I've never used my baton in my 7 years on patrol. I do prefer OC spray in the open air (no bystanders or heavy wind), because it blinds/disorients the suspect before going hands on. The baton is a nice tool for keeping people away. I've been at the receiving end during training, it's a nice incentive to go away..

I carry one for self defense. a APS 26'. Figured it was smarter less lethal than a knife, an safer to my neighborhood kids than a firearm. LOTS of kids around here so I thought long and hard about what to do. Take my chances with the baton I guess. At least when around the home. I have practiced/trained opening/swinging it at non head targets. My only gripe is they have NOTHING without buying an accessory to keep someone from yanking it from you. That makes no sense to me. They make wrist strap end pieces but ill prolly just droll holes an put my own paracord on it

That nextorch baton looks very much like it has been made by the same people as Bonowi batons. The shaft and closure button look the same as the 24” one I was issued, just a different grip. Even sounds the same when deployed. All I can say about it is that it is a big step up from my old 21” friction lock baton. A lot heavier (in a good way) and a lot more striking force deliverable.
@heyoldtime8969

I have an ASP baton that I bought in 2000. I carry it for personal protection. The locking mechanism is just friction fit and there is a spring retention device in the cap that holds it closed. I prefer that over all that you have shown. No maintenance is required and no lubrication should be used to ensure the friction fit in the open position. The grip material is worn now and the fit in it's scabbard is kinda loose. I am moving to the Stinger Tactical Whip for non lethal defense now. The whip can be wrapped around through the belt loops . Good vid , thanks.

I have a 60cm asp talon infinity, a 21in nex baton, and a 21in bonowi eka camlock. The nex baton and the bonowi camlock are very similar in their design, but with some obvious differences. The bonowi is noticably thicker with a slightly shorter handle. The nex doesn't provide much retention in the collapsed state, but what retention it does have is consistent enough to keep it from just falling completely open. The bonowi however, has some kind of air suction effect that provides great retention when fully collapsed, but once that "air seal" is broken it will completely fall open just from gravity. They're both incredibly durable, high quality batons that blow the asp out of the water in my opinion.

I’ve had the asp for about six months now and it has stood up well. Don’t know how often you use yours in your area. But the only hard use mine has seen is breaking a couple car windows. Never tried using the button side as even with a friction lock I always used the striking tip for that.

I haven't handled asp or monadnock, but I'm pretty sure that as most expandable batons they are weighted towards the handle. My nextorch has a point of balance in the middle, like a stick or non-expandable baton would have. It makes it a formidable striking weapon. The same about bonowi. With batons the placement of the point of balance is crucial. If it's towards the handle, the weight does not transfer into the energy effectively enough. I the striking end is weighted, it strikes with a lot of power, but is far less maneuverable. Having the point of balance in the middle, like with a stick, makes it easy to maneuver and very efficient at striking.

My Monadnock polymer tip is about twice as long as the tip on yours. However, my Monadnock baton is older than yours. I bought it around 1999. I got it when I was assigned to bike patrol and my usual wooden stick would sometimes bang into the spokes on the tires. So I bought the collapsible baton for convenience sake. I think the end was called a “speed tip”. or something like that. I was disappointed with the Monadnock’s inability to impart disabling strikes. It does not have the striking power of my wooden baton. Because it does not impart as much force, you have to strike the person more times. That does not play well on the local news. All the public sees is the number of times you strike the suspect, not how effective the strikes were. Now retired, I still keep my wooden stick in my vehicle in case I need it.

When I started as a police officer in 1996 we carried the gold standard. The PR-24. As others transitioned to the straight baton, I stayed with the PR until I retired in 2020. My experiences showed the straight friction lock batons to be useless for anything other than clearing spider webs. The PR had sufficient weight and it is multi-functional. A great baton.

@@Manu_MMI I believe he was talking about the suspenders sold by 911 gear. But batons are not illegal in Canada, unless they’re spring loaded. It is illegal however to carry a baton concealed, like any weapon here in Canada. It’s also typically illegal for use in self defence. One of the few exceptions is licensed security guards, at least in the province of Ontario. where it can be used for self defence.

Just over 3 years ago I was issued the original version of the ASP Talon when I started at my first department. Thanks to luck and the magic that is TASER my baton lived in its holster on my belt for 60-70 hour wok weeks for the duration of its life. Every other week or so I would pull it out and ensure it was functioning correctly. One fateful shift about 2.5 years into the baton's lifespan I preformed my usual check of the baton and the lock button and that little metal post attached to it fell out of the bottom of the baton leaving the body of the baton locked into place in my hand. I slid the button back into place and was able to close the baton with ease and I found the button was locked into place again. A couple redeployments yielded the same results. I'm not sure if it got bent or broken somehow during a call or what happened to it. I tossed it in the garbage, and because by policy I had to have baton, I went out and got the ASP Talon Infinity in this video. I'm now in a new department where I have actually gottn some use out of the new version. No issues with it yet but I guess time will tell.

None of these videos show just how much force/pain can be achieved with a collapsible baton. A baseball bat has most of the weight in the tip which generates tons of force. The baton has all the weight in the handle with just a small, lightweight tip. So, how much force can really be generated? Is it enough to go through Winter clothing or heavy work pants and stop an attacker? None of these videos show...
@unclefreedom213
@unclefreedom213 3 жыл бұрын
They aren't great in that regards but heavy winter clothing be damned there are only a couple of points that can be struck with the baton at least in law enforcement. Those all suck. If it's not a Peacekeeper, it's just extra wasted weight on your belt.

ESP Ukranian Baton or GTFO with that trash! ASP is a knock off brand.

Actually, quite the opposite is true... ASP is a US company that makes high end US made batons specifically for LEO and Military use, not to mention that they are the company that first introduced the collapsible baton back in the 70's. ESP is a much younger company that makes more value oriented batons and is generally considered a budget brand, based out of the Czech Republic... If you prefer ESP over ASP that's fine, but that doesn't change the fact that they are in fact the budget brand in comparison to ASP which isn't a knockoff brand by any means.

@@awesomeaxel1asp and esp baton is in same level. Actucally, esp baton is more strong and powerful than asp. Durabillity test vid showing that. It means, esp is not a cheap brand. But it made nice product at low price. Better than asp when consider durabillity, price, in terms of every sides. Almost euro countries using esp, america use asp.

Do they make them with the button not on end... i would be using it to get up and down from the ground ..like a short cane which is my intended use... a fukk size cane is Inconvenient and won't be used for walking...just getting to my feet or support on traverse of slopes..... they don't make what I need in medical mobile aidß or hiking walking equipment... my concern is prison.... if I add hiking supplyer stickers would prevent possession and concealed weapon charges for having it in my disc golf bag.... I live in California
