Yes, an interview with him would be nice but let's give the devs a bit of time to work first because they are already on it. A TopoNaming development branch was created and is targeted for merger in the next release github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/tree/development/toponaming

I also would like to see a merge from 0.20 to linkstage3. since the TNP merge to 0.21 will take a lot of time. maybe Dmitry thought also the same way, and not the other way round ;-) (specifically, the non hollow section cut I'm missing in linkstage3)

the preference pack addon sound like a fantastic idea! I've been missing this sort of functionality on things like blender and cura, just off the top of my head.

Next video you do should be a summary of differences between RT's branch and 0.20. Getting hard to keep track, especially as RT's work gets merged upstream.

Please change the timestamps in the description to use colon instead of dot. Otherwise KZbin doesn't pick up on them and create the links and chapters on the time line.

Hopefully, some time in a future, devs will merge TNT fixes, update UI to be more user friendly (like link branch) and finally deliver useful surface modeling tools and workflow. Currently it's not usable at all if doing something parametric... struggling to make simple wing with rounded tip. It could work if only loft tool from PArt wb has a continuity setting, or tool like "stitch surfaces" exists with C-setting, or, at least, tools from Surfase or Curves WB could work as intended without breaking everything. It's really pain to work with surfaces here and I hope it will be change before I retire.

For those familiar with this program, old and new versions, has it become friendlier to new users? I tried it out about a year ago and found it more annoying than I was willing to deal with. I use AutoDesk for the occasional technical drawings I make, but I'm not a fan of their cloud-based model. I'm hoping FreeCAD can get to the point that even people who go months between uses can still use it reasonably well.

FreeCAD has SolidWorks like workflow, just go trough tutorials on youtube, once you get the philosophy you will not go back.

i used freecad v0.19, and even then, i found it miles better than solidworks for lots of things. I had no problem with its UX. What did you struggle with? I am NOT saying that it is better than solidworks in every thing, neither that it is feature comparable with that.

That's a great way of presenting new features 🙂 3:20 Did you use some non-standard rendering settings ? This model looks better than with the default settings. And it seems that it's not just because of custom colors.

No tbh ... perhaps only some tweaking of the material settings but nothing special. CTRL-D then click on the 3 dots icon on the left of the material name and try tweaking those values

Just downloaded 0.20 and it seems to be okay for now. The only issue I have is that current Freecad files do not show the icon label, but the .FSstd extension is good. I am going to check the property of each of my files to see why this is happening.

Thank you very much! The Forum must not be taking new members nor contacts. Everything I have tried I still can't join. I am new and I do have questions like what is the white arrow on the green on every pad, pocket and other items. I have even uninstalled FreeCAD 0.20.1, restarted my windows 10 computer and installed FreeCAD 0.20.1. In the Part Design Create part --> Create body --> Create Sketch --> Create rectangle --> Fully Constrain rectangle ---> Close --> Click once on Sketch and click pad. The arrow now shows. Thanks for your help!!!🙂

Hey! Greetings from Brazil! I need help. The versions of FreeCAD I'm using, 0.20 Link Branch, don't have the "Persistent Section Cut" option in the "View" menu. So when I create a cut section it is created hollow. How can I solve this problem so that the cut results in a solid cut? Thank you for your attention. 😊

Persistent section cut is a feature of the master branch if I'm not mistaking. Realthunder is working on rebasing Link branch on the 0.21 master and that should happen by the end of August/September .... you will get that feature hopefully with it's next release.

I found why Freecad 0.20 didn't work, it is because the name of the folder where I install my software contains a special character, in any case considered as such and then I also discovered via the CMD console that the Freecad "mod" folder must be installed at the root of the PC configuration (for example -> \C: ) otherwise it doesn't find the modules of the workshops and it doesn't work.

Dude! I've tried 0.20 and there's some things that aren't as easy. Like I draw circles in the draft work bench and sweep in the part design workbench, but on 0.20 it says the 'selected object must belong to the active body'. Found out you have to do it through the parts workbench and align a datum point, then create a circle then sweep. Buuut the sweep options don't have subtractive options and I'm struggling to make new hollow tubes. Harder with extra steps involved. Also, showing and hiding aspects of the model is an issue, can't just click individual items, have to hit the space bar and if you show one part another hides itself in the model so I can't view all of the model at once 🤔 which doesn't happen for the same file when on the link branch. Pro dark theme looks nice but I still prefer the split treeview and combo view show on edit. So in my constructive conclusion and opinion, 0.20 is not as easy or intuitive to operate and kind of clunky especially for a very novice user with limited experience of FreeCad. Much love to all the developers involved though, once I get an industrial output from the software, hopefully I will be able to start supporting further developments. In the end I reverted back to the Daily.Conda version.

Yes, linkstage3 has soooo many quality of life improvements but they are trickling down to master. Atm TopoNaming is addressed and a TopoNaming development branch was created and is targeted for merger in the next release github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/tree/development/toponaming So the future is looking bright

I love the pie menu options as well, makes moving from one view or workbench to another so much easier . My only irk with Link is when you press ctrl alt delete to move back a few steps, sometimes it crashes and turns off. Usually it recovers even the last few steps

9:21 does this also mean that the loft tool will identify inner and outer loops of sketches and match them at each end as well, instead of crossing the faces if the sketches were drawn in a different order?

Well....I tried it but loft in particular fails with island geometry unfortunately. Bare in mind that you still have to obey the single solid rule for bodies to get island geometry to work. For example For example a first sketch with 3 circles inside an empty body will fail to pad because it would essentially create 2 solids. But if the sketch has some underlying geometry to bridge the 3 circles will work

I tried to install this version on my home pc. I'm on Windows 10, I don't know if this is related, but the application startup splash screens crash when loading certain modules, resulting in the software not starting. So I had to tweak something to launch it with the splash screen of an earlier version. But I find it unconventional, unsatisfying. Maybe you have a solution to this problem. Otherwise I stay with my version "Real Thunder" and your pre-configured interface.
