Hi Brad! A question not related to this video, I think I saw you mention this in another video: there is a way to edit faster by speeding up the playback while editing. For instance, if I had to edit a 60 minutes clip (like an interview) down to a few minutes. If I go through the clip at normal speed, this will take me at least one hour to make the cuts. However, if I can double the playback speed, it would take half of the time. Is there a way, besides actually increasing the clip's speed like we would for a time ramping? Using time ramping would mean having to get the clips back to normal speed after editing, which isn't, I guess, the most efficient way... Thanks for your help! I think this could be a good content for a tuto! Haha!

Hey Julien! Absolutely you can. I do this all the time. Ain’t nobody got time to edit in real time 😂 You can use the J K and L keys to reverse playback, pause and play forwards. Tapping J or L more than once will speed up playback backwards or forwards. I mentioned this and showed an example of it in my 100 Shortcuts video if you’d like to check that out 😄👍🏼

Very nice! I'm not happy with most 'motion blur' plugins or effects. They all just look like they're applying extra frames and blur. Any suggestions on what to use?

Yeah that is how most of them work unfortunately. Ryan Nangle has some motion blur adjustment layers that are free that you could try (although they work on the same principle). A long time ago I used to use a plugin called RSMB (Real Smooth Motion Blur) in after effects and I got the best results from that but it took crazy long to render clips.

AddMotion from FxFactory also has some motion blur plugins that work as effects, not as adjustment layers but again, they work on the same principle. If RSMB would render faster and natively in FCP, that would be a game changer 😄🙌🏼

@@Brad_West sometimes clips arent long enough and asks to create transitions and messes with duration and timing of clip. Is there a work around?

@@adamkurtz1869 There is a cool little workaround trick for this. You can add a hold frame to the end of the clip that isn't long enough or at the beginning of the next clip if there is not enough media to create the transition, then trim the hold frame away and add the transition. The transition will then use the "hold frame" frames as the extra media it needs without messing up the timing. Hope that helps!

Hey Fazil. These transitions were optimized for 16:9, 9:16 and 1:1 aspect ratios, but not for 18:9 unfortunately. The best workaround I can suggest is to copy the clips you want to apply transitions to, to a new 16:9 timeline, apply the transitions, make a compound clip and then copy the compound clip back into your 18:9 timeline. Hope that helps!

Unfortunately I don’t know of any transitions optimized for 18:9 aspect ratios. You could try searching Envato for something, they might have what you’re looking for.

Hey Brad, awesome transitions. I got the full pack yesterday and used them with a new project. Unfortunately, when I follow Dylan's tutorial (kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2jGeImQfa5lndk) I got some weird in between frames in the final vertical video. Any idea what's causing the transition to get screwed when creating a new project off the compound clip?

Thanks so much for the support! Let's try figure this out for you. I think the issue is that the compound clip method Dylan talks about is confusing the aspect ratio in FCP. These transitions have been optimised for 16:9 and vertical aspect ratios but the compound clip might be doing something weird. Does it still happen if you don't use compound clips? Just trying to find the root cause...
