Hawaii is a living land, a dynamic force. Here, Man is dwarfed by Nature whose unbridled force rules supreme. First we meet Scott. He’s explored the rugged landscape from the Waimea Canyon to the Napali Coast, home to the island's earliest inhabitants. Then In Oahu, Yuko is a sailplane pilot. She is always on the lookout for the slightest breeze to satisfy her passion. Finally, we meet Olivier, a French astronomer, who spends a good part of his time on the summit of Big Island, at 4207 meters. Let us know in the comments if you’ve ever been and how you liked it!

This is a documentary of the foreign users of Hawai'i; how others come and take. Mind blowing.

I think you are referring to people exploiting & abusing rather than being sharing or respectful? Why are people sometimes exploitive? Maybe because they have different levels of generational loss, instability, or over indulgence from abundance which is weirdly perhaps a different kind of abuse or at least could be the result inherited lack or loss mentality ? Equality is a difficult thing to achieve. The planets resources have never been equal around the globe. We have to deal with that. Projection and Blanket statements are seldom helpful, however, accountability is. Sorry you if feel exploited. I get that. I agree, Hawaii & planet earth are exploited & abused and it sucks. But… to put kindness here… maybe I could reframe that as … we are all trying to thrive and discover, and that in itself is not “evil”. It’s just our nature, so though we are destructive, we are beautiful.

@sarahscott9601 Thank goodness I don't take anything personally. It's especially heartening that others are inquiring about these topics; thinking about and supporting open discussions. Sometimes, one person's experience (or perception) of a place is dramatically different than another's. There is always so much to learn - how fantastic and important.

I think there are an over abundance of sociopathic humans on this planet, also psychopaths. These kind of people should be monitored Closely, as their tendencies tend to lead to destructive behaviors some can be fatal. 😮

My mother was born && raised on Oahu . She worked for Dole pineapple for a while , later worked for the US Military, typing up letters sent to the families of our military members who perished in the Pacific theater during WWII. She also was Miss Pineapple Princess of the Dole plantation before WWII. After 20 + years as a Navy brat , I moved to Honolulu , and while walking down Waikiki a lady approached me and handed me a form and said “I want you to run for Miss Hawaii USA”. I didn’t want to bcuz I was too timid , I hated being on stages & being stared at. My Hawaiian cousins talked me into running. I knew I wouldn’t Win, but I gave it a whirl anyway, I was a nervous wreck, almost fell off the stage….and learned to never volunteer for anything involving a stage. 😮

Very nicely shot documentary. However--where are the Hawaiians? I've spent years on O'ahu, Maui, Kaua'i & Hawaii Island. There are lots of Hawaiians living there and trying to make a living. Too many foreigners have taken much of the available real estate and jobs. Also, there is a movement against the biggest telescope project the University wants to put up on the Sacred Summit. How about showing some of the Hawaiians and their point of view& including some Hawaiian music and dance.

Free Documentary I'm sure doesn't have anything to do with the constant bombardment of advertisements during this video. But the advertisers seem to be able to find the most annoying people on earth to act in them. They never have anything to do with what I'm interested in or need. If I'm not close to the mouse to hit skip, I'm tortured for a half hour of it playing in the background. And if by chance I remember what was advertised, I wouldn't buy it if my life depended on it. What ad agency thinks this is the way to sell junk ? Or is it to get you to sign up for ad free playing ?

I find this documentary offensive. I am not born here, but I have been here over 3 quarters for my life. I kinda get the premise. But not including the thoughts, feelings and beliefs of a Hawaiian makes this over embellished and fake. I guarantee that most Hawaiian people don't love your subjects as much as they do. Next time a little more research and real life would be more appreciated.

Yes, but the Hawaiian people are not happy about all the white ppl coming to Hawaii and buying all the lands they grew up on, and pricing these lands so high that many Hawaiians had to leave & move to mainland, or end up in a homeless camp on the other side of Oahu…. Back in the 1800’s , there were many other countries that would stop off in Hawaii to stock up on supplies of food & fresh water 💦 before continuing on to Russia (Red Flags in the Sunset/song), Britain, Japan, and others. Imagine if Russia or China took over Hawaii…..😳😱

So, Hawaii was acquired by the USA is not really a bad thing, but I understand why they are pissed! My Hawaiian cousins have had to move to the mainland due to financial issues, it’s just a horrible shame it came to that. They were all born & raised there, even had a home, 20 min. from Waikiki (walking). It makes me sick to think about it.
