Why don't more drum educators make practical videos like this. Its almost like the industry doesn't want you to learn anything. This video is great.

I agree, the big name drummers fly through concepts like you are supposed just say OK, that's easy or something.

This helped more than any other video, dvd, book or text I've seen in a long time. Seriously. You cut the shit, didn't try and blow my mind with your god like playing (The end was so tasty though) and it's now 2am in Wales but I'm going to practice anyway. /subscribing

The best explane of Moeller technique! Thank you.

Thanks man,.. The reality is if you switch to the Moeller and Freehand Technique.... At first you will cut your speed in half haha... It's just another technique, nothing groundbreaking.. everything that's played could be played with any technique just as fast or faster,.. but for me it's more relaxed, makes my life easier, and is better in some ways for your wrists and fingers, Plus you get a better tone, if you are looking for an open sustaining type sound

THANK YOU!! You're the first drummer who has explained this to me so that I actually understand it! Not only that but your visual demonstration was straightforward and absent of some of the more technical (gobbledygook) videos I've watched! Hooray! It's 3:21 a.m. and I can't pick up my rubber-tipped sticks to practice (even my neighbors aren't THAT nice!), but I will definitely be practicing later today.

Thanks Chris for sharing this very practical & down-to-earth lesson. Your kit sounds fantastic, especially that snare.

@ Execution Sommaire... For me the Moeller principle is a wrist motion and bounces with no wrist or finger help with the bounces.. To go faster you squeeze with your thumb and index finger plus whip harder with the wrist.. The harder you throw down the faster it bounces. Finger control is a separate thing for me.. No accents just clean singles... The Moeller is designed so that you don't have to fire both contraction and extension muscles for one stroke each. So you do way less work per stroke. From half to 4 times less.. Finger control requires a full motion of both top and bottom finger muscles per stroke.. I suppose you could incorporate both Moeller and fingers together,... I haven't done it myself yet haven't felt the need. I find the bounces after the wrist motion to be sufficient for me... Hmm I just checked out the George Kolias vid you have on your channel.. I see what you are saying.. That's a different animal.. He's using finger control and moving his wrist/elbow to offset the burning hell he feels from the searing pain in his wrist from pyshco blastbeat hell haha.. Not really Moeller per say.. Killer idea... If he was using Moeller it would sound weird his singles have to be even so the fingers are firing... But that can also burn you out so the slight movement of the wrist and arm shifts the load to different muscles sharing the load.. I'd call that super awesome finger control rather than Moeller.. I can see how it sort of looks the same but it's function and sound results are totally different.. Great point though...

Hello Chris, Enjoying your very good, relaxed take on the Moeller system. My teacher was the wonderful Jim Chapin who was a dear friend for many years Thanks to Jim and his teaching , we old cats can still retain our chops. Keep up the good work!! Frank DeVito

That's the most chilled, non-ego driven, yet technically right onto it, drum workshop video ever! Thanks.

Thanks for the video, I'm self taught and been playing for 40 years.I'm no expert, but this moeller thing got me going on the web.Looking to develop more speed,less energy.I appreciate the lack of ego too, If you're trying to better yourself and not spend tons of money for lessons, this helps,easy, not intimidating. Drums sound nice too.

I really like this video. It's a technique that I'm aiming at learning and feel the way you present it is very practical and free of a lot of theory-talk. Love the video angles and laid back feel. Thanks!

Haha "I don't think of it as all this crazy stuff and whip" then you do the exaggerated arm movement. Anyways awesome, helped a lot ! thanks!

Don't you think that working on finger control is necessary to get some higher speeds, especially when you have to execute fast singles on a loose tom ? I always feel that the "super fast moeller guys" actually use their fingers as a basis and just incorpore wrist accents to gain power and endurance (and release tensions, as well)

Nice lesson. Using the moeller to be relaxed is what it's all about. Thank you

Hi, Evans Ec2s frosted on top clear g1's on the bottom.. and yes typically my top head is a bit lower than the bottom making sure that it's not a weird half step out..

Very helpful demonstration of the moeller technique. I have seen many different vids explaining the same technique, but yours is the only that I find useful in a practical way. Also like your sense of humor :) Thanks for sharing.

@superatech9 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris. Thanks for your video. You really take the time to make it simpler for us mere mortals. I'm having trouble with the "triple bounce" (that's what I'm starting with). It sounds like a "gallop" instead of an even consistent sticking. It sounds like "123456.123456.123456. Will that improve with time or does it sound like I'm doing something wrong? Thanks for your help.
@Bestdrumlessonz9 жыл бұрын
Hard to say... you want it to be a steady stream with no pausing.. It might just be the speed you are choosing to play at. Make sure each hand does even triplets by themselves first then put them together. I do teach skype lessons if you are interested. chrisperra@aol.com
@superatech9 жыл бұрын
Chris Perra Thanks, I think I get what you're saying. I suspect I may have to slow my bounce down to get rid of the "gallop" effect, but I do not have the control yet. Thank you for replying. I will be watching and re-watching your video to see if I can straighten my technique out. Too self-conscious to do the skype thing, but thanks for the offer. Annie

Thanks for this great lesson...I am trying to figure out which of the hand techniques I should start with...there is so much stuff on the site and it is confusing which is the best to begin with. I also really liked the drums in this lesson. They sound really good.....what are they?
@Bestdrumlessonz7 жыл бұрын
Start with the freehand/basic singles..get that happening first and go from there. The drums are TRS Custom Drums.
