@ChrisDavisTrumpet5 жыл бұрын
Amauri Younger when that happens typically the second valve slide is out of line adding pressure to the second valve. This isn’t always visible to the eye although sometimes it is. If you’re able to release that pressure then the valve should lift up. You may need a repairman.

5:04 I'm transferring from the trombone to the trumpet, and I'm just confused why going down the chromatic scale is as simple as 1-7, but going up skips 6 & 7. Is that supposed to happen, if so, why?
@acidicamino4 жыл бұрын
Going from G to C skips 6&7 but going for C to G does not. G to C is only 5 half step, but C to G is 7 half steps. Edit: assuming you are going up the scale in both cases

As we ascend the partials get smaller (the distance between notes get smaller as we ascend).
@ChrisDavisTrumpet4 жыл бұрын
It is for this reason that it is possible to play any note with any fingering you'd like in the upper register (although it may be out of tune). The notes are soooo close. Study the harmonic series! Great observation and great question!

Great video. I learned a lot. I already knew all the notes and fingering from low F# to high F# but I never thought of them as positions. FWIW, I noticed your 3rd valve was sticking a little bit when you were holding the horn in front of the camera going from position 7 to 1.
@ChrisDavisTrumpet4 жыл бұрын
Stephen McGrew sorry but I don’t know what FWIW represents. What does that stand for? But, yes, my trumpet is still pretty new and I wasn’t washing the valves as often as a new horn needs to washed. But yeah about the positions.... I was teaching a brass class some years ago when I finally realized the positions were the same on trumpet and trombone. It can be helpful to know that especially if you’re teaching in a classroom situation. Thanks for reaching out!
@stephenmcgrew88684 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisDavisTrumpet FWIW = For What It's Worth : ) You're video is very helpful. I appreciate being able to look at the finger positions in a different way. With time and practice, it should come natural I suppose. It's like when I learned to type. At first I had to think about where every key is located in order to spell the words. But in time, that went away and my fingers learned where they needed to go without having to think about it. It's probably the same thing with Trumpet. I'm teaching myself Trumpet right now; that's why I'm watching KZbin videos. I'm using the piano as a guide to the trumpet. Because I know all the major and minor scales on the piano, I made a chart of the piano keys for the full range of the Trumpet and wrote the trumpet fingering for each note on each piano key. So if I want to play a scale, I just look at that chart and I can see the scale and what fingering is necessary. Kind of an easy way to teach myself scales and arpeggios. I've memorized the whole chart, so I don't have to look at it anymore. Soon I'll have to do some sight reading though.
