo/con can give you the experience to know how truly F'd in the A the FFA con truly is.

Even Dashcon was more entertaining than this drivel, comparing clips of that trainwreck to this one (next Sunday I'm headed to a gaming convention). Jason, Kabs and Peacewolf also all dance like they're got both rheumatism and arthritis (seriously, what's with that move at 9:05? He looks like a mental patient), I could do a better job and I don't like dancing. I even consider this con's use of the 🇺🇸 in this context as a qualification for disrespecting the flag, and that caricature animation also has the same quality as modern Family Guy, equally as bad. On the plus side, Furcationland debuted this year and was a massive success, it looks very fun and I'd like to visit that. I also found out that next year, Arkansas of all states is having another con called ArcanPawz (not the first attempt in that state, there was one before in 2017 but lasted only one year), and all I can say is 🤞and hope it's better than this disgraceful flop.
