Very nice! It’s casual enough for lounging yet smart enough to walk out of the house. Lime green really suits you and your skin tone. I agree that a longer zipper would have worked better

Man, I have the perfect zipper for that! A big chunky twelve incher with an oversized zipper pull from the early 80s in white. I won't be trying this as I'd be an absolute side show in it, but I really enjoyed re-living many similar sewing experiences while watching. Brightened my day.

Hi Angelina! Great video! As for the rippled pocket, I sew a lot with silky fabric and find that hand basting is my best friend. If you hand baste the pocket, the stability in the basting thread should prevent the pocket seam from stretching. Be sure when basting to keep the tension in the stitches and not let them be too loose since knit fabric can stretch so easily.. Also, if you have to struggle to get into the jumper definitely change out the zipper for a longer one. You will be happier with the jumper in the end. Best of luck with your future projects.
@dpr48202 жыл бұрын
You can also try using a knit stay tape. It has a slight stretch to it but it keeps things a little bit sturdier so that should solve the rippling problem.

Agreed!

Jan here, I would put in a snap crotch. Everyone hates undressing to go to the bathroom. Dritz makes a snap tape you can use. It’s snaps applied to twill tape. It comes in black, white, and beige. Easy peasy. So cut the crotch from side to side, not in the middle, but toward the front so you can reach it easier. If you’ve planned ahead you’ll add an inch for seam allowances. But to retro fit the one you just made you may need to add an extra strip of fabric to keep your wiggle room. But since it’s knit you might need to apply a strip of stabilizing interfacing to hold the shape. It’s a weave vs. knit issue. Let me know if you try it. A snap crotch totally changes the wearability of a garment! Fun makeover! Jan in Oklahoma

That is what I was thinking too when I saw it.
@lestranged2 жыл бұрын
I was thinking that too. Baby onesies have a snap crotch for easy diaper changes and I wish adult onesies copied that. Men have it easier, all they need is a fly in their onesie!
@sewthernbelle2 жыл бұрын
I was thinking this too because I bought a romper from Walmart on clearance to wear around the house but every time I had to go to the bathroom I had to take the whole thing off. it was annoying. I was going to do this anyway but the extra fabric and stabilizer is a good tip.

Hi Angelina, Wow! I love what you did out from that extra large sweater. For the pocket I would have used water soluble stabilizer. Over and under the fabric. Gives you the stability, it will not stretch while you are sewing, and melts away with water (sprayed or washed). There are few types: One is like a film, that one you just tear it away, no water is needed :) Try it! I am using it on the serger too, if the fabric is too delicate.

To keep that fabric from stretching like that, iron in a bit of iron in interfacing on the inside before sewing. It keeps the feed dogs from stretching the fabric.

This is so cooI, because how many of us have had on a long shirt and grab the crotch area to see what it would look like as a romper. Back in the early 80s I had a romper like the second taupe one at 0:38 (probably got it from some teen shop at the mall), I wore it around the house, sat outside, and slept in it, and it was stretch enough for my baby bump. I do still have it but it packed away because of my move and it not something I will reach for with the current weight gain. I thought you were going to use snaps at the crotch but not sure how much space that little zipper is going to give you to get it on (wait and see). You might just have to cut the neckline to widen it up. I do like the finished project the color is a bold yes and it really looks cute on you. Thanks for sharing and blessing to you and all in the days to come.

Buying clothes that are XL or bigger from thrift stores is a huge problem as it’s hard enough for bigger people to find clothes. Not a cool decision on your part.
@BlueprintDIY2 жыл бұрын
At all the thrift stores that I go to there are actually an over abundance of larger clothes for both men and women. And since this is the last resort before the landfill, everyone should buy what they need within reason.
