They probably don't copy what you show them because we are taught to never copy - artists integrity yada yada and being original being the main reasons. The only time we will copy off a reference is if we are doing realism and the reference is a photograph

@Dream most artists won't be cool with it, they more often than not would rather use it as an influence on their design than just copying. If artists are seen to copy art even with credit they themselves lose credibility within the industry

Plus with drawing when you need something perfect (e.g cogs, perfect circles for example) it is SO hard to freehand and make it perfect. Freehanding tattoos are also hard cuz it's not a piece of paper you can erase your work on. So it is a specialty. To get it right first go first version on the skin.

Lol... having it exactly the way I want would be rather boring, I think. Sure, I want the general idea to be intact. But at the same time, they’re tattoo ARTISTS. I think it’d be best to find an artists whose style aligns well with yours, let em know what you want, and give them some creative liberties.

Theres 6 tattooist in the shop I go to and they're all perfectly fine with freehand and the harder and more complicated tattoo you chose the happier they are. They dont turn away or get worried from any tattoo

Not really..... It was a freehand challenge. The flowers were simple but applied really well and pleaaing to the eye. Although the girl had some issues she was applied correctly, was beautiful to look at, and was overwhelmingly well porportioned for no reference. Danes wolf although applied correctly had some serious issues. It was porportioned well and honestly it looked more like a rat than a wolf. He went a little whacky but it didn't work. Had he gone more new school with it I think Old Town would Have gone home for their overly simplistic design. But, be honest. None of these pieces that stsyed were "jacked." They looked pleasing and were applied correctly.

They talked shit to Artistic Skin design about not tattooing with confidence. Artistic's design was the boldest tattoo of the challenge, the other's were so safe and boring. Basilica's was technically good, but just so safe.

I'm bummed Dane and April were sent home i thought they were cute. What is crazy though is the judges immediately dismissing Old Town's flower. It was very clean but very simple. From what i remember it had only one solid colour per area, like what you would do in a colouring book. Anyways, I'm hopping on the Tommy/Marvin bandwagon. Great season

Goatvarro Yea, the flowers were pretty simple but they were beautiful. Solid application and good choice of color palette. In the end, it came down to what was most visibly appealing and that wolf had some,serious issues. Had it been proportioned correctly or been super new school I think they would have stayed and Old Town would have gone.

Goatvarro I personally like golden skulls work but that's just because I have that style on my body but the application itself was probably one of the weaker ones although still sound. I still think that parricular design was a little boring but... It happens especially in competition. I'm getting more excited as it starts getring down to the wire on this show. I feel they turn out better pieces when the pressure is really on and they get nore chances for their own styles to,shine. Tonight should be an interesting episode to say the least.

The worst members of the alliance were pretty much telling him what to tattoo, like they saw what he was drawing and thought that was terrible.

I disagree. The wolf was applied beautifully but was the only one that I didn't think was visually appealing or proportioned correctly. It looks more like a rat than a wolf. Since they were freehanding it would have been smarter to do,somthing more safe and solid than what he did. In the end all the tattoos were technically sound and it came down to what the judges thought was more appealing. Had he gone super New school and whacky with it, it probably would have been better. Everyone trying to help him,screwed him up. It was obvious he couldn't get into his zone because he was trying to incorporate what everyone else wanted. Also, I like seeing veterans just because it gives strong arrists another chance and people get their favorites back. Althouh SOME of the chances are ridiculous like bringing back finalists who have an obvious advantage over anyone new. I think had they done an all veteran,shop season it would have been better.

Mostly sharpies, medical pens (like the ones plastic surgeons use as guides for where to cut), Faber Castell brush pens, ballpoint pens, and whatever pens they prefer to use. It's mostly Sharpies, though.
