Sophie White I think another reason he did not protest about Alec’s reason is that he can’t argue when it comes to the differences in their lifespans. You can see it in Magnus’ expression at 0:44-0:47 he could make a case for almost anything else but when it comes to that subject only Alec can decide if he wants to take that step and face prospect of him growing old and Magnus staying the same

Things I will never get over in this scene: Alec's face as he stops walking away, you can just tell he's having a civil war in his head about what to do next, I can just imagine the 'Alec stop what are you doing turn around!' as he is fighting himself. Magnus's quick turn around when he realised Alec wasn't leaving, like he was shocked but relived at the same time. Alec's awkwardness as he desperately wanted to kiss him but tried holding back, only to find himself walking closer and leading the kiss. How slowly they pull away from each other. The way they stay as close as possible to each other while talking. The way they quickly remove their hands from one another when they realised Jace walked in. Alec looking completely traumatised for the next 10 seconds like he didn't even know what to think. Damn English GCSE is killing me I analyse everything jfc

I love Alec's little moment at 1:00. His default mode is to give up when it gets tough because he doesn't feel ready for a relationship, but he stops himself from doing that, works up a little courage and goes back to Magnus. A great moment of character progression.
