Anika herself graduated university and took a regular job unrelated to music ( I can't remember what it was ). After 5 years she quit, studied to become a musician. and she's here today many years after that fateful choice. So she's proof that it is possible. But it definitely is a really gutsy and difficult thing to do. Just sharing because I hope her story gives you some perspective. Cheers Fio :)

@@cknewhouse4912 i agree. BUT its somewhat about hwo much there is a difference between playign drums and playing music. Yes, this is a show off piece, shes incredibly good... but "so what?". I wouldnt hire a drummer based on gymnastics. I'd hire them on tone, touch and ability to fit the piece. Gymnastic players are ten a penny. Great song players are rare - fortunately i KNOW she's both!!

I have also really enjoyed this performance for days! However, I wonder about the hi-hat hits in the "chorus", they sound a bit off-sync, like reverse backbeat if you know what I mean? Or is that on purpose? On the album they sound more on-point, straight on so to speak.

Definitely a groove drummer girl. Love the way she inserted the different time signature variations. Have practiced her previous YT ideas of combining varying hi hat rhythms while playing backbeats 2 and 4. Thanks for posting!!!

I have said this before on another video of hers, I've never seen another drummer holding the right stick like that, with the thumb at the top. It's normally at the side. It doesn't seem to affect her though, she is brilliant. Female drummers have come such a long way from the early 60's, I'm thinking The Honeycombs here. Shudders! But with the likes of Senri and Anika they're the equal of the men.

The recordings of the cymbals are verry soft. The hihat sounds good. But i dont like the recording of the cymbals. Would it have sound better iff the recording engineer used the fase-switch-button? No hard feelings. But that part just does not sound nice to me.

i want to learn to play drums so bad but can’t afford a kit or lessons and i live in a townhouse with elderly neighbors on both sides so i’d be too loud. i’ve looked into electric but i still can’t afford it :( my dad played drums until he became paralyzed and he just passed a year and a half ago. i’d really like to learn so i could have that part of him with me. maybe one day...

She's just super, an excellent watch. Not sure if it's something on my end, but I have watched numerous other videos just now and no issues, but I sure wish they would have mixed her hi-hat and ride better, as they were not nearly loud enough in the mix to here all of the nuances that she was playing. I would have loved to here those intricate patterns that I could only "see". Otherwise, it was awesome!

Ok Anika is an amazing drummess. I noticed on the Meinl video they focused on how attractive she is. With drumeo its raw footage. So you get weird faces and strange movements. I dont know where I'm going with this...Meinl has great video editing...and amazing cymbals.
