We are Humans, and we are here to help. Seeing as how the majority of these stories are "Humans are scary mfers who eat capsaicin" it was nice to see a story where Humans actually helped. Though I couldn't help but think of Ronald Reagan's speech in which he said the scariest words that could ever be uttered are "We are from the government, and we're here to help".

I love the last message, the one that got an answer. The humans heard a language they couldn't audibly replicate so when they heard sad children's choir music playing from a dying world, they responded with what i can only imagine was a triumphant orchestra of "Hey! Rescue is here!" in a language that crosses barriers: Music. Emotion. Hope. I wish i could see this animated. Hear it. I feel like the emotion of that scene would make anyone cry! What a well written story!

If there's a good side in all this AI improvement over the recent years, it is that we'll sooner rather than later be able to animate those stories using only basic concept arts and a script as prompts Of course, humanity might take a heavy hit if we don't part ways with our capitalist mindset at the same pace, but we'll have entertainment!

There was a Story of this style/genre that came though my Facebook feed 5+ years ago that I would love to hear narrated. I only remember a few details. To sum up, human = galactic bogey man, was narrated from a healer of a clinic on a small colony infected with some plague, Humans show up and the story's last word were "We from Doctors Without Boarders. We are here to help."

@hohenzollern6025
@hohenzollern6025 Жыл бұрын
Those bad traits are what makes the good traits so good. Need necessitates invention, and there is no need greater than War. The most destructive war in our history spurred the rapid invention of all our modern amenities. Bi-planes to jets in 6 years. If we were all peaceful hippies from the start, we'd still be hiding in caves. It's that desire to go outside and murder things that got us out of the caves.

First time I have heard of a Gamma Ray Burst being described in an HFY story. Nice to hear about real science in these stories sometimes. This story is actually pretty realistic to what would happen if a nearby GRB hit Earth. If some outside force didn't come to our aid, most life on Earth would go extinct. Even if humanity survived the GRB, a GRB is followed up by a slow moving mass of radioactive particles that would eventually hit the Earth years after the GRB hit. The terrifying thing is that unlike the GRB itself that would be over very quickly (think hours, probably less), the particles following behind it would pound the entire solar system for months, maybe years. The Earth would be totally irradiated and what is left of our atmosphere, magnetosphere, and ozone layer, wouldn't be anywhere near enough to offer us any protection from the radiation. If humanity was to have any chance of surviving, we would have to become completely subterranean.

To be fair if this was set in the star trek universe the very fact that the UFP received a planetary distress call and it was not thousands/millions of years old would indicate that this race was likely advanced enough that the prime directive would probably not apply. and even if it did there is a section that renders the order a moot point when it comes to preventing the extinction of a species. basically, make sure of the species' survival first then deal with any cultural/technological contamination after the crisis is resolved.

Depends on the goal of such federations, just like leadership of countries, it's fine if the one at the top is benevolent or its so fractured that no polarization occurs and representatives are more worried about the needs and desires of those they represent than their popularity to keep their position. Bureaucracy has a purpose, usually.

Fun fact, explosive decompression does happen, but it does not happen when you lose pressure from one atmosphere to nill. I will point the dear readers to the Byford Dolphin Accident. A Diving bell accident where 4 divers and one dive tender (a highly experienced Saturation diver himself) were killed, and a second Dive tender seriously injured. The event was a rapid decompression event of the first two compartments of the pressurised diving quarters. The injuries to one of the divers, who was dragged through a half open hatch have been described as 'extreme' to 'turned into hamburger meat' depending on the source. That accident was not 1 atmosphere to 0, it was 10 atmospheres to 1...... So yes, it can happen, but its NOT happening in space. Will exposure to space kill you? Absolutely, radiation, extreme cold, and of course the utter lack of oxygen will all kill you in fairly rapid order. Explosive decompression however is NOT on the list of things that will kill you unless for some reason your space craft is pressurised to ridiculous levels.... Saturation divers need that pressurisation to avoid decompression sickness. But its not something you are going to see in a space craft.....

We are here to help? Doesn't sound like most of the people I have met! Committees would be formed, funds to pay the Committees would be debated, maybe in a few years they would come to the conclusion that more Committees are needed to decide which Committees results should be followed, More funding needed to pay for research, after many decades and billions spent, thousands of Committees they may then ask the question. Should we do this? That needs more Committees to decide. It would be an endless circle of talking and DOING NOTHING that is what the governments of this planet are like! All talk no action spending Billions of Dollars! Round and round it goes where it stops nobody knows! BUT they all get paid by the tax payers so they don't care!! What was the original purpose?? By now it's forgotten so need more Committees to find out WTF they are doing!!!!!!!!!!!! ARRRRRRRRRRRGG!!!!!! Never believe your government they work for themselves, NOT FOR YOU!!
