00:00:00 From the Riviera to Liberia: Inside the Irish Security Industry. It is one of the fastest growing in the world, and today generates over 100 billion dollars annually. It's a global industry but one which is dominated by Irish operators. Liam Cunningham joins Butler in Cannes where he runs a successful private security company providing protection to high net worth clients and celebrities who spend their summers holidaying in the exclusive region. 00:52:12 Pirates, Drugs, and Oil: Securing the Seychelles Actor Liam Cunningham travels to the Seychelles as he follows three Irish ex-Defence Forces personnel who have made a significant contribution in dealing with security threats to the Seychelles government and its people. The Seychelles has had issues with kidnapping and extortion as well as major drug and piracy problems. Although it's a tiny island in the Indian Ocean, its security has become internationally important as almost one third of all the oil in the world passes through the Indian Ocean. The documentary is from 2012. It was originally commissioned and shown on RTÉ.

In 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the A-Team.

As far as diamonds go, apply the industry standards of manufacture to retail mark up...10 fold is about right... A TV costs retail $300.00, it costs $30.00 to make... So $150.00 cost for a raw diamond at source will retail for $1500.00... Without the cutting expertise, and the retail marketing skills, advertising and brand management, what do people expect... It's called a value chain...
@bronsonperich9430Ай бұрын
In my country, the average markup on a TV set is 5%. Gone are the days when you sold a TV for 200-300%. One reason for this is there is a massive gap between manufacturer and retailer. This gap is occupied by the likes of the Government(s), shipper, port, distributer, etc.
@bronsonperich9430Ай бұрын
For something like a diamond, increase your factors. $20 uncit diamond, $2000 cut stone. Jeweller sells for $10,000.
@bharland85Ай бұрын
The expectation is that the people who do the work could be compensated well enough for their children not to live in poverty and that the government could tax all that revenue to better their society. In exchange for the immense wealth they are generating, that is not unreasonable. This is beyond the retail level of markup, they are clearly being exploited in a way that a developed nation wouldn't allow. Even that $150 at the source is the local 'boss man' price, every stage after that has its own price that goes straight into the middle-man's pocket... the miners see a laughably small sum and the whole system ducks the government so it can't be effectively taxed for the benefit of the country as a whole. To put it into perspective, a diamond miner in a developed nation (like Australia) probably makes 6-ish figures (USD) and those diamonds are still extremely profitable so the only reason to do it this way is obscene greed (at virtually every level).
@godoff.530418 күн бұрын
