@Topjunkie I agree about jazz drumming being the most complex. My favorite drummer is Roy Haynes so I know what you mean. But that's a separate issue. There are jazz drummers who struggle getting into rock rhythms, not because it's more complex but because it's just so different. Japanese is by most metrics a more complex language than English, but the Japanese often struggle with English just because it's so different, to use a hopefully easy analogy. As for metal, which drummers do you have in mind? The best and most innovative drumming I've heard over the past 10 years has mostly been metal, especially the drummers from Plebeian Grandstand and Deathspell Omega

Love your lesson here. Very helpful to this guitarist learning drums. I once had a band in Santa Fe with jazz drummer Bryan Lewis. He took lessons with Tony Williams when Tony was 16 years old in NYC, in exchange for Bryan giving Tony driving lessons in his truck! Fun story.
