Great chart but I don't understand the transposing of the trumpet. When you play a C @ 2:05 it's actually a A# or Bb. How does this work?
@StepWiseMusicEd4 жыл бұрын
You would probably only understand it well by finding a video on his trumpet transposition works. But basically, for centuries people have used different sizes of trumpets (in the keys of C, A, Bb, and D) but they didn’t want to memorize different fingerings for each different size, so composers write the music differently for each instrument so that trumpet players can always press the same valves for the same notes, and it comes out sounding right. Make any sense?

It can be used as an alternate fingering for 1-2, but I’m not a trumpet expert, and at least 99% of the time you just would not use 3rd valve alone. Sorry I can’t help more!

I’d suggest you work on controlling the partials a lot - practice about a minute for each fingering and hold the same fingering while playing higher and lower to try to get 4 or 5 partials each fingering. Also, search KZbin for “beginning trumpet lessons”. Best wishes!

Alright... that's fun and all, but your trumpet is tuned in Bb so when you say you're playing a 'C' in open position, you're actually playing B flat... Why doesn't your fingering chart start at B flat???
@duncanm7166 жыл бұрын
On transposing instruments you don't read music based on the actual note you hear, and instead have finger positions for notes and are called differently to simplify.
