I really liked this compressor, I found it to be very transparent and the tilt filter is very useful. Strangely, it also widened my drums when I threw it in the Drum Bus.

I think if you Control-click the EQ point, it turns into a shelf. So you can put that wherever to not process the low or high end.

Always appreciate your insight! Much like UAD Topline, the trend in plugins is to simplify the UI for beginners. Less controls, but still effective 👍

hello matty, sorry to write to you in this post about this, but I wanted to ask you a question, I really liked the viridyan 2 compressor in the video that you show it, but I can't access that plugin, and I asked in an acoustics forum if it had resembled that compressor in another one, and they told me to see the white 3, and I came here to see your video of the white 3 but honestly I didn't see that it was similar, in fact the white 3 emulates the ssl quite a bit, and I don't know if the viridyan compressor does that... I don't know what you can tell me about this thing about the white 3 compressor being close to the vidiyan or if you have any other recommendations, either from acoustics or also from another company in that sense. thanks a lot!!

it's basically a multi-band compressor. What is intelligent about it? How hard is it to set thresholds and crossover points and attack and release?

it's changing those parameters in real time response to the signal, many times per second

As a beta tester for Waves I can assure you it's much more than a multiband compressor. There is a ton going on under the hood.

@@matt_nyc_audioengineer I'm sure, but what exactly? Lots of times I see these things put over the stereo bus And they're doing a nice job of evening things out, but a multi-band compressor also does a good job of evening things out. I rarely feel limited by them. So this is adding a sort of intelligent thing to the mix that is making decisions about the material but I have no clear idea why I would want that. Sure I want a multi-band compressor that has infinite bands, for ultra fine tuning, But if I'm doing ultra fine tuning I would rather do it in the mix. So this is a cool intelligent mastering-style multi-band compressor that I guess I'll just have to demo... But mostly I see these AI tools as being unnecessary and also just dangerous. I've run into problems in the past putting them on my buses too early. If you haven't run into this problem before, you're in for a rude awakening. If you have a bunch of instruments going into a bus and you change a couple of those instruments dramatically, that will affect how the AI process on your bus is working on all the rest of your tracks going into that same bus. I've ended up chasing my tail... So in my opinion, these things are thinking too much FOR me. It's a similar concept when you have a compressor on your master bus and you have to keep watching it, because if you don't, and at some point you want to turn it off, all of a sudden stuff will start jumping out at you and you're going to now have to re-automate. Ugh.. And with these AI tools it's more complex. Anyway, the point is, simple tools, in my opinion, are 99.9% often all that's needed for the job.

@@MikeBrayton I mean, I can't tell you that haha!! I'm under an NDA but what I can tell you is that first of all, there are many MANY more bands active here than in any multi band compressor on the market. Also, it's "analyzing" the source martial and applying more or less compression per band. It detects what parts of the signal has too much energy and compresses that more. It can actually rebalance your whole mix but in a very natural musical way. It's also updating the settings constantly. It doesn't just do a static analysis, it's constantly analyaizg and adjusting the processing. So yes, you maybe could get a similarish result with a MBC however it would take WAY longer to set up and you would need to write a ton of automation, for pretty much every parameter on the compressor from the start to end of your song. With this, you can set it up in seconds! It's one of the few plugins I can honestly say I rarely if ever find the need to automate. So sure, if you want to think of it in very simple terms you could compare it to a MBC but in reality while at the core they are same principal in practice they are very different tools. There is no "AI" here either. Nothing about this plugin uses AI or machine learning. Dude, I get it! To be very clear, I'm not a Waves fanboy. They actually approached me to be on the beta team after they saw me being critical of them a few years back haha!! When we first started testing this, I did not like it. If your last sentence is true then this is exactly what you are looking for lol. MUCH simpier than dialing in an MBC properly. Especially to get the same kind of sound you can get with this. Give it a try! I make my full time income mixing so I don't really like the simple, beginner focused tools but I like this and it fits perfectly in that box. I think maybe you are thinking the plugin is harder to use than it is. It's not I assure you! There is no one more against AI than me lol. No AI going on here. It would be part of the Clarity line if it was. Those use "AI".
