The lone exception to that might be the original Leatherman® Tool. Most "if not all" of the tools work just as well as their individual counterparts among mainstream consumer tools. Even the little P38 style can opener is the only one I've ever used that actually works better than the original military issue version. And I've opened hundreds of cans of "C-Rats" with a P38. I also had a "knock-off" from Gerber and a "nice looking" Chinese clone, but neither one approached the quality and workmanship of the original Leatherman® Tool.

Bryan, whoever designed that stove in the pouch is a very smart and inventive person, and I think that such people should give full vent to their creativity. Usually, when I think in terms of "survival" though, I steer away from carrying a lot of metal gear. In the end, it becomes a serious weight issue. As a young and poorly informed guy starting hiking years ago, I hauled an 80+ pound pack above the tree line in the Rocky Mountains, and I learned that metal gear us just a killer and a big energy drain. So I would think very carefully about packing metal other than a Marine Corps Mess Kit Canteen Cup, knife etc. However, I am very impressed with the inventiveness and the ingenuity of the fellow who designed this particular stove. I want to see what else is made by this person or persons. Good video. Keep'em coming.

I think the manufacturers have in theory a good idea it just still needs a few tweeks like a better way to hold the pieces when you want to cut them some sort of palm handle or that clips and unclips around the side and has a top and bottom latch to hold it on while sawing? BUT that's just for those of us (me) not smart enough to use gloves. Great upload love the 'bloopers at the end'

I think it's a cool idea. I wouldn't buy it solely for any of those tools but you never know when they could come in handy. I think if it as a portable stove, and the tools simply back ups to back ups. It would definitely be nice if I was stuck without a leatherman and a knife. I'm sure some people will say it's gimicky but I think it's pretty cool. I'd throw one in a bag or in my truck for sure.
@SurvivalOnPurpose8 жыл бұрын
Gimmicky? Now who would think that?

Hand care is everything for me with having only one good hand. I would never work most of the features without hand protection. The least I would do is try to use the pouch it stores in in any way possible. I do like the ability to fasten it outside a pack. My bug out sling pack has several items inside that when needed can fasten outside the pack leaving room for things one can pick up and store in the pack. But the main feature I am looking for is the side holes. I watched a video with such a stove that had side holes and the man was sliding twigs in all around keeping the fire burning well all around. The only thing missing are cross pieces. If I would buy this I would make some. However I am leaning on fold out versions. Any hand injury can make a bad situation much worse for me.

Graters are always handy for tinder, making medicine, heck even hash browns. It's a good addition to a sheet metal stove. The other stuff could come in handy if the OPFORs miss it on a weapons search. Screw it, I'm buying one.
@SurvivalOnPurpose8 жыл бұрын
It actually worked pretty good on the fatwood.
@georgev56208 жыл бұрын
I'm curious about whether the manufacturer actually calls it a "cheese grater". It looks like it is intended for and works great as a grater for fatwood or similar materials. All the other stuff is just extra. At $28.28 on GearBest, it's not priced much differently than similar stoves, and it's even less expensive than some that I've seen. This one is bigger than the one I have. I'm ordering one!
@georgev56208 жыл бұрын
FYI, GearBest does not have these in stock to fill orders. At check-out, my credit card was denied, so I tried a second time because there is nothing wrong with my credit card account. Figured maybe a number got transposed or something. About 5 minutes after I tried to place my order, I got a text message from my credit card issuer (Navy Federal Credit Union) asking me to verify this purchase order from CHINA. NFCU was just looking out for me against unauthorized charges. I replied that it was a valid purchase. Delivery time on the GearBest website says 5-7 weeks. Now I don't know if I am going to receive and be charged for two of these! I'll know in 5-7 weeks! If anyone orders from the link to support this channel, be aware of that.
@georgev56208 жыл бұрын
After first denying my credit card because my credit card issuer verifies international orders, GearBest ended up processing THREE orders for this stove. Their online-chat customer service rep was an idiot and couldn't help me. I think/hope I was able to get these orders cancelled through their website, but I'm not sure. I tried to support your channel by ordering through your link, but because of the 2 hours of hassle I went through because of it, I won't be doing so again.
@SurvivalOnPurpose8 жыл бұрын
Seriously? That is ridiculous! I am going to copy your comments and send them to my contact at Gear Best. I am really sorry you had such a hard time with this. I actually checked the website before I did the video and the delivery time was just a few days. Please let me know if you get charged for all three. Send me a private message or use the email link on my About page on KZbin. Comments have a way of getting buried and I don't want to forget this.

I would not recommend this thing as your only kit for survival, but in a scenario where you have a knife and just in case you loose it or destroy it you can do some of its tasks with your stove, it makes definitely sense. Better this one with additional functions than any mere folding stove. But, just to say it: every tool requires the right technique to work with. Trying to hold it like a knife creates bloody side effects. Keeping it between your feet on the ground and pushing things over the edge, saw etc makes more sense, requires less energy and allows you to completely avoid blood loss ;-)
@SurvivalOnPurpose7 жыл бұрын
that doesn't sound even a little fun ;-)
@bangalorebobbel7 жыл бұрын
yes the real fun comes only when You try that method - I bet it takes you quite some while to become familiar with that technique :-))) In fact I have never seen it nor even heard about this technique before I came to India. But here, many people in rural areas use billhooks as one of their major tools, some seem not even to have anything else for food and firewood preparation. So you can often see ladies sitting on the ground in front of their house, holding a huge billhook between their feet, and cutting any vegetables. Or you see some old fishermen's old wives sitting on any market, cutting fish in that way. I found the principle very interesting - instead of using knife and cutting board, they simply keep the tool on the ground, edge towards the sky, and cut. But it definitely takes some experience, as I can tell from my own trials ;-) About the stove, ok ... meanwhile there are so many items sold under "survival" label, I never mind ... means, of course: who would need in a real survival situation a stove if there are three stones or three sticks available ;-) But to see such products (or even better: such product reviews) is really great fun and entertainment, and fodder for the brain, if one wants. (so, just btw: thank you! ;-) And such a stove is for sure another nice collectible item for gear freaks with a loose money bag, and wow, even so much cheaper as these wonderful overbuild titanium stoves (of which i got one a couple of weeks back but I still doubt whether to review it, since I am known for my frugality and don't want to destroy my image) ;-)))

Will definitely have to look for other vids too. :) Regarding how hard that was on your hands - I'm a person who will tweak most kits, & I'd probably do that here... I'd add a piece of the soft grippy stuff (silicone?) you can use to help open tightly sealed jars or place under hot dishes, etc... I'd cut a piece to the size of the oven pieces (or double if room), and put it in the package as part of the stove kit. Then if you need to do something where you are holding a sharp or biting edge, you can put the soft grippy silicone sheet between your hand and it. Kinda cool kit though. Very multi purpose. Sure it's not the best at anything, but it should work at being adequate for a lot more situations than you usually think of for a stove kit!

I think the multi-tool stove is a pretty good idea for processing wood and maybe some meat. He should have used gloves for a better demo.

I just now came across this video. I think you said, lot of better stoves in this price range. The multipurpose part is very unique, maybe just to in a bug out bag, along with a good pair of gloves to cut down on the injuries! You looked like you had some directions on that card? I don't know about grating cheese after you have soot on it, would add a very distinct taste! Thanks

That saw could benefit from a couple of holes to make a bucksaw out of it - or you could ditch the weight and make a swedish torch or dakota firepit or 3 rocks or....

That would take all the fun out of it.

So short synopsis: wear gloves while using the stove's "additional" features?
