Random adventures with awesome people. We met a couple blokes on the road who invited us back to the traditional house they are renovating.
Due to population decline in rural areas the Japanese government offers incentives to people willing to revive old abandoned houses in small villages.
That means free real estate!!! Yes you read that right absolutely free.
These guys are going to turn this 300 year old house into a hotel and they're documenting the rebuild on KZbin, link below.

We also find a beautiful free campsite in a stunning location in the mountains outside Hiroshima. This was meant to be a rock climbing camp but things didn't turn out quite the way we expected...

Cool adventure. I have mates who have received free house here in Japan. It is a real thing!. Houses that have become abandoned are referred to as akiya or 空き家 in Japanese. In 2013, just over 8 million out of 60.6 million homes in Japan were considered to be akiya, or vacant, making that one in seven houses that are abandoned. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. That’s a lot, but currently, the estimate of akiya in Japan has risen to exceed 10 million.

It is so beautiful and you can sleep in your car absolutely anywhere. (public toilets and public bath) I would recommend it to anyone who wants to visit Japan. Rent a van (or ship your car) and drive around. But shipping out of Japan is a very difficult process and the car has to be totally empty for shipping.
