I wonder if the smaller hole is like that to build pressure? Idk
@averyalexander23032 жыл бұрын
Nope, it's just like that for manufacturing simplicity/cheapness. Keep in mind that these engines were just intended to power economy cars, they were never designed to be race engines. If anything all that hole would do is increase oil pressure in the pump and reduce oil flow through the engine. We don't want the pressure building up in the pump, we want it in the engine. There is no reason to not open that hole up if you have the pump off anyways as it can only increase the oil pressure and flow, but honestly I doubt that the difference would be enough to go through all the effort of pulling the pump off just to do this. I would be surprised if it made more than a 1-2 PSI difference to oil pressure by itself.
@tumsfestival8027 Жыл бұрын
@@averyalexander2303 it actually makes the difference between spinning a bearing at the track and not.
@averyalexander2303 Жыл бұрын
@@tumsfestival8027 It would be nearly impossible to prove that a spun bearing on track was directly attributable to not porting the stock oil pump. If the 75-80+ PSI that an unmodified oil pump should produce wasn't enough to prevent a spun bearing, there was a much bigger problem than a couple more PSI of oil pressure could solve like oil starvation from high G's, detonation, or improper bearing clearances. And if the oil pressure is too low, there's a problem somewhere that porting won't fix. There's no reason to not port the pump if you have it off anyways, but don't expect a ported pump to noticeably raise your oil pressure or save your engine from other problems.

@@averyalexander2303 maybe, but all I know is that people that track d16 port their oil pumps because when they don’t they spin bearings

Why do that to a z6 crank? It already has 2 oil ports. This is why people do it to y7/y8 cranks because they only have 1 port.

While more space more oil , minor space more pressure but you need to combine both to reward the ported spaces. That’s logic friends. This means you motor never get low pressure but you still can break on rod with minor possibilities but still there.
@raineljournet49043 жыл бұрын
You need to use another oil you change the space between movement parts, think that and do it. While more hot minor viscosity you get, you need to stay middle.

Only thing I saw wrong with the video was the oil pump section, where you said the oil is compressed. Had the rotation the wrong way. Think of the orientation of the oil pump goes when installed and which way the motor rotates. Other than that, great video.

or perhaps upgrade the whole pump to a one that makes more oil pressure ?
@jannikgrashoff64662 жыл бұрын
Depends on where you measure the PSI. If you measure between the pump and the small hole you are right. If you measure after the hole the PSI shouldn't change. Small holes are a resistance creating a pressure difference. Oil pressure isn't 100% the same from the pump to the bearings.

Do this to your regular old common house water hose. You will see how much further reach the water spout has. Also hold on to it with both hands because of the intense amount of added pressure. Come on bros really? Lol you can not tell me this works for anything other than fucking up what the engineers worked so hard on. Change your oil more often with better quality like mobil 1 or royal purple or amsoil

Get a cheap hose from Walmart or even the one that wraps by itself... then get an expensive hose from Walmart with a bigger diameter. Put both hoses on a sprinkler which needs pressure.. tell me which pushes the water further and harder... it will be the one thats less constricted.. so there might be a good science to opening these ports up

If everyone believed the factory put out the very best or most efficient product.. There would be no aftermarket parts. Imagine being a gear head and buying a car that could no way be improved. My point is that through people and aftermarket companies innovations will always be made. Ported pumps can be found through companies all over. Have you see badguys pump? it sells for 255$ but it is cnc'd so of course it's superior. Now I'm just rambling. But ive seen many cases where castings are done in ways that save money, save time or are just plain crappy designs.. heads, manifolds pumps..whatever. Like bolt hole bosses protruding into intake port runners. The y8 head having miss aligned bowls behind the valve seats (casting error) Idk man long story short yeah I believe honda can design a better pump than me.. Do i believe i can tweak their design to perform better? Hell yeah
@majorkin194 жыл бұрын
big company make parts and meet requirement not parts that exceeds them, only their race cars get the complete R and D required to put those parts to maximum potential, again as greasemonkey mods stated tahts why the aftermarket parts exist, look up companies like 4 pistons, acl , bad guys etc all of which port the d16 oil pumps and into much greater details than shown in this vid, do you think those guys sat down and thought "hey maybe the way honda made it is fine and we shouldn't touch it" lol no offense , this is coming from someone running a d.i.y ported oil pump on his boosted d16y8 by the way ;-) , you just have to make sure that you shim as well as port it, better oil volume and higher oil pressure = happy rod and main journals
@dannydethanos69944 жыл бұрын
If you exceed factory specs and add a turbo the turbo especially your oil pressure drops and you’ll burn your turbos. Though he should shim it to increase pressure. (Honda and many other companies have had a history of making engines powerful in design and then pulling the punch in the final product for various reasons usually cost.)

Ok, first your music is awful. Second, why even bother trying to boost a d16? I love the engine but, at the most your going to get a whopping 180HP and that is with the stage two cam, skunk 2 intake, headers, new pistons to support the stress as well as connecting rods. Dude, that would be over 3000$$$ for 180HP when you could swap a B18 or K20 and get that HP naturally aspirated ( and much more potential ) for 2000$$. The D16 is a great engine for an economy car, not a race car. I have a 94 EJ2 with the Z6, love it but it ain't no race car but fits a B18 so perfect if one wanted to make it a race worthy ride.
@aidennaerion45762 жыл бұрын
i know the question wasnt for me but... you can get much more power out of a D series, 300hp would be a reliable goal for low comp forged rods example, at most ive seen 800+ hp. Personally where i live d series parts are waaay cheaper than B K H or any other, so you can get enough power out of it while keeping costs down
@alpha_cg5 Жыл бұрын
You sound slow.. if you buil something & boost it it’s meant for racing 🤡 B series are trash unless you dump $2000k+ just to barely see 200hp. While a boosted D16 can make 300+ on the right set up.
